That's one of the reasons I'm not doing it this year. I have just had miserable times the years I've raced. Too cold of water for me. I am hoping to be down there to spectate though. Will know more after a meeting at 9:15 this morning!

Not to worry. It's cold, but a Friday morning dip at La Jolla always seems to take the edge off. I am just hoping for reasonably warm conditions once I get out of the water..........last time, the swim was pretty much the warmest I was all day!

I am getting in on Thursday and staying at the Comfort Suites Marina.........anybody else?

Cathy, I hope you make it down, it would be fun to meet you.

I couldn't put my face in for the first 100 or so at Chicago this year, and that was 60.. Cali is going to hurt!

G - I also arrive Thursday, but have to work Friday so I'll stay in SD. But if that Cove swim is early enough, maybe we could make it a ST party? I'd be in!

OK, just put a flight on 24-hour hold. Arriving Thursday AM (working the rest of the day) and leaving Tuesday night. Staying in Carlsbad at friends until Monday.

We'll have to drag KestrelKerri out too!

I am going. This will be my 3rd year. Last year I said I would not do it again until I had forgotten the swim. Well, I caved under the peer pressure and registered. This year not as excited for some reason. I have always gone with friends. This will be my first completely solo race. No friends or family going to even watch :(. Since I am coming from Texas I am really not familiar with the area. If y'all are swimming, I would love to try to meet up. I haven't made my arrangements yet. Can you see me dragging my feet?!

I am coming from Texas as well...........much as I hate to admit it. ;-)

I will have 7 other athletes from the DFW area with me. Where are you from? (Unless, of course, you are one of my peeps posting incognito) Feel free to join us for dinner, etc.........we will be your surrogate family! :-)

I know what you mean about the swim............kind of like labor - you tend to forget the details until it is too late.

We are getting there Thursday afternoon and staying at the Comfort Suites on Coast Hwy.

I will be getting a final headcount for dinner and will add you in. Planning to go to an Italian place in Carlsbad that I have been to everytime........it's good, safe and reasonably priced.

Email me......gail@gorillamultisport.com

I am organizing Friday night dinner for my clients, their adoring fans and some friends.......want to join us? I need to get a final headcount so that I can adjust my reservation.

Friday morning I always swim at LaJolla then head to the Potato Shack in Encinitas for pancakes. We'll probably swim about 9.

Not at all sure that I'll be racing as I am dealing with a glute/hamstring issue that has me thinking the run might end up a walk. :-(

I'm nearly 50 years old and you'd think I'd have learned from my mother by now...cold and wet is not a good combination. Two dozen marathons, half dozen halves plus a full IM, but none starting out cold and wet.

Anyway, I'll be testing out my new neoprene cap to match my old wetsuit ~ 9 on Friday.

Somebody dope-slap me please.

Thank you for posting. What do you wish you had worn out of T1 in 20-20 hindsight? I am not so afraid of the water as I am spending the rest of the day with cold, wet hair and clothes. Would you pull on a long-sleeve shirt or jacket to later remove?

What would you do advise me to wear out of T1 that would increase my chance of having a good experience? I want to be comfortable more than I want to be aero in this race. Like you, I won't be back if I'm too cold.
