Static swimming with rubber band in small pool?
So, recently bought a house with a small pool (4x7m) and might put in an Endless pool motor (Fastlane) sometimes next year.

Meanwhile, was considering doing static swimming, using rubber bands, something like this.

So two questions:

1. Is these rubber bands actually viable and acceptable solutions?? I tried a bit with a homemade system, and did not like the sensation at all.

2. What rubber band system would you recommend?

Thanks T

I use two of these, one for each leg on the ankle.

I anchor it with this

I didn’t like the waist belt fix point. I’m good for about 45mins, 3 times a week.

I've got a similar pool and use surgical tubing I bought at the hardware store. Maybe 10 bucks for 10 feet? I tied it in a loop, so it's "doubled" and only half as bouncy as only one strand would be. Then I extend it with rope to whatever belt gadget I use to tie it around my waist.

The other thing I found that works great is I clipped one end of it 4 feet up in the air to an existing post that already happened to be there. This pulls me slightly up from behind because pulling level with the water actually doesn't work well at all. If you aren't moving across the water, your feet sink too much. So mounting it a little high evens everything out.

Get some professional bands.
Don't make them yourself.
I swam in college with a teammate that was blinded in both eyes doing dryland with surgical tubing.

There are a few brands out there, money well spent.

I have been using a much easier and cheaper solution. I took three old bike tubes that had a puncture in them, cut out the section where the valve is, and tied them together. I wrapped one end around an umbrella base. At the other end, I tied a small loop. I placed an old race belt through that loop. WORKS FANTASTIC.
I highly recommend this for several reasons. The bike tubes are very durable and they have a fair amount of stretch to them. The race belt also has a tiny bit of stretch. So there is no discomfort around your waste.
Total cost: FREE.

The comments by the others are correct -- it is much, much harder to keep your feet up near the surface. So I use swim fins for about half of my workout, and then I switch and use a pull buoy.
I will also use a snorkel and nose plug for much of the workout so I can really focus on form.

Unlike a regular workout in the pool, there is no glide phase, so you really maximize your time in the water. My Forerunner 245 shows me my heart rate while I'm swimming and I can attest to getting a good/tough workout.
I also use a waterproof MP3 player to help the time pass.
I also have a lab who cannot stay out of water - so he comes up next to me and around me multiple times during the workout, and I have to try not to choke on water from laughing out loud.
Good luck!

I'm just one 50-mile race away from my goal weight.

It’s even less fun than lap swimming, but it’ll get the job done. Get an underwater speaker for some entertainment.
