All the showering
Just started a training plan with 2 workouts some days in preparation for Steelhead (it's a long training plan; i need a long time to train!).

How in the world does anyone manage to get in 2 workouts a day? What do you do? One early in the morning, one late evening? Or some sort of super-brick every day?
And - how do you deal with all the showering that comes with it? I'm good with just a quick rinse after an evening swim, especially knowing that I'll be back at it early AM the next day, but that just doesn't work for a run or bike. Do you just shower twice a day, and deal with the extra time crunch? Are there any good shampoos etc that are gentle enough to be used 2x a day, but strong enough to clean off the grime of a solid run?

Have gotten overwhelmed with the logistics of it all!

My most often scheduled 2-a-day is a swim and a run. When I know I can fit the swim into "noon swim" I do the run first and then do the swim (I am lucky to have VERY flexible work hours most of the time). Not ideal but cuts down on showering. However, there are plenty of days when I land up showering twice, in which case I try and use baby shampoo for one of the washes.

I only rinse my hair if it’s too sweaty and only shampoo maybe once a week. If my head isn’t all sweaty, then I don’t even get my hair wet when I rinse. Shampooing your hair every day is not good for it.

As for the logistics, AM and PM workouts.

Is it totally bad/ gross to not wash your hair with shampoo after a swim? I find frequent shampooing makes my hair feel like straw, even with conditioner. I’m just starting to get back in the pool . (I’m growing out a “crop”) where I never used shampoo.

I tend to do two sports back-to-back. I shampoo my hair every other day.

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine
If you're injured and need some sympathy, PM me and I'm very happy to write back.

You'll figure out your system as you go but here's mine:
I double a few times a week, usually early morning and early evening. Very occasionally I'll sneak in a lunch workout.
I shower after every workout, even if it's just to rinse off sweat / sea salt. I shampoo after I pool swim and use only conditioner the rest of time. I keep a body wash in my bag that's all purpose. I also have emergency dry shampoo at my desk.
My hair is the longest it's ever been so it's taken some adjusting. Now, I towel it off, use a "beach waves" spray, and then scrunch my hair up and let it fly down and curly or in a messy bun (both looks purposeful but are actually lazy).
At work, I wear minimal makeup but wear skirts, blouses, jackets and have very little leeway on attire.
Good luck!

Try products that are specifically designed for swimmers. I use a shampoo, body wash and lotion that are specially designed to remove chlorine from hair/body. I get it at amazon it is called "triswim".

Fantastic, thanks for all the tips!
I'd gotten in the habit of a midday workout (very flexible work-from-home job), but am going to start saving that for the one-a-day workout days. We don't get a lot of sun here in Chicago, especially this year, so I don't want to lose that!

I do wash my hair after every swim, even in the pool. The color was fading really unevenly from the ends of my hair because it stuck out under the swim cap. I use a shampoo for color treated hair now, but also really like the swim ones mentioned above.
