Stages Head Unit

Are any of you running the Stages head unit? Do you have any recommendations for or against it? I see that it doesn't support Di2 integration, which seems to be the only drawback, other than the mounts. I'm interested in the L50.

I have used the M50 and then after a tragic oopsie incident I switched the the L50. No problems with either unit. Absolutly outstading custmer support from the Stages team.

Screen brightness is just incredible. Brightest unit I have ever seen. I run it to automatically adjust the brightness in response to outside brightness. I also prefer to run it in "night" mode where the background is black instead of white. I hypothosize that this increases battery endurance, although I have not tested this theory.

I would not hessitate to get a Stages again. M50 vs L50 is a tough call. There are sometimes I think I prefered the smaller M50, but the L50 is just an awesome device and the huge screen is awesome in turn-by-turn directions.

I don't have Di2 so I can't comment from that perspective, but happy to answer any other questions you might have.

If turn by turn wasn't important, which would you prefer (size wise)?

I guess it depends on how much data you want to see and how good your vision is.

If I am remembering correctly the M50 has a total of 10 (5 rows of 2) display blocks, the L50 has 16 display blocks (4 rows of 4). I perfer data field 2 units wide for any value that will be greater than 3 digits (ie time in h:mm:ss). I use a 1x1 unit size for smaller data (ie cadence of XX).

If you love structured workouts, go for the L50. If your near-field vision isn't great go for the L50.

If space on your handlebars is really limited, go for the M50.

Thinking about it more, I would probably get the L50 again if I had to choose. It is $250 on Clever Training, I'll PM you a discount code as well if you have never used CT before.

Thanks, I ordered the L50. I was able to get BikeTiresDirect to price match Clever Training's price (w/ the additional discount) so I could use my BikeTiresDirect VIP points. In the end, I was only out of pocket about $80 for the L50.

Given that it's LCD, the dark mode won't have an impact. If it were OLED it would help.
