I've listened to the podcast and both Eriksson and Geesmann agreed the running volume was uncharacteristically low.
What works for uberrunner Lange and his physiology won't necessarily work for most P
Bike FitRO athletes, I assume. As a matter of fact I believe Geesmann said the low volume was Lange-specific.
Note that Lange seems to have improved his hitherto-average biking very substantially, too. The approach to running may have been part of a push to start biking harder.
I will have to listen again, but I know that he was talking about most of Patrick's running being at a certain speed so there's no lazy running. He also coaches Kat Matthews, who is notoriously low on mileage with injury concerns.
Not everything will work for everyone, of course. But I think there is something to running a little harder building appropriate durability without the volume with the slower miles while staying injury free due to not running sloppy (if the athlete is prone to that - I know Matt Hanson has talked about not running slow because his form breaks down...rarely under 6"15 pace).
I would think Lucy would still be on the lower side of things volume wise on the run, but it would be interesting to know how many IM pros are running more than 2 hours for long runs these days. I get that they can run 18-20 in that time haha.
