I have a race tomorrow morning swim portion is in the Chesapeake Bay that just posted the water temps at 88 degrees. I'm absolutely blown away by how warm that is

I’ll be there. The swim is pretty shallow and it’s obviously been quite warm here. It is supposed to get into the 60s tonight so hopefully we get back to the low 80s.

LOL... there is nothing worse then swimming in WARM water. Did the Colonial a couple of years ago in 85 degrees and it was disgusting.

The Gulf is always about 88 in the summer and early fall so I'm used to it. Anything under 80 makes my ears hurt.

88 for the Chesapeake? That's warm for that part of the country.

Water temp for IMLOO in 2009 was 84. I was sweating coming out of the water. Air temp that day was 96 with a heat index of 114 plus they ran out of water on the bike course

Like...85+ I think. Late September for Lifetime Tempe you're swimming in bathwater. I just looked at the temperature for it now, it can't even get a reading, I think it tops out at 90F haha. It's also 109F here right now.

Water temp of 93°F at a Midwestern Xterra race in 2011.

It definitely was no wetsuit that day

Yup. I last did it when the swim was 1 mile and the run was only 5. Those distances suited my skills much better than the new standard Olympic distance.

Doing the same race. This'll be my warmest. At least I don't need to worry about getting my wetsuit off in T1...

I did Cartagena 70.3, think posted water temp 88 for an Ocean (bay) swim. Skipped the swimskin and took the swim purposefully very easy to avoid over heating.

Temps around here haven't been super high though.. sometimes that shallow water just doesnt mix with the cooler deeper water.

PNW here. Warmest it's ever been mid 70s. In lakes. Ocean is always cold. Race in July in 60 degree water.

Y'all need to quit moving here. So many out of state plates on our roads it is getting ridiculous.

I raced Philippines 70.3 and my head was so hot in the swim cap and I had my goggles on over the top and couldn’t get it off I spent whole swim just wishing that cap off I was cooked. That race was scorching all day. Also raced Singapore 70.3 it was so hot 10km into the run I had a beach shower for a few minutes and with 200m left to run I stopped at the water station for a few mins just to cool down to make that last bit. It wasn’t racing in the run it was survival.

Swim wasn't bad outside of some dude grabbing me and say I can't do this I can't do this! Christ it scared me how panicked he was.

On a side note I had problems Breathing late in the run. Couldn't get any air in. Felt like what I emagine a asthma attack feels like. HR didn't spike just literally could not breath. Not sure if my new tri top is to tight or hr strap is to tight... Heat?????

Anyone else deal with this?

So how'd the race go? I was checking out some of the kinetic sport races recently but haven't signed up for anything yet.

I think it was about 84f, in a Pennsylvania river swim. Someone wore a wetsuit anyways.

They are definitely worth a look. I've done three of them this year. Devilman, Independence, and Tri It.

The roads for both Independence and Tri it were in fantastic condition....

I'm doing NJ State for the first time this weekend. It's gonna be warm.

Thanks first of all.. I staff with them, ambassador and race their events... it's a lot of work behind the scenes to put on an event. Good to hear you had a great experience.

I raced the Olympic with you and was thankful the water temp went down a little but I still prefer water more in the 70s. It's about the warmest I've raced in... with a temp around 82-83... I tend not to really do much of a warm up when its that hot. I raced another one of our events on Sunday at Colonial Beach... water was pretty warm there as well!

It was my first time at the Diamond in the Rough course so I checked myself a bit on the bike but still had a great race overall with a 6th overall... look forward to racing it again and attacking the bike a bit more. I currently ride a single with a 54-28 being my smallest gear... climbing that mile long hill at mile 20 of the bike was about the limit of my gearing! Enjoyed the bike course though.

Did Muncie 70.3 in 2012 and the water was 91. The whole race was shortened due to excessive heat. The swim was 1 mile, the bike I think was around 32 miles, and the run was a 10k.
