I was just reading the announcement of IRONMAN wanting to partner with Breck Epic "to create North America's premier mountain bike race": https://www.postindependent.com/...-mountain-bike-race/
In today's climate of cash-strapped municipalities, would you agree or disagree that IRONMAN is going way too far with what they're asking from each of these communities where they're hosting their events?
These are the in-kind requirements they're asking from Breckenridge (taken from the IRONMAN presentation on the Town Council website): http://www.townofbreckenridge.com/...howDocument?id=13539:
"HOST COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION:
-3-5-year contract
-Cash Component
-Annual Cash with 3% inflation escalator
-As an Official Destination Partner, your financial contribution goes towards covering some of the logistical expenses of staging the event in the municipal region as well as assisting with the broadcast media costs to help ensure that the event and host region get the best coverage possible both locally and internationally.
The event organizers will be working closely with the local organizing committee. Assistance with the following VIK services is required from the host community:
-Police service and public works (Route/Traffic/Safety)
-Town/municipal services and infrastructure(downtown finish)
-Medical services: Local and Regional Services
-Permitting and Resident Community notifications (print, radio, direct mailers, and news etc)
-Waste management
-Volunteers: Volunteer Director and 1000 plus volunteers during race week.
-Hospitality: Provide daily VIP location for Ironman to provide VIP experiences (Riverwalk, Theatre)
-Media/Marketing: Provide secure working location
-125 Room Nights for media and organizers"
Does Breckenridge really need IRONMAN?
I know these types of agreements have been in place for years in various markets, but isn't it time for IRONMAN to start paying to produce their own events?
