I need to start taking a multivitamin of some sort. I am just wanting to know what kinds are out there and what works. As a women and an athlete I know my body needs more and needs to be taken care of, so tell me what you are taking and how well it works for you.

talk to your doctor before taking multi vitamins. it may seem like overkill but you may not know how the contents of the multi vitamins could affect any underlying health problems you may have. a lot vitamins out there have outrageous doses and leave you with nothing but really expensive urine.

Flintstones. Children's vitamins don't upset my stomach.
Don't be so easy on yourself 'cause this one might be all that you have left

I consult in the supplement industry so I know too much about manufacturing, raw ingredients etc.
Multis I take sporadically - maybe 1-3x per week - a brand called Thorne (cleanest plant I have ever seen, meets australian guidelines...no binders therefore you actually absorb what you are taking...)
Iron I try to take a bit more frequently as I tend to run anemic.
Consistently after training I take potent antioxidants - tomato based lycopene, grape seed extract, astraxanthan (the stuff that makes salmon orange), and for joint protection low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (Injuv is the only brand I know that has actually been studied to see that you do indeed absorb it) and lastly for some immune protection from the rigors of training a green tea extract: suntheanine (l-theanine an amino acid) and ecgc (antioxidant)

Do you take your multis sporadically because you forget, or because you (the general "you" as well as the specific "you") don't need one every day?
Thx,
csb

One A Day, Active Formula (it has a green box/label). It has extra B vitamins and others for energy.

when patients come in, if they are symptomatic I start them on every day, but usually back off. and I vary - like I am in a recovery from sunday as well as racing this weekend and will likely be a bit more consistent this week....
I take a hefty dose of vitamin D a few times a week - it is fat soluble.
if I am feeling low energy, moody I get a bit more consistent on the b-vits for a bit (water soluble).
as my stress level from increasing training volume and racing this summer increases I might get more consistent = I am a much better doc than patient ;)

ZBEC, glucosamine/MSM, and fish oil. I have noticed much less achy joints when I added the fish oil.

I a multi-vit (with minerals) daily - actually 2 in the morning, 1 in the evening, as directed. I have a solid history of getting sick and run down with a high volume of training and have found neither occurring since I started the multi-vit (didn't really realize this until I started writing!).
I've also started taking Inflavonoid which is a natural pain killer/anti-inflammatory. I'm very skeptical about extra "stuff", but it has been working magic! I'm never stiff, sore or tight ever anymore. It's awesome.

I take a lot of Vitamin C as UTI prevention. Works very well. Not an issue when I'm single.
