Anyone think he will attack them? Think they will attack Guam? This seems like the two idiots in charge will just keep escalating. I hope they just saber rattle rather than actually start taking shots at eachother.

I don't think anything will happen unless North Korea strikes 1st. It will be all talk until then. Shirley Kim Jong Un isn't that stupid. There is no way his regime survives a war with the US. I also think if they strike 1st there wont be any country left that would support NK...

I am hoping China steps up its game with them and forces them to knock it off.

North Korea is not going to do anything. They are saber rattling and that is as far as it will go. The problem is America loves war and we will gladly invade a country for no good reason.

North Korea has had nothing but whackjob leaders for decades. We cannot predict what Kim will do. It would be a big mistake to assume that he's sane/rational/predictable. He has absolute power in a way that we cannot really imagine. That kind of thing seriously messes folks up. People get convinced that they are gods, that they cannot die, all sorts of crazy shit. We'd make more money hoping that there's some reasonable folks in the layer or two below Kim. What we really need is for some senior NKPA general to off Kim and then open the border to the South.

The solution to that is to create a reason.

We should all be thankful there is someone like Trump in the Whitehouse to make these kind of decisions...

Yes, I'm sure North Korea is going to invite nuclear annihilation by attacking Guam.

Yes, it makes perfect sense they are going to attack Guam which is probably 100x harder to hit than South Korea which is basically a duck in a barrel and 300x more populated.

CNN has become unwatchable just like Fox was during Obama.
I actually find Fox a better source these days except for Hannity. Now that is unwatchable

I like Trump's saber rattling. It puts Kim on notice that we will match crazy for crazy.

It also forces China to get their asses to the table and now.

No one can afford a full blown war, diplomacy has to be the answer...or some amazing clandestine assassination.

Man up? He made a threat if NK continued to threaten the U.S. The NK immediately threatened the U.S. Trump did nothing.

If you pull that sort of pussy move in prison, I think you find yourself bent over in the shower like 2 minutes later.

Similar to Obama's "red line," except dumber because it was obvious in advance that NK would continue to use the same threatening propaganda they've used daily for decades now. You only say that sort of thing if you're 100% sure you don't lose face.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kim blow himself up. Unfortunately a lot of other people will go with him. This will not be a hold your fire assault . The US must ensure total destruction of all Kims weapons as fast as possible. I think most Americans( including myself) are in denial that this would actually happen.However.. Human error could trigger it at any moment. There should be major protests right now demanding a deescalation in tensions.... along with sanctions on China to step in and stop this shit ( what the fuck are they thinking?). War should not be an option with all we know about it . Can the planet even sustain that much more crap being released into its so very thin and delicate atmosphere? We are sitting back like this could be a cool internet thing to watch..like some video game, “Nuke the Fucker” , but in reality , the human suffering and damage to the earth will incredibly outweigh any positive outcome.

IF and some will claim it's not an "IF" but a when.
NK does have the ability to strike Guam, Hawaii or the west coast USA. It's a choice of regional stability or protecting the US. Not a good decision for who ever the president is what that happens.

China is the one that could step in and take control of the situation better and have endless good will, politically if they were inclined.

Trump has really boxed himself in with this quote,

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States, they will be met with fire, fury, and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before.”

He didn't say the U.S would retaliate if NK attacked, he said they would be met with fire and fury if they make another threat. They did make another threat a short time later but Trump didn't respond. I'm happy that Trump is all talk and no action but he is doing exactly the same thing as Obama when he drew the red line in the sand.

There's a difference between being spineless and comments that will only escalate things.

These are not the only two options.

We could show force with our Air Force, Army units stationed in SK, preposition our Naval Forces and our Marine Expeditionary Units and not have the POTUS say things that will only serve to escalate. (Speak softly, carry a big stick)

We could also not insult our best potential ally in China and understand how culturally China and NK view the world- Trump's presidency is hardly a blip in their view of time and his words are of little consequence. Actions speak to them culturally, words just annoy.

Suffer Well.

