Today I learned that the second quarter of college looks like it’s going to be as dull as the first...

Luckily I’ve got two pretty fun math classes, and one of them I’ve necer had any experience in at all (econ 201, intro to macroeconomics) so that will keep me happy. The other one is calc 1 which I took in high school but want the review before slamming myself with the rest of the math classes I have coming. 1 day in and i’m already feeling like it’s going to slow. Oh well, review and gpa boost (:

And then English 101. Bleh...

LOL that's great. Funny Vancouver cab puke story:

Last year I went over for a hockey game. Brother in law and a friend scored box seats. I met a friend before the game, had a few beers, unlimited drinks in the box, a few apres... You get the picture. I never felt drunk, but, earlier that day I ran a hard 20k and didn't really drink much water.

The next day I was trashed. Was desperately trying to hold it together as we took mass transit back home. Nearly puked on the sky train, was holding my hand over my mouth on the bus through tsawassen. Missed our transfer for the last bus, and it being a Sunday we would be stuck for an hour and miss our ferry. I hailed a cab as I just wanted to GTFO the mainland at that point.

Anyways, I made it to the "welcome to bc ferries!" Sign before yelling at the cabbie to pull over and launching the contents of my stomach all over the base of the sign through the cab window as traffic whizzed by, people honking, etc.

I still blame the Canucks.

Long Chile was a silly place.

Its 1230 ish and I have just finished flushing hot water tank and cleaning out all the clogged aerotors (sic) of the sinks so 4 ladies can shower etc in am. Good times. TIL there are people who believe all fours tires on a car turn the exact same speed at all times.

I'm at the tire shop and a lady came in complaining that her valve stems were not all in the same position after she had been driving. Took a bit of convincing but she finally accepted the truth of physics. The guy at tue counter offered to line them all up again, but they'd be unaligned again when she got home.

Nice.

The guys at Discount Tire didn't look at me too funny when I asked them to line up the valve stem with the brand name.

Yeah, it's a pretty trivial thing, but if they got in the habit of doing it, a few people would notice the attention to detail.

I seem to recall one of the car restoration TV shows talking about how some manufacturer used to index the tires on some cars.

Wait. Just so I'm understanding you correctly: You're talking about the valve on the tire right? She couldn't understand that their positions/relation to each other, etc... would change after driving around?

Wow. What does she think happens when she makes a turn?

Bigger question: why would you even pay attention to them?

Thanks you. I couldn't come up with the term.

The Liberty code of conduct had me thinking that. And the first thing that popped to mind was "stirring" - no that can't be it.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

Yeah. Probably should have done that research in private mode on the iPad.

This does remind me though of some craziness from college. One of my best friends from HS went to a small, super conservative college back East. There was a girl from a nearby conservative girls school that they would hang out and “party” with that was really into staying a virgin until marriage, but would regularly engage in anal sex because that was somehow vastly different in god’s eyes. She was known around my friend’s school as “___ the ass____. “.

This story and some of the other ones he told us, that I later observed on a visit to be true, led me to conclude that a culture of sexual and social repression is a good way to create a bunch of maladjusted weirdos.

TIL about the infamous Barbados v Grenada 1994 soccer match, where first Barbados scored an own goal on purpose, then Grenada tried to follow suit due to a bizzare rule that said that the first OT goal is worth 2 and ends the match.

Since Barbados needed to win by 2 to move on, and Grenada only needed to lose by 1, Barbados (leading by 1) scored an own goal to try to send the match to OT. Not to be outdone, Grenada then needed a goal (any goal) to prevent OT. The result was the odd sight of Barbados defending the opposing net.

TIL how the Chicago Bears got their name, despite their being no bruins in Illinois.

They originally played in Cubs field (now Wrigley) along with the Chicago Cubs. They choose "Bears" since football players are bigger than baseball players. The Cubs got their name because they often had a roster full of young, inexperienced players. They had also gone by similarly veined names like the Colts, Seedlings, Microbes, Remnants, Recruits, and Sprouts, but Cubs would ultimately prevail.
