that depends on age and structure of breast tissue before surgery and size differential.
So older women who have drooped a bit are more likely to need this and YES sensation is then gone.

I get to see women 20+ years after their implants and the vast majority regret the decision and want them out.

Having breast fed 2 kids, mine went from B to DD back to B - or slightly less and kind of deflated versions of their formal selves. So I contemplated doing something but the risks scare me, the idea of foreign substance scares me so I prefer my Victoria's Secret explants - removable for races :-p

I had one other question- moving the nipples. I have heard some people having this done so the placement on the breast looks more natural after gravity begins to take effect. Any experiences with this? I heard a couple of things through the grapevine- loss of sensation, etc. Is this a normal part of the procedure or is it optional?

My nipples were raised as part of my breast reduction about 10 years ago. After losing around 40 lbs, my sad sacks were at risk of hitting me in the face and I didn't like tucking them into my belt line while running!

Immediately post-surgery, there was numbness. I am happy to report that everything has been back to normal for years.

I've heard of the belly button thing before. Supposedly the benefits are because the scar is easier to hide. I've watched a decent amount of educational videos online and I must say that seeing the scar under the boobs is a turnoff for me. I like them natural!

actually the most common for 'no scar' is going through the armpit, I am not sure about the advantages about the bellybutton insertion but maybe it's due to how the muscles work and maybe it makes the recovery faster or something... I remember the person that got it on the show was a model so maybe she didn't want to risk absolutely any scar that could be seen (and in some shots you do have the armpit fairly close up) .

You would be surprised but some women will go for the 'implanted' look intentionally (rippled edges, round look, etc.) and in that case I guess it makes sense to go either from below the breast (big scar) or through the nipple (smaller scar) vs the no-scar methods. If everybody was after the 'natural' look I am sure there wouldn't be that many different procedures/sizes available...

Remember that a high-quality, supportive sports bra should be a required part of your race attire if you do this procedure.

I am concerned about the flapdangle of my breasts from decades of running and more weight loss (history of DD, D, C, now B-ish).

Or I could just consider it as a nifty, new, aero place to store gels under my breasts. Yeah, right.

Again, speaking from experience, I can say that the scars fade and there is virtually no evidence that my nipples were removed and stitched someplace else.

Remember that somebody you care about may have to look at you with an icky case of road rash. Those cause scars and they're not very attractive.

Oh, with the good procedures and docs, I know that sometimes there isn't much scar. I'm talking about the big ones for girls that got them done on the cheap to maybe enhance their "acting" career.

Last year I had a conversation with a friend about fake boobs in which I confessed mine were not 'real' he didn't believe me. He is a doctor so I figured what the heck, I'll show him the scars... You could barely see them. They are in the 'crease' so they are well hidden and over time fade a lot since they are out of the sun etc.

They can do them from teh belly button, under the armpit, cut the bottom of the nipple etc...

I'm sure the subjects of your 'educational' videos don't really care if they look natural or not and are addicted to tanning salons so the scars don't fade.

are you sure that's the only reason? Somebody I used to know (who does not suntan) had chest surgery and even many years later her scar was still very prominent in color and appearance: I think that scar appearance is mostly a function of somebody's genetic luck ('mediterranean' skin scars a lot less/differently than 'nordic' skin) and surgeon competency, glad it worked out for you!

LOL considering my scars go from under the armpit to the inside under the cup, then seem up to the nipple and around (though much of that is invisible now), you'll just have to call me Frankentitty.

Good thing I'm happier with my smaller size than concerned about my sex appeal.

To be honest, I really don't have a problem with scars in that area as long as they are pretty faint. Normally, I'm not a fan of enhanced breasts. That's a general statement though and if I meet some really awesome woman with some enhancemetns, then it probably won't be a dealbreaker for me.

Also, I kinda dig chicks with scars (in other places).

Hi, I see plenty of athletes with fake boobs. I think they are great. I, like Sabre, had to go the other way. But I have considered having implants to give them some more shape (after taking up tri's I lost weight and they are not as round as I would like).

After I had my reduction tho I discovered a website that would be great for you to check out.

www.breasthealthonline.com

They can answer tons of questions about how quickly you can start working out.
After my surgery it was 8 weeks before I had full upper body range of motion and could push anything greater than 50 lbs. I was told with implants you can get right up and get going much quicker.

Good luck.

