ultimate TT bike brake cables (Giant Trinity)
It seems many TT bikes with internal routing and especially my Giant trinity stuggle with cables. Mine chews through the outer cables pretty quick and this becomes a big worry for me when im racing a lot or travelling with the bike which means taking it apart often and damaging the cables more.

Has anyone got recommendations on how to make the cables last longer?

Also has anyone tried to fit the jagwire pro cables on their TT bike? with the metal outers i figure that might be the only thing which can last longer if you can fit them properly.

I tried the Jag Wire cables once for a rear TT brake. The funny thing is that they are really only meant to replace short sections of existing cable and require you to still use at least some standard cable on the install. I combined parts from two Jag Wire kits to try and replace my rear brake cable on my Speed Concept and the result was disappointing. I would maybe try something like shrink sleeve on the areas of your cable housing that are getting worn out. That would cost less than a dollar and probably work as well or better.

I've been using jagwire links on all my bikes because they easily make any bends required and weigh very little. Why did you find them disappointing?

I have been using mechanical disc brakes. I had cervelo s3 disc and routed all 4 cables with jag links.

Now I have felt ia advanced disc and also did the same thing.

They are great.
What you need to do is avoiding any sharp bend. If you can route it smoothly then there's no need to use convention external cables so you can make 100% linkage line. Do it with patiece and creativty!

Stay home, stay healthy.

They worked Ok for short runs, but I always found it odd that they require some regular housing coming out of the levers or through the frame. When I combined two kits and did a single run to the back brake the lever feel was really spongy. I thought they would be good for long runs because the links themselves have zero compression, but I guess when you add that many of those little gaps between links in a row the amount of compression becomes very noticable. So they work well as designed, but I am always trying to apply some Hill-Billy engineering and putting something strange together. A 4-foot section of JagWire cable does not work well.

Interesting, and this is actually why I asked. In theory they should be compressionless, but my brakes feels a bit spongy on my road bike and I dont know how much of it is due to the housing (elite link), wheels (Enve), brake pad (Enve), and the brake caliper (FSA WE dual pivot). Did you switch to standard housing and end up with a better feel?

Yup. Standard housing was better. I was trying the JagWire because I use the really minimalist 3t levers and was hoping for some improved feel but it didn’t work.

Thanks for that info. I'll try the regular road elite housing next time

Interestingly enough, I found the same thing with my setup (3T knife levers). However, on my Felt Aero Road and UP I run link all the way from the bar to the brakes and the feel is pretty darn awesome. FWIW, on the Da I tried running link all the way and the UP and Felt Aero Road both have the initial run of standard housing required by Jagwire.

Now full disclosure the jagwire link was used on the Da to improve the feel of the crappy-in-hindsight original Omegas. A change to the OmegaX fixed all the poor feel on the Da front braking using gore housing.

Anyhow, I use Jagwire Link on all my builds except the Time Trial rig. Partially this is because I can get the housing to hold a shape better than the "floppy" links and when #aeroiseverything you care less about brakes.😉
