I remember in Kona one year I was there a guy swam crazy fast with one arm too. I think that was 2004 while I was racing Kona. That was the year Sarah missed the cutoff for the bike and had to drop. Kudos to her for letting it motivate her and the next year she accomplished her task. There are a lot of stories of amazing accomplishments at Ironman, including a Kiwi or Aussie rugby player who was hit from behind while cycling and paralyzed who came back, swam the English Channel, and then made the regular cutoffs at Ironman. He spoke at the opening ceremony and was amazing. Perhaps one of the old timers can remind me of his name. Then I am always touched my Alex Zanardi, the F1 world champ who had both legs torn off and his heart stopped 7 times while en route to the hospital and came back and raced Hawaii with an incredible attitude, and said he felt lucky his accident happened. There are so many amazing stories around Ironman other than the leaders and what "ticks" inside is the story most often lost while we dwell on the race winners. There are a LOT of winners in that race and you'd be shocked at how many survivors and "strivers" are in the midst.
