Kickr accuracy
I have an original model kickr with accuracy issues. I warm it up with 10 min of riding then calibrate it. Kickr are reading 20W higher that the quarq readings. My RPE matches the quarq. So it feels too easy and I adjust the % on trainerroad to 110%. By the end of the work out the kickr W are 20W lower than the quarq so I can't complete the ride without adjusting trainerroad to 90%. I used to think that I was fading on the ride, now I know that the Kickr is drifting.

Has anyone else seen this ? Is there a fix ?

What about configuring TR to use your bike's PM instead of the trainer to control the workout? I thought that is what most people do who have both a smart trainer and a PM on their bikes. It is what I do. I have no idea whether my 2nd gen KICKR's power is accurate or not... I have never seen it.

I have an old quarq, ANT+ and not BTLE. I guess I could get a dongle. I don't usually have this bike on the trainer so I'd rather have the kickr just work.

Aaah, that is a limitation.

I believe that power accuracy was one of the stated improvements in the 2016 model and that the original did have recognized power accuracy issues. I am not sure I have ever read of a solution, other than the TrainerRoad PowerMatch approach.

It has been since 2017 when the last firmware update changed how the Gen1 operated. Before this I was using my Quarq to control the Perfpro session on the laptop. The laptop is old so I had to add an ANT+ and newer BT dongle to get everything to work together.

After applying that firmware update in 2017 and doing an advanced spin down it usually is within 2 watts of each other (before it was 15 to 20 watt different) so I switched back from power meter control to Kickr control. Perfpro still picks up both signals and gives me a comparison to see the difference. I like using the Kickr as control because it smooths out the session just a little more.

I must admit that I have a dedicated bike with Quarq that sits in about the same temperature room all the time. I have not noticed fluctuation or drift compared to the previous Kickr firmware.

Hopefully if you tinker around with it some more you can get it all synced up nicely.

The solution was to update the firmware of the Gen 1 units. Most of the power accuracy improvements from 2016 were a result of switching to optical power measurements (rather than strain gauges). Gen 1 units could also rely on optical power measures and a firmware update effectively disabled the strain gauge measurements of the Gen 1 units. ...It's not the only improvements made, but this is the biggest.