My point exactly: he threatened him. He didn't apologize to the little fat kid in North Korea. Yay Trump. He didn't draw that red line in the sand. Wasn't that a false threat that Obama made and didn't have the fortitude to back it up? I think that maybe we now have a president that will back it up. We no longer have a coward leading us who apologizes that we have a strong and great military. We no longer have a president that wants us weaker.

Smart people don't make threats that they know that can't follow up on. Sure he has the power to follow up on that threat, but everyone knows that it's empty because we aren't going to attack North Korea because of something their leader says. It was a stupid comment by a stupid man.

I like how the narrative is quickly shifting from Trump to the Trump administration...at least in this post, an adult is responding but it is far from the language used yesterday.

You must be outraged by Tillerson's comments as they seem quite different than the fire and fury of Trump and quite a different tone than Mattis;

..."Only hours before Trump's tweets, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson urged calm and said Americans should have "no concerns" despite the exchange of threats between the president and North Korea. Aboard his plane as he flew home from Asia, Tillerson insisted the developments didn't suggest the U.S. was moving closer to a military option for dealing with the crisis...

Perhaps - and I'm just floating this idea out there - liberal Americans don't actually want a weak America. Maybe there's a chance you're simply misunderstanding what they do want.

Just a thought.

Not at all, I think its brilliant, especially considering who we're dealing with. On the other hand, I assume you'd have preferred him to say "buckle up fellow citizens...fair warning - we're going to war"?

Maybe he could even forewarn the North Korean leadership and tell him when and where we will hit first. You know, kinda like what has happened in the past.

You're right...its a non answer. I don't know why liberals think how they think. Matter of fact, there are a number of things I wonder about but have no answer to...such as:

I don't know why liberals...
...believe you can take away guns from the citizens, therefore, prevent crime.
...believe that you can discriminate based on race as long as it benefits the minority.
...believe in big government.
...believe in high taxes.
...believe in limited free speech.
...believe that the solution to every problem lies in government programs.
...believe we should have single payer healthcare.
...believe that competition is unfair.
...believe that the environment trumps people.
...believe that we should be internationalists and care about what the rest of the world thinks about us.
...believe that its good to be hostile towards Christianity.
...believe that policy should be directed by "feelings".
...believe that the government can better raise our children than us as parents.
...believe that society is responsible for individual actions and not the individual.
...believe in the welfare state.
...believes in social justice.
...believe that wealth and success is bad.
...believe that the government should regulate everything. EVERTHING.
...believe that business is evil.
...believe in complete tolerance.
...believe that you can fight terrorism with law enforcement policy.

I could go on and on and on. Can you answer these wonders?

That is a great question, and one that I and many others have wondered about over the past 8 years.

My guess is that rather than try to learn whether your presupposition is correct, you'll continue to believe that liberals want a weak America precisely because it makes no sense, and thus gives you an simplistic strawman to parade out and theatrically debunk when you need to demonstrate that liberals are both irrational and weak.

I'll answer as a weak libtard.

1. Unleash full cyberwarfare. Take down their Internet.
2. Park at least one full carrier fleet offshore.
3. Advise Japan, South Korea to go into full defensive posture.
4. Start regular overflights of surveillance craft.
5. Start electronic warfare (jam the shit out of NK)
6. Put bombers in the air continously.
7. Wait for the phone to ring, so real negotiations can begin.

I'm not there yet. Because there are serious risks. But that's how you do it when you want to go there. You don't huff and puff and strut at a golf resort, then immediately expose yourself as an idiot.

Here's a good summary of (some of the) options:

Quote:
1. Prevention: A crushing U.S. military strike to eliminate Pyongyang’s arsenals of mass destruction, take out its leadership, and destroy its military. It would end North Korea’s standoff with the United States and South Korea, as well as the Kim dynasty, once and for all.
2. Turning the screws: A limited conventional military attack—or more likely a continuing series of such attacks—using aerial and naval assets, and possibly including narrowly targeted Special Forces operations. These would have to be punishing enough to significantly damage North Korea’s capability—but small enough to avoid being perceived as the beginning of a preventive strike. The goal would be to leave Kim Jong Un in power, but force him to abandon his pursuit of nuclear ICBMs.
3. Decapitation: Removing Kim and his inner circle, most likely by assassination, and replacing the leadership with a more moderate regime willing to open North Korea to the rest of the world.
4. Acceptance: The hardest pill to swallow—acquiescing to Kim’s developing the weapons he wants, while continuing efforts to contain his ambition.

