Check out my picture, any experienced comments on position?

Please take a look at this picture, i would love to hear what some of you more experienced than I think about my bike position. I'm sure the picture shows my lack of hamstring flexibity, I'm working on that. This seat position is based on having my knee lined up with the pedal spindle at the 3 oclock. I'm a little more comfortable with the seat a bit more forward but do not want to abuse the knee's. Do you see any obvious problems? Any suggestions?

My only comment is a question. Does everyone on this forum ride Cervelo?

Thats o.k. guys, its keeping my question at the top.

I've only had two bikes, and they have both been Cervelo's. (One & P3) Truth is i bought the One because I thought it looked cool. I really liked it and upgraded to the P3 recently. I've really enjoyed the P3 and you must admit it looks pretty cool with those Hed wheels.

I agree..it's looks good and I like riding the P3, but I love my Elite!! I just rode a Blade last week, of which I had high hopes for, I have heard many favorable reviews and IMHO, the bike doesn't compare to the P3 or Elite T Class. I found it to be way less responsive and even though I was fit well b4 riding it...I just never got comfortable riding it. It's just an opinion, a lot of factors could have attributed to my disliking it...just thought I would share.

First I'm no expert and second it's very hard to tell from a photo.

From what I (think) see is that your low back muscles are fairly tight. Try rotating your pelvis as described on John Cobb's site and see if that is comfortable for you. This means extending your pelvis as if to increase the lumbar lordosis, sort of arching the back a bit while sliding back a bit. You are probably one of these people with a natural rounded back rather than flat back like I have.

What is your seat height adjustment. Try as a starting point measuring your inseam in sock feet with a book stuffed between the crotch. Then multiply this by .883 to get a ballpark starting point.

It appears to me that your knee may be slightly ahead of your spindle if you were to drop a plumbline to measure. Or at least that's how it appears to me in the photo. As I understand it, this is fine if your lower leg is longer than your femur. If you have longer femurs you would want to move your saddle back to put your knee behind the plumbline. Measure this from the bottom of your foot to the center of the knee joint and then from the center of the knee joint to the approx center of the greater trochanter of the hip joint. This is actually fairly hard measurements to do accurately.

It's really hard to judge from one picture and I can't gaurantee that the suggestions I gave are totally correct. It's fine to take measurements and do analysis but the bottom line IMO is that the best position for anyone to ride in is the one that their body feels the most comfortable with.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Sure does. Same wheels that my wife has on her P2K and same as I ran on my TCR-1.

I think Cerveloguy's analysis of this position is spot on, especially the rotating the pelvis comment. Not so much a case of anything wrong with the fit per se', as much as the posture might be able to be improved some. On the bright side, the bike geometry and frame size appear to be very good. Ahh, excuse me sir, may we respectfully request that gentlemen wear a shirt while posing on this forum....

Thanks Tom. I take that as the highest compliment coming from you but it was sort of a lucky guess. BTW, if you ever want to hire a bike fitter..(!!!)

Thanks Cervelo Guy and Tom. I try to flatten the back when I ride but its a bit uncomfortable. Looks like making my body more flexible should become a priority.

Tom I thought no shirt would invite a more accurate analysis, I'm just glad no one made fun of my less than stellar physique.

Thanks again,
Dennis

I was gonna buy a Cervelo...I really liked the ride. However, I discovered this thing called the Internet and just got a Cannondale MS 2000 Frame/Fork (new in box) for $351...Combined with a teammate who was converting from Campy to Shimano...I was able to build a "well-fitting" Cannondale with Campy Record components for $800 (no wheels)...

Simply put, it looks like I'm a Cannondale guy for the time being...This is an inexpensive way for me to test my thoughts on Steep Seat Angle bikes...

Hard to tell with your foot at 3 o'clock, but first thing I notice is that your seat looks to high. I am betting that your leg is damn near straight at 6 o'clock with your toe pointed almost straight down, and hips rocking when you pedal.

This is my take (and also what i do) keep your head up , when you see some girls suck your belly up as far as possible, then after you pass let it hang as low as possible. Now if this gives you gas wait at least 15 sec. after passing to relax your stomach!

Other than the possibility of your seat being a smidge high, I'd say your position's fine.
Stay in it for about 250 miles/week for a couple of months and I guarantee it will be "fast".