I've asked questions about breast implants too. A tri friend of mine who has them says they haven't affected her training at all. She had them done before she started triathlon though. Another woman I know had them done and said it was really hard to get used to running with them. A plastic surgeon I know claimed that they actually improve your swim time because they make you more bouyant!!

Ultimately I always opt not to do it. I think I sort of like my little boobs and my husband says he does too!

That said, I am all for plastic surgery if you want to do it. To me it's like dying your hair or putting on makeup...just more expensive and initially more painful!

If you decide to do it, you definitely have to post and let us know how it goes

Here's my story: I'm an age grouper who didn't get into triathlons until mid 30s and after I got implants. I was a competitive swimmer so I was an A cup. I decided to go with with a small C cup saline implants. The implants were placed underneath the chest muscle. I think because it looks more natural than under the skin. During recovery, I did experience very painful muscle contractions that lasted a few days. That was the worst part of the recovery. The biggest adjustment was having to wear a bra all the time including at night. So I went from never having to wear a bra to wearing a bra all the time. I was not very compliant. Because of this and having a rare complication, my implants started to drop. The complication I had was that my body did not form normal scar tissue in the pocket to hold up the implant. After the birth of my daughter and breastfeeding, I decided to correct the problem. I was told that the solution is to go with a larger implant. I chose a slightly bigger size but ended up with full Cs. Something about the implant size wasn't available. The second time around I wore a bra all the time. Much to my husband's disappointment. Then I get into triathlons. I have to wear a sports bra even under tri tops that have a shelf bra. I have trouble fitting into trisuits because of my chest size. I definitely feel that my chest gets attention at triathlons. If I could do it all over again (which I wont unless I have other complications), I would go with smaller implants. I really enjoyed my first implants. They were a vast improvement over being an A but were not the first thing that you noticed. I think that the best implants are those that make you look natural. I hope that this is helpful to you. Good luck with whatever decision that you make.

With being an endurance athlete, I've always considered myself blessed to have smaller boobs. And, I'll never have to deal with boob-related back problems later in life. And, I can get away with much cheaper bras and sports bras than my sisters. hehe

I am with you Texas...same story except I had boobs - After 2 kids the girls just didnt sit the same, so I had to get them lifted and implants to make fuller around the top again ..it was like getting a lift kit and new tires for a truck. I was not allowed to run for 5 weeks - and havent had a problem since.. I have minimal scaring, and they are more sensitive than ever :) The worst thing you can do is not take care of yourself right after.
Wear a good bra - dont let the girls bounce all around and you will be good. There are pros and cons with everything - do what makes YOU happy

Based on personal experience (wife, she loves em), i recommend you go for a consult just to get you comfortable discussing it with strangers. Then after you get the first opinion, go get 5 others. If you want to go for it, do a reality check. Don't go for the female Doctor because she's a she, and don't go for the Doc with the best boobed nurse because he did hers etc. I recommend you go for the one that has done the surgery the most. Travel if necessary. I think experience with all of the variables is a plus. I also recommend you show up to a few tri's ask the ladies who have had the surgery what they think. Ask for recommendations. I'm sure they will be happy to tell you all about it. It's a major surgery with all the risk you should expect to have. Another risk; my neighbor got in a car wreck and the shock caused her to get capsular contracture in one. The replacement was as much $ as the first job. I wouldn't be surprised if a second job is needed sometime later, so go ahead and double or triple the price as the real cost of ownership. Enjoy, pictures or it didn't happen.

It is your choice but be aware of the risks. Also, almost all cosmetic surgeons (the honest surgeons) will tell you that breast implants do NOT last forever. At some point down the road (average was 7-10 years), they will require some maintenance and a second surgery. So you might want to consider that too.

Don't get them so big that they look too obvious. In triathlon and running, the girls who have breast implants are so easy to pick out. Breast tissue is primarily all fat, so skinny girls generally have smaller breasts. If a girl has super skinny legs, skinny hips, and cut ripped shoulders and arms but has a large chest that looks like 2 half grape fruits pinned onto them - it is a dead give away that they have implants.

They are there for your enjoyment.

Not to argue with that statement in general, but as a breastfeeding mother of an almost 2 month old, they aren't about my husband's enjoyment so much as provision of nutrients at baby's beck and call. In fact, I'd argue they don't belong to me at all these days, even though they happen to be attached to my chest.

OK. Sorry. Off topic! Back to the usual madness! :)
I am right there with you Alicia! I've got a 2mo old too. They are there to provide the perfect baby food!
