ST docs: how to understand ANA test results.
I just got these back and it says "positive"
- Titre: 320 Pattern: Homogenous
- Titre: 160 Pattern: Speckled
- Titre: 160 Pattern: Few Nuclear Dots

I am trying to find anything I can out there on this. But maybe one of you fine folks know...? WT heck does all this mean?

that is a bit of an odd result - usually there is a titre and then which pattern.

positive is meaningless - lots of people are positive without it meaning anything.

looks like you posted what the lab's cutoff for positive is depending on which pattern is present.

so look at the results again - is there a titre and pattern given?

I agree with Cat. A positive ANA test is almost meaningless as a stand alone test.

Why was it drawn? What symptoms are you having? What is your doc trying to rule in or out?

I'm sure (hoping) there were other labs drawn aside from just the ANA.

That's what it said. So you're right, they probably listed the cutoff values for the three tests, and I hit one or more of them. I suppose this means more blood work eh? :-(

no the rest of the values could be coming and a positive (meeting the cut off) is no big deal
did they do a CRP or ESR with it?

Also: Anti-ds DNA and ENA screen are negative. In what reading I have seen so far, it seems Hashimoto's can cause a positive ANA, so I suspect that's what's going on here. But my RA Factor is high. Sigh. So frickin complicated!

well if you have Hashimoto's and it is not currently well controlled (TSH, FT3, FT4 all normal AND thyroid antibodies low) then all sorts of things will be off.

can you fax me your actual reports? (866) 507-3714
