I am fully in tune with my body and am in full blown out self destruct mode. Fortunatly for me I am like Bruce Willis in the movie where he is a Penn state security guard "UNBREAKABLE". Just did my second run and lets see where it places me going to log right now. Keep in mind Dev i have worked this base non stop since last 100/100 and have done some 60 mile weeks already. So with the proper rest between run's and smart pacing I should be good to go with a few 70 mile weeks.

I got a plan jim. One faster 10k or lil better in morning and 4 mile and change recovery run in evening for three weeks. This morning run I was kicking ass for me, first 5k was around 20 min. 48 secs and second 3.34 miles was done in 19 minutes 22 seconds. I broke 40 minute 10k barrier albiet it was on dreadmill but... Recovery run felt great in cold weather. Ran past my fav tomato pie place ( Delorenzo's) and saw all the neighb's fattening themselves up. Having fun !!

My goal is simple. Run. Not worry about standings, speed, etc. Just go for a run, 100 times in 100 days.

So I was really excited about starting this challenge after a long layoff due to the onset of some sedentary habits. I went for my first run after getting my left knee hyperextended in a freak accident and it felt alright - sore, but no more pain than standing still before the run. After that morning run, I went to see the doctor and was diagnosed with a medial meniscus tear. I'm waiting for a MRI to confirm (it could just be a bad strain) but what I'm wondering is if I can keep running. Walking doesn't really hurt, just straightening my leg completely and climbing up and down stairs.

I don't want to get "caught up in the challenge" but I was really enjoying the idea of going for maybe the silver or bronze with some strategic rest days. I can't bike because the 90 degree angle of the pedal stroke mimics the pain of climbing stairs.

Anyone have a similar knee issue and successfully run through it?

All opinions are appreciated.

Think pizza .... undercooked and without cheese. Where I live it's apparently a local specialty, but really I think that people around here were just bad at making pizza and said "F*ck it, we'll stick with the part that even morons like us can't screw up. Dough and sauce."

Does looking after my kids for a half hour count as a run? It should be worth double!

You and Cannonball are out of the blocks strong! I'm going for the slow and steady approach....starting with S L O W...but always steady:)

New bike has been up and down. Having an issue fitting the FD to the 54T rotor Q-ring so I had to send away for an extension bracket. Getting a fit done tomorrow, but I will not post pics until it is totally finished. It looks fricking awesome. Too bad I do not have the leg power to actually rock the 54-42, but at least I will look good.

As for the bananas foster it is a pretty basic recipe. Keep it real simple. Melt some butter in a saute pan with brown sugar and cinnamon, cook until sugar dissolves, add bananas. Cook until they are soft and lightly browned, add some dark rum/ and or banana liqueur, flambee and serve over ice cream. Specific measurements are not my strong suit.

The wrestling is going good I got my 5 yo old doing it now also. Though he his center of gravity is low and he has the balance of a Mtn. goat his attention and focus to a cordinated sport is not there. Funny enough at home if there is a problem with something he wont let anyone help him till he gets it on his own .Most of the time. As for my big grapevine champ 7 yo there is nobody his size there to wrestle in robbinsville. and he is intimidated in the fact he might hurt someone so he takes it to easy during wrestling practice. he probably has 6 inches and 15 pounds on every kid out there. Actually the banana fosters is for him. I have been working on getting faster and have been basically doing this same work out all year so I should be able o keep up doing it a 2 or three weeks then deflate back down and throw some nice slow long runs in. Todays 6.35 run was done at a medium tempo and recovery evening run will be just that basically 9 min per mile slow paced run. Hope you and your family are doing well also. Captain Canada thanks for the recipe i will try your way then try with a Jack Daniels your recipe jarred my memory of a banana flambe I used to make for the wife and i before children. They make a chain guide so you do not drop the chain with the rotor Q rings when going big ring to small ring. Not that we ever leave the big ring but you got some mountains around there it might be worth looking into. If i do not pepper mine it sometimes derails. I have the compact k force lights with the rotor Q rings on my steed.

When you come up I will treat you to some . It is basically a pizza very thin crust with all fresh ingrediants on it. My place here I can honestly say makes the best in the USA. They are even Zagat rated.

OK, day 2 came and went and I took my first "rest day". This challenge is killing me. I'm on 50/100 pace right now so I have to live vcariously through all the stud already up at 4-5 runs!

Can you tell me how to tell my wife I need to get out on Chistmas eve and christmas day to get double runs in each day? I think she knows I need at least one run each day.

You do know that its the 100run/100day challenge, right? It's not the 250run/100day challenge!!!

Nice work! Are you running NJM or LBH this year? I'm doing NYC half and LBH.

Dev, get out and do your run! IM France will haunt you if you don't do the work now... For me, I did an easy day...swim, core, easy bike and run. Nothing hard or fast, mostly drills in the pool, some strides on the run, but otherwise un remarkable.

Same here. But for me it was a real rest day since I was a bit sick with a cold. no point to waste energy running or whatever.

Given the state of mankind's descent into general lethargy, I would hardly qualify running as a waste of energy :) But if you're still feeling guilty about wasting energy running, I suggest that you buy a treadmill, convert the drive motor to an electric generator, and grind out some hard-earned joules. That way, no one can legitimately argue with your level of productivity.

All the talk about not overdoing it makes me wonder ... I'm just doing my daily each way commute and finding myself near the top of this challenge at the moment (I'll slip back at the weekend because I don' t run, only swim at the weekend) but the talk is sensitizing me to the fact that perhaps I'm exposing myself to a risk that I'm unaware of.

Since I've never suffered a running injury (crosses fingers, touches wood, and sings a short mildly risqué sea shanty), I'm worried if my ignorance is making me too complacent about the risks. I've been focussing almost exclusively on building frequency over the last couple of years since I started running regularly. And with rare exceptions, I'm still doing one of my variations on the same 5.5km-ish commute between home and office. As my frequency approaches doing that consistently each way every single day, I find myself more often contemplating the need to focus elsewhere ... on upping the distance, the speed or trying another sport.

Where do folks find the greatest risks of running injury? Is it during competitions (I've only entered one race), or training? Is it with greater speed or distance, or is it usually due to "other" distractions ... for example: I ran into a chain strung across the entrance to a field at the end of road in the dark a couple of weeks ago ... it lifted me 3ft in the air and dumped me back on my feet ... winded me, but a slow jog home eased the lungs and aside from some small bruising around the rib cage I suffered no serious side effects. The cause was simply not paying attention. I run that route every day, so I know the chain is there! But in the dark, thinking of the words to my next sea shanty ...

Steve

My plan is the same - RUN. Except I plan to run 70-80 out of the next 100 days. Well maybe 90 is things go well and it isn't too cold. All of this base will hopefully set me up for a strong run at the Clinton 30-miler in March and a 50 miler in the spring (when I find one that works with my schedule)>
