9/17 Wind Tunnel Session at the University of Washington at a low price and future session info
Quote | Reply
Good morning,

I hope this email finds you well and you're enjoying the last few weeks of our road season. During the past few months I have been working with the University of Washington and Len Brownlie (of Aerosports Research) to setup two wind tunnel sessions a year in an effort to provide folks from the Pacific Northwest with a local option at nearly half the cost of sessions at other low-speed wind tunnels. A group of five riders took part in our first session in March and we had the following results:

(Note: If the following table doesn't come through well the best result was 238 seconds of savings in a 40k TT. Average improvement was ~60 seconds.)

Cyclist

Max. Drag Reduction from Baseline (g)

Est. Time Savings in 40K

Rider 1
Seat height increased from 79 to 65 mm

Rider 2

Rider 3

Rider 4
Raise seat 0.5 cm; tilt head back; drop bars 17 degrees; Eki shrug

Rider 5

92

43

Here are the details:

- Session Cost: $600 per/rider (with a max of 5 riders per session)

- What's included: ~2 hours of tunnel time, professional consulting, and a testing program desiged around your goals (e.g. equipment or position changes, various wind angles, etc.). You'll also receive a summary report and DVD of your session. (In full transparancy it took a while for our riders to receive their summary and DVD during our last session and I've taken steps to make sure this doesn't happen in the future.)

- Tunnel: University of Washington's Low-Speed Wind Tunnel in Seattle

- Consulting: Len Brownlie of Aerosports Research

Dates:

9/17/2011 - Next session, which currently has four (4) openings. I need to judge interest in the next few days to hold this slot.

3/2012 - Working on securing a date, but am looking to judge interest.

9/2012 - Working on securing a date, but am looking to judge interest.

What do I need to do to secure a slot?

- Email or call me at 971-404-5665
- Send a $50 deposit to hoeferland@comcast.net via Paypal (personal funds)

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please let me know.

Bummer on the timing - huge, huge bummer for me.
I just made a professional move that will keep me from getting in on this - i'll be in touch if this changes for me and I can get in.

The "Eki shrug" refers to the way Ekimov shrugged his shoulders in his TT position.
