What's going on with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency?

Quote:
Washington (CNN) "The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history. Right now, across the country, election officials are reviewing and double checking the entire election process prior to finalizing the result," the Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council and the Election Infrastructure Sector Coordinating Executive Committees said.

The statement from the elections officials -- which included Department of Homeland Security employees and was promoted on Twitter by Chris Krebs, the head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency -- urged the American public to have faith in the system.

Krebs, who has been debunking conspiracy theories pushed by Trump and his allies on Twitter, has told people in recent days he doesn't care if he is fired by the President.

A senior administration official also defended the Thursday evening statement as necessary to protect the integrity of the 2020 election.

"CISA sees its first principle as protecting democratic processes, not protecting an individual," the official said.

"While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections, we can assure you we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too," the election officials said in concluding their statement.

The statement referenced no longer appears on the website, presuming the link is accurate.

Did Krebs get canned and the agency's findings "disappeared?" I'm sure he knew he was on the chopping block, daring to speak an inconvenient truth from inside the Trump Administration.

It's not accurate - the URL you used had about the last half cut off.

The statement is right here in their list of press releases:

Hmm. Must be that CNN right wing media bias, hyperlinking an incomplete URL in their story to stoke the conspiracies...

Interesting then that Krebs still has his job, all things considered.

An assistant director resigned, and Krebs doesn't expect to last much longer.

All things considered (COVID pandemic, intentional undermining of USPS, huge numbers of mail in ballots, fewer voting locations, few drop boxes in some states, massive numbers of pre-election lawsuits...), this was a remarkably efficient and robust election. International election observers gave it a thumbs up. And yet Duffy calls it a shitshow without any evidence.

What is confusing?

Some people are not loyal to trump, instead they are doing their jobs. Just like Elaine McCusker that was punished for pointed out that the trump Ukraine extortion was illegal.

Also there is not DHS Secretary for over 540 days. This is the longest period in the history of the country that a cabinet seat has remained open. The person in the acting position, is also likely serving illegally. But Republicans are fine will all this.

Sadly, that doesn't even deserve pink font.

He was not only running election security (with a Senate Election coming up soon), but also fighting the ransomware attacks on hospitals. You know, the places that are important to not shut down, especially in pandemics. Destroying this leadership of this agency is really really bad. And could have significant negative results. What competent person would want to step up right now and risk being fired? The only people trump will put in charge are sycophants.

The person that will get to choose is the acting secretary of DHS, that is not legally serving in that position and is so unqualified, even a Republican senate will not confirm him.

Sweet post!

In all seriousness, it would be a nice public gesture to let the current administration employees who are targeted for capricious firing know that the Biden Administration will review their terminations and remain eligible for rehire.

Christopher Krebs, who led the federal government's election cybersecurity efforts, has been fired by President Donald Trump via Twitter.

Krebs, the director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, or CISA, has been the target of public criticism from Trump since the Nov. 3 election over his agency's Rumor Control blog, which rebuts a list of false claims about election fraud and hacking.

Welcome to the Biden administration, Krebs.

A nice gesture, but maybe not legal. Federal hiring processes are pretty strict, for your run of the mill federal employee.

Krebs himself wasn't run-of-the-mill, though. He was a political appointee. And the White House has pretty broad authority there to hire and fire.

Almost all of Trump's firing have been of appointees. It's much harder to fire a regular Federal worker, even an SES.

The irony is not lost that most of them were appointed by....Trump. (Though there have been some Obama appointees).

On Oct 19, Trump called Biden a criminal and then called the reporter a criminal for not reporting it, even though the reporter was asking a question about why Trump calls Biden a criminal. Trump's only evidence was "read his laptop."

Some of Trump's loyal groupies claim that Trump only lost because the media did not report on Biden's "scandals". Even Trump cannot articulate what these "scandals" are.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit:
There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

At a minimum he should be disbarred. These kinds of threats in an environment that has been created now have the potential for someone to attempt to carry them out. Further, they act as a deterrent against future whistleblowers coming forward.

And recall Steve Bannon recently said Christopher Wray and Dr Fauci should be beheaded.

This is the very definition of overkill.

It started - of course - online. Part of the "Q" mythology has been a notion of special extra-judicial military tribunals to be set up to prosecute the "criminals." It started just as firing squads. But became ever-more-elaborate.

It's oddly left wing. Hauling out political opposition for the guillotine used to be a tableau of a communist popular uprising.

To quote the leader of the boys in your link,
"At the moment we're free. But the moment they start trying to take our Constitution is the moment the 2A kicks in, it's the moment where we've got to start telling them, we're not going to take it anymore."

A Constitutional free and fair election just concluded. Oh, it's the fair part that is hanging everyone up. My guy lost, that is not fair! My constitution says you have to be fair to my guy. Only after you have been fair to my guy, will I be free. If I am not free, then I will resort use my 2A freedom.

The President is calling the election illegitimate, the biggest fraud in American history. His lawyers, who speak for no one but him, make comments like this, calling for the imprisonment or murder of public servants for doing their goddam job, and Trumpists barely bat an eye.

THIS is why we're not just happy that he's out, but happy that your guy lost. You don't deserve a seat at the table when your seat is literally being used to incite chaos, usurp our Constitutional system of government and electoral process, and you stand by and say nothing.

He deserves to be swept into the dustbin of history, along with his enablers, and that includes Trump loyalist voters. You deserve to lose, and to continue losing, until you can find some bare minimum standards by which to hold your candidates and leaders. Not a minute sooner.
