Real quickly...I have a phone interview in about an hour with a Company that I have been really interested in working for. For cyclical and political reasons, the Company has not been doing that great for the last couple of years, but is historically strong. The Company was saddled with a shit load of debt by it's PE owner and it broke today that they will be filing for bankruptcy protection.
This likely kills the deal for me, but I still intend to take the phone interview today and see what the deal is...
What would you want to know? Anything that would still steer you toward pursuing?
Let them do all the talking
Mention the news and let it go from there
I would want to know how a gun manufacturer could go bankrupt in The U.S. of all places...
You're so smart...
Ironic that a pro-gun President is the (well, at least an) issue.
If bankruptcy meant the death of a company we wouldnt have our current jackass in chief.
who's smarter than you're? i'm!
Throw out lots euphemisms during the interview.
Stuff about "going off half-cocked", etc.
And if bankruptcy mentioned, be sure to drop a "don't retreat -- reload".
Can't go wrong with that one.
Phone interviews fall under the 80/20 rule.
80% about you
20% for you
I coach all candidates to ask 2-3 questions about THE JOB, THE CULTURE, and keep it simple.
For example:
"walk me through the first 6,12, and 18 months on the job"
Followed up with,
"Mr hiring manager, how would you define success for this "X" role?"
Followed up with,
"Describe your company culture, please."
Make sur at some point in the interview to mention your LR screen name. They’ll love it.
