I mean that you really, really don't need (I have the best words...).

For some reason I want a log splitter. I mean, I don't even have logs to split but dammit, I want to own one of these bad boys.

I know I won't buy one. But whenever I see one I think, damn, I want that.

I would really like to get a drone, but people go absolutely bezerk when they see them. I understand why people resented them in the highly publicized news stories resulting from drone operators flying them where they probably shouldn't have been. But, there seems to be a widespread resentment among people I speak with just about anytime they see one or if they come up in conversation. It's as if their sole purpose is to spy on them or something.

Along the same lines as a wood splitter... I want a skid steer or a small tractor. I have no earthly need for one, and would almost certainly get insufficient use out of it. But I can't stop imagining all of the things that I would use it for; unnecessarily.

A nymphomaniac for a partner.

Recently, I have been jonsing to get my own dive gear. Just need the octopus and the bcd now...

Where I am, I would only use it several times a year and can always rent. But this thread is about what you want, right?

Also, a nice watch, which I would use less times than the dive gear.

My answer is the Fenix 5S. But I bought one. It was a huge splurge and I definitely don't need it - or even use it to it's full potential. But I love it and don't regret buying it at all (and I'm super cheap and often regret even moderately large purchases).

The next time I have a tree cut down and borrow one you are more then welcome to come over and split it. You can pretend it's yours.

A shed for my yard to put lawn and garden equipment. We have a two car garage we don't park our cars in although they would fit. It's not full of junk. The bulk of the space that is being used is mower, wheel barrel, assorted lawn and garden stuff. A neighbor mentioned they were getting one for that reason and ever since then I have imagined getting all that stuff out and building a work bench, tool storage area.

I know if I walked through Home Depot later today I'd come up with dozens of things I can't think of right now.

I need a 2" lift, 15 inch method MR502 wheels, and some KO2's wrapped around them for safer, and more capable overlanding adventures.

However, I don't "need" those to live my life currently.

But yeah sure I'll go with those ^^^

The allure is there for some reason. I wanted a smart watch and ended up with a semi-smart, semi-dumb one a couple of years ago because I couldn't beat the price -- less than wholesale cost on a Garmin Vivoactive. I loved it at first for the text/call/email notifications. I still love how it auto-uploads my basic ride/run data for me so I don't have to deal with that, although I still have to use my other Garmin for power data on the bike & look at that when I feel like it.

However, now I hate the smart watch. Absolutely hate it. I cannot stand the pop up notifications when I'm in the middle of a workout. I get a million of them between both email accounts, the phone ringing, texts, and app push notifications. It sucks. I also decided that I don't need the step/sleep data for any reason, so now I'm "unplugged" in a way and leave the watch in my catch all tray until I go to work out, leaving it in my jersey pocket on the bike or on a chair when I'm on the rowing machine. I don't need that damn thing buzzing and interrupting my joy. And now I'm on the hunt for a halfway decent analog watch, the plainer the better.

I've wanted a really nice, heirloom-quality casual leather messenger/briefcase bag for a long time, the kind made by hand in America with American-tanned leather, a classic design that's going to look better with some age and patina. The thing is, I have a really nice waxed canvas bag with beautiful latigo leather accents and straps, which will last forever, and I either work from home or am in an office environment where I don't need to carry a bag for anything other than my personal items & books, so my current bag is perfectly fine. I wanted a leather weekender for a while, settled on a really nice, gorgeous waxed canvas with leather accents and it's beyond what I could have wanted, though the briefcase in leather is still something I covet. So I'm soon to get one...cannot resist it for much longer.

And other than that, just a custom steel cyclocross bike. But that has some functional use since it would likely become my primary bike for road and occasional CX racing and because I'm extremely short with weird proportions, so custom geometry would finally get me on a bike that really maximizes the fit, not a bad thing considering the amount of time I spend on the bike.

In line with what you want, I kinda want a roto-tiller. I don't even do gardening any more than I have to, which basically involves digging up our hostas every 2 or 3 years and splitting them. It really is a needless want, and I won't get one, but every time I see a roto-tiller in the hardware store I'm drawn to it.

So much this.

I might actually get a Model 3 in 3-4 years when my current car bites the dust, as long as the kinks are ironed out by then. But man do I want a Model X. And as of right now I don't even have a friggin house to plug the car into so it'd make NO sense.

I also want a Rolex, even though I never wear anything but my $80 fitbit.

My list is long, I have a fully admitted problem. But currently....

I want to pimp out my boat! We bought a Maxum 19' runabout I/O earlier this summer. It is a 1999, the interior is in great shape but the outside is a bit rough, and it started life as white and purple so it wasn't awesome to begin with. I want to put a vinyl wrap on the boat to cover the faded purple and to match my truck. Then I want to powdercoat the white trailer black. This winter I want to put a wakeboard tower with racks on it. And last but not least I want a bumpin sound system! Speakers on the tower, subs in the boat, bluetooth head unit, the works!

All stupid, but still want it. The tower is likely a for sure this winter. Wrap and stereo are less likely, but doesn't mean I won't dream and try to find a way to justify it.

Also along the lines of a log splitter, I want a chainsaw. I've always wanted one, never really needed one. Growing up where I did, most of my male family members were in the timber industry one way or another and we'd spend the latter part of summer cutting firewood. Just seems a chainsaw should be in every mans garage.

Last time I used a chainsaw was 18 years ago cleaning up after hurricane Floyd. A bunch of us volunteered to assist in the clean up of a scouting camp (girls or boys, I don't remember which) in Franklin VA. Lots of toppled trees, spent a whole day just cutting away. Twas magnificent.

