swimsuit for tall women
Hey Ladies, I've been browsing/searching the forum for related posts about swimsuit sizing for us tall girls (5'10+) and have come up blank. I'm in the market to buy a new suit, but I'd like some opinions about what has worked best for those of you that are long in the torso, and legs, and arms ;)
My current suit is a tyr diamond back from 6yrs ago when I was 13- needless to say it is more than a little threadbare! Personally, I really like tyr's diamondback style! I am 5'11ish and 145-150lbs if that helps any!

Thanks!!

Have you looked at the Speedo Endurance Swimsuits? I've had very good luck with Speedo and am over 5'10".

I'm 5'10 and anywhere from 130-150 depending on the time of year/season. I've been wearing Splish suits. I prefer the thin strap because of my chest, but a lot of people I know like the super thin strap. Especially the taller gals. I wear a 30 (fits great when i'm on the low end of my weight spectrum, and I squeeze into it when I'm not. By the end of the season they are a little stretched out, so they fit great at the beginning of the next season when I'm just starting to drop weight.

Thanks- I've never seen splish suits around here, but I'm guessing that you just order them online? I was thinking that my size would maybe be a 34? I wear around an 8 in normal clothes, and my chest is on the bigger side haha about 36B. The torso doesn't feel like it is stretching too much?

yeah, you have to order them online. Depending on how tight you like your suit to fit. The more I swim the tighter I prefer the fit. 34 would probably fit you okay, 32 would fit very snug. I have a relatively long torso too, and my chest is easily a 36C

I'll look into it then! Designing my own suit is a plus too!! Do they ship worldwide? I'm in Canada.

they shipped to me in ontario no problem - don't think i even got charged import fees.

i had to exchange for size (be aware that the PBT suits don't stretch much at all), and that went smoothly as well. of course, they ship via post, so you'll have to wait for the lockout to end.

cheers!

The poly PTB blend is $10 more, based on your experience would you go with that or just stick with the 88%poly- 12%spandex? What about the "shimmery" suits? any experience with those?

I've started wearing the PBT suits this year, they last much longer (or maybe I haven't swam that much), but they are a struggle to get on (mostly to get over the hips). Order a size up. I wear a 32 in those. I like the PBT ones and think they are worth the extra $10. It's material similar to Speedo Endurance and TYR Durafast

I've never tried a shimmery one.

Poly suits rock, they last forever. I was wearing 2 suits, one poly and one lycra starting in late 2009, lycra suit is long gone, but still wear the poly suit, and bought a poly 2 piece to wear under to replace the lycra one. Poly suits have come along way since the late 90's (wore in college, lots of chafing back then).

i only have the PBT suit; bought it to replace a speedo endurance suit that had the lining start to dissolve after almost two years of constant use (the poly outer layer is still fine and i still use it occasionally).

i paid the extra to get a suit that will last for ages, but i agree that they can be tough to get on (especially while sweaty - i usually run before i swim) and that you should size up. i needed 1 size larger than my speedo endurance suit size.

cheers!

Dolphin uglies! They work on long torsos and are much cheaper than the splish suits. I've tried splish a few times and they don't fit my long torso. Too low cut up top, too high cut down below.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Sugoi was having a factory outlet sale in Burnaby today, and I scored 2 swimsuits among other things! They were both $20, and one is a poly suit. They both fit very well in the torso and don't feel stretched or too short.
