What's your setup for watching live Kona coverage?
First: All the best and a huge thank you to the team(s) running the Live feeds in Kona. You always do an awesome job and the broadcast is truly appreciated. To all the commentators...I always wonder how you so capably fill a 10+ hour broadcast with what feels like such a compact team.

For the first time in a decade I will be able to watch the race in complete solitude without competing obligations or distractions...what a treat!

Wondering what setups people have...for me it'll be:

Apple TV set up w/ Red Bull Live Coverage (assume this is a go this year again...anyone?). Dropped a few times last year but nothing to complain about.

Laptop setup for Live Tracker Map (this was really cool to follow last year as it was giving more accurate splits than the live feed).

iPad running the live written feed from Ironman.com

Any other suggestions out there with other feeds / options? It's just too bad they couldn't provide a recording / replay of the whole event.

Will try to ride the trainer for a good three hour session to be able to enjoy a few beers in the cold Canadian climate without guilt.

Enjoy everyone!

There is no Red Bull coverage this year. Facebook Live is your only option.

NBCSports doesn't run a live feed? Literally just Ironman coverage on their website?

It will be on NBC Sports in the US still. Everywhere else, the only option is on "Facebook Watch": facebook.com/ironmannow

My setup will be laptop streaming facebook watch (I'm in Canada) while doing my trainer workout; then I'll move to the living room where I'll watch on my TV streaming through my xbox. Tablet will have the Trirating 2018 report handy for reference (if you haven't seen this, check it out at https://www.trirating.com/, amazingly comprehensive report)

Do you have info that the live coverage won't be available for replay on the Ironman now Facebook page? The 70.3 Worlds coverage, among other events, is available to replay there.

I'll be watching the FB feed on my laptop. I rarely ride inside, especially if I wouldn't get wet outside, but I'm seriously considering doing a 3-hour ride on the spin bike in the basement while the pros are on the bike so I don't miss any of the live coverage. I plan to run before the start.

That's a total bummer...was really convenient last year (and they could conceivably have two sponsored athletes as Champions)!

Sending the little one to the in-laws for the weekend so we can watch it without hearing, "Daddy I want juice!", "Mommy play with me!" or "Daddy I am bored watching this", etc, etc.

We plan on connecting her laptop to the TV and using Facebook live. I will use my laptop to chat with friends who are watching it and surf the web.

I usually just watch on my MacBook Air, but now you all have me thinking I should plug it into my 60" high def TV. What exactly do I need in the way of cords to do this? Fairly new tv, so it should have the basic jacks, so my computer to a TV cord is what I need? You guys are my Geek Squad...

Yes, just select the HDMIx "channel" in your TV where X is the number of the HDMI in. You'll see that number where you connect the cable in the TV

Whenever it's on TV, I'll set the DVR, skip all the commercials. I can wait. Don't even think I saw last year's coverage at all. I think I've checked in on Ironman Tracker the next day, but the last few years haven't been watching it. Except the winners--it seems like the same show over & over, melodramatic blah blah. Like the Tour de France, I DVR it, watch in fast forward x 3 (or 4), stop when there is a crash or break away.

So I looked into the big bin with all my cables, and I was so excited to find an 8ft HDMI cable, only to have my hopes dashed when I could not find a port for it on my MacBook Air. Do you have one on yours, and if so, how old is your computer? Mine is about 3 years old..SO what do I do now?? Do they make an adapter to go from apple to HDMI??

I'm not against them showing this on Facebook, infact I'm all for it!

Nothing worse than pay per view sport, its prety much ruined my interest in MMA, Boxing and football as I refuse to get Sky or BT sports....BUT.....

They need to do a better job than they did for 70.3 Worlds, Ali Brownlee was a red pixel at one point!

You will need a Thunderbolt adaptor. I use the same on my Mac and it works perfect. About $10.

Monty, I'm not an Apple guy but I'm pretty sure they don't have HDMI ports. They have a different port and you need an adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/...8W0WQ81KH80PDNAMK5DH

Those time zone references and days are incorrect. EST is 6 hours ahead of HST. Not behind. Nothing on Friday. So Sat. at 5:30 am HST is Sat. 12:30 pm EST.

I looked at the NBCSN streaming lineup. It’s states coverage starts on Sat. at 12:30pm EST. No run or end time is listed. So I’m not sure if it’s just the start and/or highlights throughout the day or full blown coverage. But good find if it’s full coverage since this is option two for non FB users.

Yes. It’s called a mini display port to HDMI cable.
It basically takes your computer screen and mirrors it onto your tv. Just switch tv input to whatever HDMI port you are in.
I use this for my Zwift so I’m biking on the 65” screen not the 13” lol.
I’ll try to attach a pic or website for it.

Good catch. I should have said sat not Friday

So do you think that will be the actual live coverage?

I found the link to the app on the official IM website

ok help me out. I should have everything I need but have never watched it live on the big screen before.
I have an iMac with adapters and cables to hook it up to the TV.
On the TV I also have a PS3, all the cable channels available, Amazon Prime video etc.

So where do I find the live coverage and what is the best option to view it?
Tech help please.

Yes if it’s on the IM site that’s a safe bet. IM must have just added it. Up this now they stated that FB was the only full coverage option.

I’m at a hotel for work over the weekend so I went out and bought a Fire Stick.

Just tested it. Added the FaceBook Watch app, logged in, added IronMan Now to my favorites and watched a couple of Quest episodes.

Works well and they’ve already set up a ‘bookmark’ for live coverage.

Will be nice to watch on a regular TV.

Funny how it’s going to be easy to watch with all screens except for the big one you’d want to watch it on. An actual television.

Are the Ironman folks trying to keep viewership low? Figuring out how to watch couldn't be anymore confusing. If I had not read it here, I would not have figured out the coverage is on Facebook. Even the Facebook page doesn't say when coverage starts Saturday or even that there IS coverage. Right? What am I missing?

No it's not, the German television channel ZDF have a live stream from 18:25 CET and then show the race on television from midnight. I think it's the only television channel worlwide to show this race live, has been for years. So, as I'm in Germany this is my set up :-)

A German channel is not a worldwide option.
FB and the NBC Spotts App is.

Unable to stream from ironman on the US VPN so facebook the only option - which means NO TIME SHIFT. I'd have got up at 3am if I'd known in advance, but since I didn't a very frustrating day, fcking facebook really took the pleasure out of some otherwise excellent racing (we won't dwell on the commentary...)

FB Live worked well for most part. The cutover from part 1 to part 2 of the broadcast resulted in the feed not working for anyone for a few mins and towards the end of the race the live feed would visibly cutout but the commentary would be still audible. All in all, this worked well.

Oh yeah and a huge fuck you to NBC for cutting the broadcast out after 2 hours and showing an antique car/tractor competition instead. What in the actual shit...

Next races on the schedule: none at the moment

I watched it successfully for a while, then had a huge fail when I tried watching it while riding Zwift. I was getting in my last 26 out of 112 miles to be in the drawing for that Shiv. It simply wouldn't run both at the same time. It was early in the marathon, so I got my Zwift miles done and then got back on the facebooks when I finished. Anybody else finally get both running at the same time?

So, the Facebook live feed peaked I think at 60k...which is crazy when I think about it. How do those numbers not get you at least 4 hours on a network? That's sellable.