If you want a drone, get a drone. No reason you should really upset anyone. I have been using mine on a lake recently, videoing my kids skiing and wakeboarding (and getting some great video!). I flew over another boat last weekend and worried for a moment they would be upset. They thought it was cool and kept waving at it. I didn't stay near them long and I think as long as you maintain a respectful distance from other people (and especially their private property), it shouldn't be a big deal.

If you're going to get an expensive one though, have in mind a purpose for having it. If you just want to fly one around, get a cheaper one.

I want a chainsaw.

My wife bought me a new Jonsered 2252 last year, to replace my 30+ year old 510sp. I cut a few cords of firewood every year.

The new saw is awesome! It's like comparing a new bike to a 30-year old one; just about everything works better and is lighter.

More power from the same displacement, broader power band, less vibration, lighter, more fuel efficient, and so on.

Works great for dropping trees on the neighbor's power line!

It's all relative ... I was braggin' on my new saw to my neighbor who is a paramedic/firefighter. He one-upped me: they have the same saw on the fire truck - with a metal-cutting blade. He says it's pretty fun unzipping a SUV with it. Pretty damn noisy, too!

I have a friend with a 50 acre farm that a couple times a year I will help him cut up some trees. I really enjoy doing that. Great stress release after tax season. I keep thinking that since it isn't my property then it isn't a chore.

Should also be interesting going up there in a couple weeks since he just got a new toy. A big tractor with an attachment that will carry a two ton log. Should be fun.

I went ahead and got my splurge toy last year(drone) and will fly it when not using the chain saw or splitter.

Tap water. Don't really need it if you have a good well where you can hand pump your daily needs in water. Grew up without modern plumbing, but it is nice to have as an adult. Refrigeration is a close second, but I really put that in the need column. I would much rather pump my water and have a refrigerator than the other way around. Cooking on wood/coal was pretty easy in comparison to the changes that living without refrigeration would require.

Just about to start finishing off my 25m lap pool (actually started work on it today, concrete shell finished ages ago)
Except mines better than that because I built a Launtner edge pool :-)

Something I really want but don't need...... it tends to go back and forth between a Lexus RCF or GSF

I have myself a guitar and amp. I've had it for years. I have zero music talent and have only strummed the thing maybe 3 times. Don't you dare try and take it away from me.

As far as things I don't currently have or need but desperately want, I'm going with a private, hurricane-immune island in the Caribbean and a personal jet to get there. (There might be a sale coming up next month, if I'm interested in a fixer-upper.) If that doesn't pan out, I'd take the island in the Pacific.

I'd love to have a log cabin in the woods. When I was growing up my grandfather had a cottage on the lake near Algonquin Park in Ontario. There were 2 cottages on the property, one being a small log cabin. Our family had the chance to buy it about 10 years ago but we didn't and I've regretted it ever since.

I'm moving back to Ontario in January and would love to buy some land and then build one. I'm moving to a small town on one of the Great Lakes so maybe my time is coming...

Is 3m 2 lanes or 1 lane? I was thinking 25Ă—2Ă—1.5-ish

I think it is complicated by poor access and terraces

Yours is very impressive

Insulation and cover were a given

I was thinking shocrete

I need to meet the architect

Lots of food for thought. Shame i do not have the skill to diy it like yourself

3m is ~1.5 lanes, so more than enough to have a couple people swimming up/down the pool at the same time

Mine is shotcrete. Don't forget to discuss with an engineer about an expansion joint. 25m is a very long unbroken concrete structure.
I have a joint mid pool and that is the minimum I would try to get away with.

Started working on finishing the damn thing yesterday. Lots of crap stuck in the edge drains at the moment. Will be quite a few days of just cleaning them out before anything else.

If you have any questions, just ask!

A big honkin' expensive, cool watch. I have thin arms and it would look ridiculous on me. A super high end $10000+ super bike (I am not taking this shit to the main forum :-) ) Every time I go to Home Depot I want to buy tools. Lots of them. Don't need 'em, wouldn't use 'em but it would be cool to have 'em.

I own a chainsaw which I bought when an old apple tree fell down in our garden last year. There are a grand total of 4 other trees on my suburban property, including the new tree I planted to replace the apple. My wife thinks I'm nuts. I would like to say that it does at least get a fair amount of use being loaned out to friends with minor tree surgery needs, but it turns out that most of the other suburban dads/husbands are like me and also just go and buy themselves a chainsaw at the slightest opportunity. I guess we're all wannabe woodsmen!

Afraid it's a fairly base model plug-in Black and Decker chainsaw though, I really couldn't justify anything more serious...

A real actual combat worthy sword. I have no practical use for one and the couple of wooden practice swords I have are fine for doing just that, but I would love a real Chinese Jian.

Is that the same as a Greenie Meanie? My college roommate had one of those and I found it scary to ride.

He used to call it a "two-cylinder three-stroke"; always made me laugh.

Green Meanie was the 750 racing bike used to win Daytona but became the nickname for all the triples. The first gen 500 was without a doubt the scariest of them all, wicked fast, had horrible handling and drum brakes that were marginal at best..lol

I'm pretty sure my roommate's was a 500 - definitely not a 750. Yes, I remember way too much power and no way to turn or slow down. Another thing my roommate said about it was "It doesn't have a power band, it has a power point."

I only rode the damn thing once or twice and fortunately had enough sense to stay away from it after that. The canyons around Boulder were no place for a bike that didn't handle well, especially for a novice rider like me. Fortunately my roommate had several bikes and usually loaned me his CB750 or RD350. Good times!
