Watts/HR difference TT vs upright
What is the "usual gap" between watts in TT vs upright for y`all? I've noticed that my hr is approximately 10 bpm higher at the same wattage in TT vs upright. When I do intervals though I can't get my HR up to the same level as when I'm sitting up, but I have just recently startet doing work in TT position. (The HR goes up a bit almost every interval session but the legs feel pretty much the same.) Should I expect it to come up to the same level as my upright intervals or is it normal with some discrepancy? At the moment the difference is approximately 60 watts, and the HR differs around 10-15bpm (5-8%).

Before i got my bikefit my HR was about 3-5 beats higher in TT-pos at the same wattage. After my bikefit that difference mostly disappeared. The biggest difference before and after the fit was the reach, my fitter increased the reach about 5cm.

For same wattage, my HR is the same whatever the position, from extreme aero position (pursuit, team pursuit) to tri aero position to basic road bike to completely upright.
IMO it is a matter of being correctly fitted and using the TT position regularly at all power levels (around 50% of time).

In the end the TT position is so confortable you could sleep on it... :-)

That's how I'd describe my power/position as well.

My HR is higher in TT poisition by about 5-7 beats. I was confused at first, but seems I am not alone.

I'm pretty sure my HR is about the same in TT position and low on pursuits but rises a few beats if I sit up. My assumption was it's a result of heart elevation relative to the rest of the body though I can't say I've given it much thought.

Mine is about 3-5 beats faster in the TT position but I have heard that when you work on the position the HR will start to drift towards the upright position. I will find out over the next few months.

I train indoors almost entirely on my TT bike. My HR is probably a couple beats higher when upright versus in the TT position.

Position matters when it comes to HR because its a function of anatomy.

When your bent over...TT position in this case....and "Generally Speaking" you put pressure on your abdominal aorta and return blood flow from your lower body. That can cause an increase in HR and blood pressure. Everyone is different but it can happen. Its no big deal and a position change can solve the issue if your are worried about it.

Its kind of like when you have to go pee really bad and finally go and feel your HR increases. Your bladder was putting pressure on your lower aorta keeping your blood pressure artificially high and when its released BP dropped and your heart is playing "catch up" albeit for just a few seconds.
