Oval Concepts BB86 Press Fit Shimano compatibility
Quote | Reply
I recently bought a Fuji Norcom straight 2.5- https://archive.fujibikes.com/.../norcom-straight-25- . The BB that comes on it is a Oval Concepts BB86 press fit. I am wondering if this is compatible with an ultegra 6800 crankset or if a different BB is needed? I have read different things about the Oval Concepts having a GTX version that isn't compatible. Is this all of their BB86 or only some? And does someone know how to check between the two? Any insight is appreciated.

No such thing as an Ultegra 8600 crankset.

If you meant to type Ultegra 6800 crankset, it will work.

Pretty sure the Oval Concepts crankset is a GXP standard, with a 24mm ID bearing on the drive side and a 22mm ID bearing on the non-drive side. Shimano 6800 (as well as most other late-model Shimano road cranksets) need a 24mm ID bearing on both sides. Your bottom bracket shell would fit the crankset, but you'd need a new bottom bracket bearings pressed in.

If it were me, I'd keep the Oval Concepts crankset, and take advantage of the fact that it's one of the few cranksets still being made that fits the Powertap C1 Chainring Power Meter. They've recently lowered the price to $350 because it's not compatible with most newer cranks. If you do happen to have compatible cranks, that's a downright steal for double-sided power w/ BTLE and ANT+ connectivity.

You should measure the inside diameter of the bottom bracket bearing on the non-drive side.

If it is 24mm, then it is compatible with a Shimano crankset.

If it is 22mm, then it is compatible with SRAM GXP cranksets.
