is hoka still the best shoe for someone with ankle osteoarthritis?

i stopped running for a few years, but was able to start doing it again when i got some hoka cliftons. i don't run a lot, to avoid wear and tear, but i've noticed it gets worse every year whether i run or not, so adding in a little so i can race a few tris still seems reasonable to me.

i stopped for the winter and am just getting started again, and its time for new shoes. is there anything i should be considering aside from the hokas?

What do you want in a shoe to help with ankle osteoarthritis?

I find Cliftons highly cushioned and comfortable. Some people seem to prefer certain releases of them but I've only had 4s and 5s and they've been great for me. Bondis are even more cushioned but I haven't tried them myself. I think those 2 are probably what people think about when they say 'Hokas'. Hoka have a range though, I have Hoka Elevons and they are fine but not really the super cushioned shoe that Cliftons are, for instance.

Lot's of manufacturers make highly cushioned shoes now - Runners World article.

Really just bumping because I'm sure others have recommendations and you've dropped off the front page.

recent posts about the vaporfly having some kind of cushioning plate intrigues me as well.

I thought of mentioning Nike. Seems a highly cushioned shoe but the thing you'd need to think of is it has been reported as being unstable, for some, in the heel. I don't know anything about your Osteo and how that might be a factor. The plate would probably firm things up, I assume, I think it's the type and amount of foam that adds the cushioning.

I have bilateral big toe hallux rigidus. Been running in Hoka’s for over 3 years and they are a life saver. No issues at all. I have a carbon fiber plate that is inserted in my work shoes to help with daily walking.
