Tacoma, Wa Hotels/mini vacation

Hey all, just looking for some input here. I'm planning a little weekend-ish trip over to Tacoma next May for my girlfriends birthday, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to stay. If it helps, we'll be driving over Thursday morning, going to the Tacoma Dome at night, and then spending a couple nights afterward.

Not looking so much for activities right now, but any recommendations on hotels.
Right now I'm looking at the Silver Cloud on the water on Commencement Bay. The appeal for this is that its a 9 minute drive (without traffic) from the Tacoma Dome after the show. Looking at some of the suites and they're not cheap, but they definitely aren't the most expensive I've seen in the Sea-Tac area.

Because we won't be there too long, I'm okay with paying a little more per night than I usually would.

Anyone have anything better? :)

Back in the 90's, Ruston Way would get "sketchy" after dark. Not sure how it is now. You're kind of on the border of the industrial part of Commencement Bay. Some good restaurants nearby. The Ram or Katie Downs are my recommendations. Some good running in the area. The Ruston Way waterfront is right out your door. Point Defiance if you want trails. There is roughly 13+ miles worth.

If you are looking for something more "quaint", there is Gig Harbor. It's about a 30 minute drive from the T-Dome. Small-ish, (sorta) touristy fishing port like town.

The silver cloud is great and the views are killer so a suite might be worth it. They are building a new Silver Cloud a couple miles down the road as well but I don't know when it will open. The other option I would suggest would be the Murano in downtown Tacoma. Both hotels will be within walking distance to lots of food/entertainment.

Here are some places to eat/visit when you are in town:

7 Seas Brewery (downtown and Gig Harbor)
El Gaucho ($$$$$ steakhouse)
Primo Grill (6th Ave)
Lobster Shop (waterfront)
Point Defiance Park/zoo
Museum of Glass (dock street)
Gari of Sushi (eastside)

The list of good places to eat/drink could really go on and on. There are some sketchy areas of Tacoma but I think that helps keep the Seattle/Cali pussies away. I have lived in a lot of places good and bad, but Tacoma definitely has a place in my heart.

This is awesome, thank you!

I’ll check out the Murano and look into that as well.

And thank you for the food suggestions, I’ll look into those right now too. Especially sushi- we love some good sushi (:
(random side note-sugar fish in so cal- damn).

I’ve been around Tacoma a fair bit as i’m from the east side of the state, but always with my family. Always the one being drug around, never doing the dragging ;)
