How much have you climbed during one ride?
I was finally able to reach my goal of climbing 10,000 feet during one ride, but I didn't do it on just one hill. Thankfully in northern Utah there are many canyons to choose from.

Here's a video featuring the ride https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aleEZo4SNiU.

What's the most everyone has climbed at one time?

Don't have any real hills here in Ontario....more like large speed bumps...lol. I'd have to ride about 300kms to get 10,000 feet of climbing in. The most climbing I've done in one ride this year was 5,000 feet.

I've done the gaps before but it took me 133 miles to cover them. Is there a 100 mile version? I'd be all about that. I did Brandon, Middlebury, Lincoln, App, Roxbury, Rochester. Total climbing came to 12,800

If you just do Lincoln, App, Roxbury and Rochester you can get about 9,600 feet of climbing in 96 miles.

What are we trying to accomplish here?

How much climbing did you do in one climb without specifically trying to do a lot of climbing?

I used to live in Georgia and did the "7 Gaps" which include Brasstown. Now I'm out in Boulder and can easily do a 10,000 ft ride. I've done, Pikes Peak, Mt. Evans, Trail Ridge Rd and Old Fall River Rd in RMNP.

I think riding the gaps were harder. It's much easier to get elevation on one or two hills rather than a bunch, having your legs cool down on descents. On the long hills you just settle in and spin.

I just looked up this ride. That looks like a lot of fun. Especially because you get to ride with others! Is it happening this year?

Either works. But usually you will have a lot of climbing when trying to do so.

YES! However, to me that looks like pure hell. Those doing the everesting challenge just go up and down one hill all day. It’s been pretty popular during this Covid era.

It looks like it is happening this year, at least based on the recent posts on their website. I actually had not thought about it... and now I may register.

B2VT is over 9000 ft in climbing spread out over a series of climbs across 148 miles. The last one not long before the finish was tough (saw a few people walking their bikes up) but the descent was wild.

I have done several days above 3000m and a few over 4000m in the alps, but never done a 5000 meter vertical day.

2000m-3000m seems to be the sweet spot where I am not out all day and the climbing is fun because I can go hard (versus turning into slog and survival).

For reference 2200m is 2x alpe d'Huez. 3000m is 2x Mont Ventoux or 2xStelvio. Any more than that, and I am DONE for the day.

I did 6 gap out of Helen for 9,400 feet in 83 miles. I didn't do the that climb out of Dahlonega to get to the stone pile.

Doing a climb up Brasstown would have made it much harder but would get the route well over 10,000.

I've only climbed it on it's own day. From Helen up Unicoi to Brasstown and back.

I wasn't strong enough to ride straight up, I had to zig-zag up the "wall" even with an 11/36.

I did 6700 meters of climbing in a ride I did a few weekends ago... we climbed each of the three local mountains three times and called it a "Triple Triple Crown" (the Triple Crown is a local ride where you climb each mountain once). It totaled up as 287km and was almost exactly 12 hours of ride time!

Have done the Death Ride up around Markleeville near Lake Tahoe a dozen times over the years always was a good training ride for IMC back in the day as it was at the beginning of July, and did them all on my tri bike.

Course varied from around 125 miles to 145 miles or so and 14,000 to 16,500 feet of climbing, you had to complete all 5 passes to get the little pin at the end. A great day out but was pretty tired at the end especially when it was one of the really hot ones.

One year had lightening hitting the ground close to us as we were flying down one of the passes a bit scary especially when it started to pour down, was totally frozen when we got to the bottom of that pass.

There's a lot of impressive climbing in this thread!

I've never lived anywhere that had any real climbs, but I did the Dubai Roadsters Coast to Coast Challenge in 2014 while I was living in Abu Dhabi. Ended up climbing over 8,600 feet over 127.5 miles. If I recall correctly, the route was supposed to be about 135 miles, but was cut short that day for whatever reason (didn't bother me. I was smoked!)

Oh whoops, my mistake.

There's a ride we do over the gaps of Vermont that we call the Six Gaps. Not an organized race/fondo or anything but it's well known by that name and does include the steepest paved full mile in North America.

That sounds brutal. I rode up Sequatchie Mountain in the Hincapie Fondo a couple years ago, and that was one of the steepest short climbs I have done. I was having a bad day and had to stop in the middle. I cannot fathom what the steepest paved mile in NA would be like.

Out of the saddle probably 30-40% of the time, but Im comfortable grinding in the saddle at 65-75 rpm. You get some relief from the descents too. I ate some solids in the early hours but it became a gatorade, coke and monster hydro diet as it got up to 90+ degrees with a few cliff blocks when I could stomach it.

I would imagine my biggest day was roughly 11,000 ft over roughly 120 miles in the Triple Bypass in CO. Not a huge day but it’s all at altitudes over roughly 8000ft.

I’ve done that ride a few times.

It's called Lincoln Gap near Warren Vermont. It's the most sadistic 1.2 miles I've ever ridden. Averages anywhere from 18-20 % depending on your elevation source. The 8-10% sections are where you "recover". Of the 8 or so times I've done it, I've twice had to stop and walk the last bit.

I just stumbled on this video of someone hitting 43 mph while sledding down it

Incidentally, in trying to search for this, I discovered that I have hundreds of Strava rides/runs where the elevation change is listed as 65,000 feet. Mostly older rides/runs with the ForeRunner 910 and 310 which had those problematic altimeters

Now I am going through workouts and telling Strava to correct the elevation to find out what it really was. Does anyone know of a way to do that in bulk?

30,800ft in 122 miles of riding for my Everesting in June. I did the math a bunch of times but I guess I did an extra lap out there on the climb. It sucked enough without the extra but I was pretty much numb and running on gatorade at that point anyways.
