Speedplay are an effing scam. Sure the pedals are light, but the cleats weigh 120 grams a pair. It's a joke.

from the write up on them:

With all the changes, each pedal weighs in at 65g. A set is 130g. The cleats are 44.25g (88g per pair) if you use the setup for three-hole mounting, a mere 27.5g (55g per pair) if you use the four-hole mounting. At worst, you're looking at 109.25g of pedal and cleat per foot

I'll still stick with the regular speedplays myself though - I've got a lot more grams to lose of my body than that ;-)

I've been using speedplays for 11 years. Love the pedal regardless of the weight. I have the stainless version on my tri bike and the cromoly on my road bike. The weight is unimportant. They are all reasonably light (in fact, the ti-spindles have a weight restriction on them and I avoid anything that is lightweight enough to have a weight limit!) but the float and ease of entry is what appeals to me. $1000 for pedals is silly but there are people paying that for aero bars when a set of vision clip ons and base bar or profile T2+ will do the same job :)

Haha that is very true. It's just I've never seen any other pedals come close to the price? I think that's what threw me off.

The Nanos have custom carbon-reinforced plastic cleats that are special. They only come with the nanos, but work with any Zero pedal. Hence the exceptionally light weight, which in this case applies to the pedals and the cleats. Both of which are special Nano-versions, though compatible in all cases with other Zero parts.
