This topic came up last night with a runner friend who loves the theragun. My question was "why not foam rolling"? As I'm also contemplating the gun.
His answer => it "massages" muscles in the calves that he wouldnt be able to take care of while foam rolling and it doesnt hurt.

Waiting to see what the other have to see because to me the gun is a shortcut to foam rolling.

Got a Theragun as a holiday gift last year. Skeptical at first (it's expensive and I already have a massage stik, foam roller, etc.; so didn't want an expensive toy gathering dust), but tried it and am a convert. Much easier to use than a foam roller, and takes less "work." It has really helped with some muscle issues that were impacting my running stride, and is great for overall recovery. Once we are back to racing again it's definitely going in my transition bag for post-race use. Highly recommended.

I got the mini Theragun for my birthday this year. Was not expecting it and was a bit skeptical.

I find it useful, but not as useful as people crack it up to be. It's good at getting to those deep muslce aches and knots, but I find foam rolling to do a more thorough broad job if that makes sense. Like they complement each other, not fully replace one another. The Theragun is nice in that it's easier to transport (at least the mini is) and I can use it while doing work/email/watching TV.

Overall I decided to keep it just for the ease of use and the size. I'm hoping to get some of the other end attachments soon so I can use the Theragun for specific muscle targeting and foam rolling for broad massage and relief.

Bought last year a cheap "kock-off" on Amazon as I did not wanted to shell out £250-300 for a Theragun in case it was must marketing fluff.

Found it really great, especially for calves (massage stick & foam roll were not effective).
Using it every 2 days led me to run more over a year than I ever did (over the past 3 seasons, I had each year a stress fracture (left posterior tibialis, then right, then left again)) - not this year ! I'd think that it helped me to keep "loose" calves and as such muscles were able to absorb more impact (and so less impact for the bones) ...

I loved it so much that I treated myself to a Theragun a couple weeks ago (black friday offer) - mainly to get more amplitude (10mm v. 16mm). While it's expensive, I am happy that I upgraded, as I found it to be more efficient (ie, able to loosen up the muscle in a couple minutes instead of ~10-15mins with the cheap one). However, gosh, it is even more noisy!!!

Finally - the "knock-off" was the classic shape (same as hypervolt) - and I've found the Theragun "triangle" shape to be more convenient for use.
