Did I just get phished?
I've had a LinkedIn profile for years.
A couple of days ago I received an e-mail from LinkedIn alerting me to a connection request from someone I know professionally. I clicked the link in the e-mail to accept and was taken to a sign-in page, instead of my phone's app taking over. I did not sign in using the browser; rather, I opened my app (which is always logged in) and no request existed from the guy. I thought it was odd, but blew it off and chalked it up to a quirk of technology.
This morning I received another e-mail, this one alerting me to a request from a guy I know with 100% certainty I'm already connected with on LinkedIn. I clicked the e-mail link to accept and was taken to the sign-in page, rather than my phone's app taking over. This time, I signed in and discovered an empty account with my name on it.
I immediately used my app to change my password on my real account. This afternoon, I tried to log onto LinkedIn using my laptop's browser but it kept rejecting my new password. I requested a link to reset it, and got the e-mail but I was skeptical so I opened my phone's app and it's still logged in. I went back to my laptop and requested a second password reset and manually typed in my e-mail address, rather than using the auto populated one that I used the first time. This time a password reset e-mail arrived but it had a different subject line than the first e-mail.
WTF? Has anyone else had a LinkedIn experience like this?
War is god
