Picking the right doctor
Having a lingering foot/ankle issue that I am now looking to seek some professional help to heal. I think it is posterior tibial tendonitis but hopefully the doc can confirm this. Either way, what is the best direction to go with this? Should I go see my general physician, a podiatrist, or just go find a good sports PT place and skip the doctors office? Obviously this does depend on my insurance but would like to make the least amount of doctor appointments as possible.

Also, anyone know of any good places for me to go in the Baltimore/DC area?

I would go to an Orthopedic surgeon that’s fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery.

Not sure how your insurance works, but usually you have to get a referral from you primary doc first, so you probably have to go that route to have it paid for eventually. The trick is to know who you really want to see, then convince your doc to refer you to that person, or at least the category they practice in..

Thanks! I may take you up on that if I need a second opinion. I found a good sports doctor in Westminster, MD so I'm going to see him next week. Crossing my fingers it's something that can be healed quickly.

If I'm reading my insurance stuff correctly I shouldn't need a referral but my online account also shows I have two different plans so who knows. We'll see how it goes and hopefully they can take me next Wednesday.

An experienced sports doctor for the win! When injured my primary doc refers me to a sports doc in my network that also works with local MLB and NFL players. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable and knows what is debilitating and what can be worked through. When I ruptured my plantar fascia he commented on how lucky I was that I didn't go to a podiatrist as their general treatment plan would have caused long term problems.
