Rolling back regulatory burden is the second obvious answer, both by EO and cabinet appointments/direction of federal agencies they're chipping away at many regulations passed during Obama's presidency.

Fighting for ACA repeal, even if he's a dumbass and Congress is full of snake oil salesmen he's at least trying to repeal the ACA.

Taking a hard stance on treaties and foreign relations, from NAFTA to the UN to Iran to N. Korea to China, he's been embarrassing in many respects with his tweeting and some public statements but his hardline approach has led to some foreign relations gains imo.

Reducing regulatory burden, business-friendly economy, conservative SC, hard-line approach to foreign relations...I don't support this president at all, I think he's a buffoon and an embarrassment to the office and has done irreperable harm to the role and expectations of a President and has created a far more divisive country than we had even a year ago this time, but on some big-ticket items he's done what I'd want to see done.

The SCOTUS pick is an odd thing. No precedent for blocking Obama's pick. Yes no president had a pick confirmed in the last year since whenever. But the opportunity it had not come up, so not very convincing. I'm also not sure what gathered wide support other than his position on abortion.

Until Gorsuch starts making decisions it is hard to know for sure where he lands. Roberts was a decisive vote on the ACA for instance. I think for the vast majority of justices they take their position as serious as it can be. Their rhetoric won't always match their decisions. So time will tell. But I doubt he becomes a Warren style justice.

I don't think a well thought out reform of regulations would be a bad thing. Just as intelligent tax reform would be good. It is sad we both know neither of those are ever going to happen.

I think you are giving him way too much credit on ACA. Telling congress to figure it out while you play golf isn't a very good example of "fighting". He hasn't done anything of significance to seriously affect ACA.

I'm fascinated with how conservatives are just fine with the way Gorsuch was nominated. A president was elected in 2012 on the understanding that he would nominate the Supreme Court justices for the next four years. A justice dies in the fourth year, and McConnell says "Let's let the people decide." Apparently, not the people who did, in fact, legally make that decision three years earlier. Then the election happens, and the people decide - 3 million more wanted a Democrat. But that still doesn't square with what McConnell was hoping for, so what he really meant was, "Let the electoral college for the next election decide." Add to that the whole nuclear option and I really think you have to give McConnell all the credit for Gorsuch. Something tells me if HIllary were elected, McConnell would have still found a way to get a conservative judge on the bench by bending some more rules. Trump was just a Johnny-come-lately to a party that was already over.

1.) Hillary Clinton isn't President. Not that Hillary is so bad for me. It's mostly everyone she would have brought in. We needed some executive level shakeup.
2.) The Republicans aren't really in power either -- they don't deserve to be.
3.) Trump is legislatively inept so most of his ideas go nowhere.
4.) Trump has mastered facing down the media and winning. It's fun to watch (for some).
5.) I like the EO limiting regulation, but I doubt that's a first order cause of the market being up so much.
6.) I would like tax reform. It's not a positive yet.
7.) Can he turn the corner on N. Korea? It's doubtful (<50%). Time will tell. Meh,we can always go back to just rolling over on every negotiation like every other President has done. So far I appreciate the effort on this one.
8.) Given what the Republicans were prepared to do, I think that the Obamacare vote went about as well as it could.
9.) I think the strategic if not purposeful "do nothingism" of Trump has been a relatively important factor in the market rising. I like the rise in the market.

I heard a BBC piece in the last few days that was very positive on Trump, and was about the reporter's interview with Afghan president Ashraf Ghani, and Ghani himself fairly gushed over the fact that Trump has given a commitment to stay with the work in Afganistan based on conditions on the ground. (It also mentioned the Obama surge and co-announcement of date-certain withdrawal, and how ISIS predictably just waited the time frame out.)

one thing I like is that Trump has repeatedly put our nigh unto worthless congress in the spotlight. Even as he does not do any actual "leading" on getting anything done (actually is usually an impediment), I'm just sick of congress ceding it's powers and responsibilities to the POTUS, various regulatory agencies, the courts, and local 4H/brownies/cub scouts or anyother entity in order to avoid making any somewhat controversial vote.

I'll bet that neither one of those ladies gets grabbed by the pussy anymore, at least from the Don. And they are both happy about that too..

I agree but still don't know Trump's policies. I have no idea his policy on North Korea, ISIS, China, healthcare or tax reform. He has made general statements and often contradicted himself (ie. China as a currency manipulator or a country that will assist with North Korea) but I've never heard any details.


For example, what is his plan in Afghanistan? Does he support the idea to support Assad to help keep ISIS in check? How is he going to pay for his general statement on taxes? Is he going to pursue healthcare and what is his plan to do that?

They don't have to be of course but for the last 8 years, the Republicans have demanded that any increase in taxes be offset with at least an equal cut in spending. A lot of the anger towards Obama, in fact most of it, was that he was increasing the debt to unmanageable levels. I can't count how many times I heard that Obama's spending is going to bankrupt the country.

A lot of the details are missing (of course) but my bet is that many in the GOP and their supporters, will stand behind this tax reform, even if it increases the debt. Just a hunch though.
