Are you running a zipp Sub-9 on your bike? Any issues with it? Any know if the Zipp Sub-9 is 'compatible' with the Trek Speed Concept?

Thanks

No problems. Ultimate wheel for the ultimate bike. My only gripe is rim width renders the stock wheels basically useless due to my reluctance to fiddle with the brakes.

Oh man, the brakes on these things are driving me nuts to the point I wonder if the bike is even worth it. They really should have done a better job with adjustability somehow.

Carl,

I have seen almost no SC7's in bike shops within California and none in races I have been in for the past few months. All the bike shops I have talked to say the same thing: "they are just not available right now, maybe in a month or two".

What gives.....? Was there some kind of production hangup or something? I have been waiting on mine for about two months and it will be another two months. Throw me a bone brother........I'm dying to ride my new bike. Tell me the Trek has dispatched a cargo plane and is airdropping SC7's all over the country as we speak?

I saw 2 SC 7's yesterday at the LBS and they both had an inline adjuster for the rear brake. They are going to order one for me for my 9.9.

Carl,

Is there any problem running a PT rear wheel as far as brake adjustability goes? How about Zipp 808 clincher?

Thx in advance.

I don't think there are many wheels that cause problems.

I run a DT Swiss RR 1.2 and a PX 50mm - both with a PT with no problems.

The team at Trek and my dealer the Cycling Hub has been great in making my bike together... I ordered a SpeedConcept 7.0, yet when the dealer got it, UPS had cracked the Fork at the crown. SO trek was able to rush out a new frame yet the 7.5 frame... So here is my new ride...

Did a fitting with John and AAA Tri Camp last night with Power and Cadence.

My first race with it is next week with MiamiMan.

PT not at issue, brake track is where concerns usually lie. We're not aware of any rear brake issues related to any available rims. And now that I've said that I expect some 35mm wide beast will show up tomorrow...

Hi Carl,

Another sizing question for you. When figuring out what to order using the chart for pad stack, pad reach etc...

I ride steep (80+). I am lined up to order an XS to get my bars low enough. So, I am wondering how the pad reach dimensions work? The range is 540 to 585. My current reach is 570 on my cervelo P3 (with a 20mm seat tip offset ahead of the BB).

Is the 540-585mm range for any seat position? Or is it for a middle seat position? In other words, can I put the seat ahead of the BB and still get a 570ish reach?

Thanks,

Hmmm...540-585 represents the pad stack range, not pad reach, for the lowest stems on the XS frame. If that is a pad reach number it seems really huge, too...570 from the BB would put the center of your pads ~20mm beyond the front wheel axle on an XS, and your shifters out near the leading edge of your tire.

If you followed the measuring convention for the SC that we suggest here (see Step 1, on page 4 in particular), do you still get 570mm?

Horrible Rube Goldberg solution. Would be nice to have a more artistic solution--

Problem -- for training in twilight/dark, hard to mount a taillight. I tried mounting under the saddle, and that worked but people
told me the light was obscured.

Solution: after many failed attempts, went to Lowes and picked up 1 inch zip anchors and some zip ties. Mounted two
anchors on the cateye reflector. Removed the rack mount adapter from the Cateye TL-1100. Addes two zip
anchors to the light. Zipped the anchors together. It works, but looks messy with the zips. Since cateye makes
both the reflector for the SC and the TL-1100, it would be nice to have a better solution.

Sorry, Monday....

470mm on current bike.
range is 385-485 in chart for pad reach.

Same question.

Ah, that makes more sense.

470 not hard to hit then...your pad holders end up in front of the extension tower mounts vs behind in order to get out there.

Seat position not a factor. Easy to get to 20mm ahead of the BB at any height...particularly with the 35mm offset head flipped forward.

Di2 question. How do you switch from gear shifting mode, to battery level mode?

sure there is an easy answer, but nothing in the paperwork, and nothing on the web.

PM if necessary

Turns out that's hidden in the instructions for the shifters, not the wiring harness. I found it at the very end of the instructions for the ST-7971 TT levers (though not in the SW-7971 satellite instructions)...

Press any shifter button for more than 0.5sec and the indicator light on the SM-EW79 box lights up with your battery level code.

25% solid red for 2sec

Been staring at my reflector bracket and pictures of the TL-1100 and I think I can see what you're saying. Looks like the light comes with, among other things, a seatpost clamp setup which has a band around the post and an indexed bracket which bolts to it and in turn accepts the light itself. No doubt we've got different diameters at work here, but is it possible that the indexed bracket could bolt directly to the SC band clamp after you remove the latter's indexed bracket? Mocked it up below with a couple reflector bands and the clamp off of a different taillight I had in my shop. Might need a small rubber washer in between to give you something to clamp down on for fixity at your angle of choice, and a longer bolt plus nut, but...it's a thought.

that one is a hot commodity just like the 7 series bikes. It leaves the warehouse as soon as it comes in. have your shop try for another week and if that doesn't work give me a pm .

Carl/All

So I just ordered a new Project one 9.9 Module in size medium to build up with a Di2 kit. I am switching back to Trek from Orbea after about 5 years. I switched to Orbea due to the lack of a good Tri bike offering from Trek.I had hoped to put my 1 month old set of Zipp 808 firecrest clinchers on the speed concept only to find out that they don't fit!!!! With all the R&D that Trek did I was surprised that they hadn't planned for this seeing how Zipp is the weapon of choice as far as tri wheels go. The Front and rear brakes only spread to accomidate a max 25mm. I am sure I can shave the pads down to accommodated it but has anyone else run into this problem? If so have you tried maybe thinner washers or thinner pad housing? Trek states that a rear brake retro fit will be available soon but that the front fork is limited due to its initial design and should be fixed on the second generation. Could it be possible that my speed concept with estimated delivery of 6 weeks have this retro fit already? I was hoping that maybe the Carl could shed some light on this. Thanks guys!

For everyone who thought I couldn't do it
For everyone who thought I shouldn't do it
For everyone who said I didn't have it in me
See you at the finish line.

Built up a 9.8 frame with Dura Ace 7900 components and Zipp 606 last week.

Having clocked about 300km over 5 days on it thus far, my average time split over a tested 35km course had improved about 4-5% as compared to my E114. Hopefully its the aerodynamics and not just the psychological factor of riding a new bike...
