Weight

Some might argue Michael Raelert is one of the best long distance athletes in the world, sans the IM distance (and who knows what he will do when he steps up). Engine to weight ratios are often thought to be imperative in long distance racing.

What I find surprising is, that on his website, Raelert has his height as 6'2" at 163 lbs. Now yes, that is a thin guy. But that isn't "looks like you haven't eaten in two weeks" thin. Is this perhaps his "non racing" weight? Or does Michael not hold a low weight to be as important as some slowtwitchers might?

That's pretty damn thin, especially for a triathlete. Even on my xc team in college, the guys who were 6'1" - 6'2" were rarely lighter than low 150's - and they had zero upper body muscle - no shoulders, no pecks, etc and would drown if they didn't have a water running belt on.

I think that's a pretty standard weight for elite triathletes. Frodeno is like 6'3" and 165.

At anyrate, Solinksy pretty effectively dispelled the myth that bigger guys can't run fast - he's 6 ft even and 160 (though conversely Teg is 6'1" and just under 150 I think)

That *is* a low weight. Very close to rappstar height/weight ratio.

The idea that losing weight can help you get faster is directed at 200lbs age groupers. Not 163 pound six footers badly in need of a sammage.

Well guess I will still be a fat a$$ even if I make my weight goal for my A race.

By Ironman Wisconsin I am trying to get down to 180 lbs. and I am 6 foot.

2 years ago I was 230 lbs. when I started racing and when I got out of college I was 280 pounds.

Right now I am 195, back in December I was around 210-215ish.

running feels better don't it?
I remember at 200 my knees would hurt all the time.

now at 172 I almost feel like I can run!

Perhaps I was thinking too much along the lines of cycling.

A. Schleck is 6'1 and 150 lbs. I think that might be a bit generous on the weight.

But then fabian is 6'1" 180!

But then fabian isn't hanging around with Schleck on mount Ventoux

Yup, losing weight helps running A LOT.
