We finally got to say Joan Jett & The Blackhearts on Friday [4/15] at the Count Basie in Red Bank Great little room; about 1,500 seats, restored a few years ago to its 1920's style
I say finally as this show was originally scheduled for April 2020, but pushed back & back & back [the paper tickets had been on our fridge for TWO YEARS!!! LOL]
D'Wife had never seen Miss Larkin - as we call her at home - and had wanted to check that one off [she finaly got to see Blondie for the first time in 2019, also in Red Bank]. When we bought the tix, Red Bank was the only show she was doing in the area so we jumped on that show; not knowing of course, she'd add a show at Hard Rock in AC, which is WAY more convenient [Red Bank is an hour & half drive up RT 70 > The Parkway - more about that later]
They opened with "Victim of Circumstance" then the hits: "Cherry Bomb" "Do Ya Wanna Touch Me" "Bad Reputation". A few lesser known/non-radio songs then the second batch of hits "I Love Rock & Roll" "Crimson & Clover" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You"
Lights went down, and carpets were rolled out for the acoustic set, as she's got an acoustic collection out now. Unplugged versions of "Victim of Circumstance" and "Cherry Bomb" were kinda cool
The show came to about an hour forty - D'Wife felt let down about this, as we'd driven almost that long to get there, and still again to get home
I said "Look. They have a lot of songs, but not that many that everyone knows, so there's not as much there to pull from, unlike Foo Fighters, for example. You're not gonna get three hours. So you have to ask 'Did they play the songs you wanted to hear?'"
"Yes"
"Did they leave anything out?"
"Not really"
"Were there songs you didn't recognize, that you'd look for again?"
"Sure"
"Did they do songs in a way you hadn't expected?"
"I do like acoustic, yes"
"Then it was a good show, wouldn't you agree?"
"I guess"
"Yes, it was - go with that"
We saw Joan Jett, Cheap Trcik, and Heart on their HoF tour. Heart was the most surprising since I had never really been into them that much. The whole show was really good.
I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.
