Poll: speed box for which TT bike
As you may have seen in another post of mine https://forum.slowtwitch.com/...ervelo%20p5#p6810414

I've developed a speed box for the Cervelo P5 in 4 different sizes.

I started prototyping one up for the giant trinity at the request of a couple people

I've been asked numerous times for a similar box for other bikes. Here are some that have been asked so far:
Cervelo p2/p3
Giant Trinity
Argon 18 E117
Specialized Shiv

What other bikes should I consider? Please include size as well.

If you are in the san francisco bay area, could I take measurements off your bike to develop box for it?

Actually, ignore me unless you have a clever way of getting around the traditional rear brake placement.

Felt IA. Might be easy with the bosses already there. Seems like there would be a market for something bigger and more sleek than what Felt offers.

I just saw the Parlee TTir disc today at Studio Velo. I just fell in love, although not too crazy about the color. I think it's my next TT bike. Going to take it for a spin next weekend.

yeah I have the previous year so it's mostly black and some grey... I have hope for a box then :) if you end up liking it. Put me down for one.
I'm still adjusting the front end on mine but so far so good.

Completed 3d print of prototype design for the Argon18 E117 bike today. Was out of black 3d printing filament, so had to use yellow. I'm quite happy with the result and fit.

There are so many P2 and P3 owners out there want the box badly. There are bolts and holes right above BB, but no one offers one. They are basically same bikes and frame has been same since 2014, so there are good number of them out there. Trust me. P2 and P3 are the best one to make.

Agree, the biggest problem is getting access to them for measurement and fitting. As it takes a couple of iterations of modifying the prototype to get it to fit right.

If anyone in the San Francisco Bay area, has one and would like to help me by letting me measure your frame, I will be happy to do so. If I can have access to a couple of different sizes, that's even better so that I may validate the box fits on the different sized frames.

I do have one friend who has a 51 p3 which I will try and measure this weekend.

For those with a p2/p3, here is what I am coming up with for rear box. I'm not super happy about the look. the problem is having the rear brake in the way. Would this be acceptable? Would having a box above bottom bracket be better? The problem with that solution, is that that you wont be able to have water bottle where the braze ons are.

Also, can someone provide a picture of the area near the rear brake, looking at it from behind? it appears that there is a bolt above the brake.

The one I did for the Argon 18 E117, fits on the E119 as well, although the 119 I did a test fit on is smaller than the 117. The new box I'm printing tonight should fit on both sizes. Please indicate frame size and length of back of seat tube from top of top tube to top of chain stay so I can validate.

Agreed, but I may have a solution behind the seatpost which will look much cleaner once I have a access to a p2/p3. I will be working on a above BB version of the box as well.

I did mock one up for the trinity. It's in the first post in this thread. Posted again here. The blue and red one is from the Cervelo P5 for reference. However without physical access to one, I can't validate it.

And thanks for the compliment. Been fun working on this little project, gives me an excuse to look at more bikes.

+1 for the felt DA..would love to be able have a small version where I can screw it into the existing bosses which were made for using di2 battery befind the straight seatpost..just large enough for co2 and tube and could still fit with my bts bottle bracket.
Will shoot a picture tonight.
Or start with the bosses and mold down toward the wheel like u currently have set up..
Again will shoot a picture

Most people use BTA bottles and you can have water bottles behind the saddle, so above the bottom bracket is the best location IMO.

That's the rear brake mounting bolt. It holds the caliper.

There is a bolt there, and it's not the mounting bolt, but it's obscured by an Omega which leads me to believe that's not going to be a suitable area for mounting, since much of your target market will be using those. I think it'll have to be either just on the seatpost (like the IAx) or go for the BB.

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that speed, for lack of a better word, is good. Speed is right, Speed works. Speed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

You’re right. With the tri rig brake a box won’t fit there. Guess I’ll work on the BB box instead

Great work on these!

But i must admit I'm totally baffled by how all the major companies (except trek, myabe felt), neglects this. It should be standard to be able to buy one of these for your tri bike. Is there a patent thing involved in this?

Cervelo NP3 pls.

There's plenty of space above the brake if you are using a side pull brake like Shimano durace/ultegra. I can provide laser measurements for my size 58 frame.

I've thought about it, but it becomes quite hard to match the curve there. Also, the box becomes too deep and you cant get your hand all the way down to the bottom to grab whatever ends up falling into that "crevice"

Please private message me with your email address, full name so that I can email you when the box is done.

Final prototypes completed for Parlee TTiR sizes small and large. Going to get those 2 sizes printed by service bureau. Unfortunately, the size small bike is being picked up by customer tomorrow, so I won't be able to test fit the production version. I will be be able to fit the production version on the large though.