Let’s consider each option. All of them are bad.

Suffer Well.

I can't. And I never suggested I could. Frankly, I think there's very little causality between the two.

I merely pointed out that you're insisting liberals believe something irrational so you can call them irrational. You're the one who insisted there's some link between liberals and a weak America. I'm sorry if you can't defend your point. Just retract it if you have no reason to propose it. You spoke in haste. It's not a big deal.

They stood by the Democratic party come hell or high water. When the Democrats threw up the worst candidate in US history they just followed along allowing the corporate loving war loving sold out Dems run straight into a brick wall of stupid. They ignored their base and ran to the mythical moderate Republicans and worthless independence who saw straight through Hillary's bullshit and put Trump in office. I put the full blame for Trump winning on liberals.

Random bullet from your list: "I don't know why liberals believe in big government." I doubt whether there are any liberals whose goal is to somehow increase the size of the government. What's more accurate is to say that if the nation can be made better a way that requires an increase in government size, then a liberal is less likely to object to it than a conservative.

There, now you can actually have a discussion about an issue.

To me, what I find extremely distasteful was his use of the phrase "as the world has never seen"--twice! When I heard him use that phrase my mind immediately jumped to the events at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. You can bet that was his intention in his little mind.

For the President of the US to evoke those events in a public threat was un-presidential, and in horrible taste. He's basically saying "remember what we did to Japan? That was nothing!"

I agree with you 100%. We have a team that has never really governed before. That is a large part of Trumps allure. It still is. He is an outsider. Its a breath of fresh air. I wish we could rid Washington of every politician up there...republican and democrat. The only was our government will ever change is term limits. And that will never happen. Washington as a whole wants Trump gone. He is a threat to the system.

On another note, isn't it cool how a JV team is showing the last administration some "how to"? I'll take this JV team over the more experienced Obamas, Clintons, Pelosis, Reids, Schumers, etc. any day of the week.

Actually, what you are doing there is going against common sense and rational process, as well as the way things are done in almost everything other western democratic country. The U.S. has decided to go it's own way on many of these issues, while rejecting tried and true policy, and legislation that works well in many other countries around the world.

Take health care - every other western democratic country has some form of universal healthcare. These systems are delivered with lower costs per-user, with better outcomes than the U.S. system which has one of the highest costs per user in the west and overall outcomes that are middle to back of the pack! So do you truly want a better healthcare system with lower costs, or do you want to continue to do it YOUR way?

I couldn't be on here all day. I actually have a business to run. Something you and the other liberals know nothing about and would prefer to destroy.

I'm a liberal, and I own and run my own business. I know many liberals who are very successful entrepreneurs and business-people. What makes you think that we don't run businesses or are successful in business?

I didn't say a liberal couldn't be successful. I mean, look at George Soros - he has been successful at something. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Al Gore. All successful. I know a liberal who has a very successful contracting business - he made a fortune going into places like Ferguson and rebuilding what his own party destroyed.

If you took Trump out of the equation, I would agree. He is the stumbling block.

Today we had Tillerson telling everyone to ignore the President and listen to the adults,

Not at all, I think its brilliant, especially considering who we're dealing with.

So you strongly agree with this message from Trump;

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen."

And you strongly agree with this message from Tillerson,

"Nothing that I have seen and nothing that I know of would indicate that the situation has dramatically changed in the last 24 hours," he said, adding that "Americans should sleep well at night."

Are you at all surprised that some people think there is a JV team in the Whitehouse?

Aren't term limits just big government taking away choices for the people? In a government for and by the people shouldn't people be able to choose who they want. Republicans supposedly want small government at the local level until someone does something at the local level they don't like. Term limits are the same. Why should you restrict my choices? What good does that do? Isn't that actually increased government regulation? I thought republicans were against that.