Now to find a size medium to test fit on.

Nice work. Now I would just need a bike to fit it to...

I've been pondering making similar things for my own road bike (too esoteric a model to worry about more than 1-off production for). Tailfin, rear triangle filler, bento, and bottom bracket storage.
I can CAD pretty well, and have access to a 3D printer, but with all the compound curves I figure it would just be easier to custom form it somehow to fit perfectly.

My current thought path involves clay/putty modelling a solid mockup, silicone pouring a mould, and maybe shush casting (outside chance vacuum forming) into the mould. Alternatively, cutting pieces out of rubber sheet and bonding together.

Either that or spend many work hours on DIY... Maybe I need to find a 3D scanner...

I just finished the bottom bracket box for the P3 this week. Below is the final prototype on a 56 p3.

Note that it won't have the lines that appear on the picture. The surface is actually smooth as shown in the picture below for the bb box for p5. Both the 54 and 56 are finalized. I need to test fit the 51 and 58. Fortunately, I have access to a 51 locally but don't have access to a 58 locally, but am working with someone in North Carolina on the 58.
Will have the production versions to show in a couple of weeks.

Any progression with the Trinity box?

I was able to locate a Trinity this past weekend and measured it and designed a box yesterday and printed it overnight.

I'm going to be test fitting it on the bike in the next couple of days and expect to have something ready to ship in about 3 weeks.

You can preorder it at https://custombikexcessories.com/...ike-rear-storage-box and use coupon code: birthday for $25 off the box.

Just wanted to say that the box is perfect for the P5. Great for long days in the saddle, and not having to shove a ton of spare tubes, levers, and co2 in your jersey pockets. Great job, Yann!

There are so many P2 and P3 owners out there want the box badly. There are bolts and holes right above BB, but no one offers one. They are basically same bikes and frame has been same since 2014, so there are good number of them out there. Trust me. P2 and P3 are the best one to make.

Hello all,

Lots of you over the past few months have asked me for a rear storage box solution for the Cervelo P2/P3. I kept saying that the rear brake is in the way. It turns out that one of my recent new cycling friends has a 54 P3, I was looking at the rear of his frame, and started thinking about the rear box for it again and decided to take some measurements off of it.

Below is the preliminary design for it. Note that it sticks up a bit above the seat clamp so that there is a bit of extra room for storage. On a 56 and 58 this will not be necessary.

I currently have access to a 54 and will be measuring a 58 tonight. But am planning on finding a 51 and 56 bike to measure.

Let me know if you are interested in purchasing a rear box for your p2/p3 and I have setup a preorder page https://custombikexcessories.com/...orage-box&page=2

The preorder price is $20 off regular price of $200, ie $180 US dollars.

I would love to have this rear storage box, but I have Tririg Omega X brake on my P2 size 51. I just looked at it and I don't think this box will clear the bracket.

You are correct, it unfortunately won’t work with the omega x brake.

Hi Yann, did you manage to measure a 56 P2/P3, I couldn’t work out if the rear boxes are available for a 56 on your site or not.

Thanks

What's the typical width of the back side of the box? Is it wide enough for a Garmin mount for a Varia Radar unit? If not, maybe it should b ;)

Will the Speedbox for the P2/3 work for the P3C? If not, any chance you'd be willing to make one for a P3C?

Someone else was interested in a box for the premier tactical, but I believe it was a small. I usually need at least 5 people committing to purchasing a box for a given bike for me to design a box for it. Alternatively, I can design one, a one off, but the price is substantially more than the normal $200.

I'm afraid the box for the p3 will not fit the p3c. The rear of the frame is different. All boxes I sell are designed for a specific brand/model/size. None are unfortunately interchangeable due to the fact that every brand has different seat post shapes and rear frame shapes.

The width at the rear is around 12mm. to accommodate a rear garmin mount, I'd have to integrate some kind of cylinder sticking off the back of the box and attach the actual mount to it. This would have to be specially designed to work with the garmin mount. I just threw this together really quick to show what it might look like.

I’ve got a preliminary design for the p series but don’t have easy access to one to test fit a prototype on. What size is your p series and where do you live? If you are in the US, I can easily work with you to prototype and finalize the design

Not a reply to you specifically, but I'll put in a plug for working with Yann to prototype and finalize a box.

I contacted Yann earlier this year asking if he could make a rear box for a Plasma5. I'm not local to him and he didn't have access to a Plasma5 so he asked me to take some simple measurements to start prototyping. Over the course of about a month he made and sent me four prototypes as we tweaked things to get the fit just right. Once the fit looked good he made and sent the finished box and I've been riding with it since.

So if you're looking for something that's not on his site then it's worth asking him about it. He was a pleasure to work with, great customer service and attention to detail.
