Cycling in Phoenix / Scottsdale
I have a weekend trip coming up to Scottsdale in the first week of June.

I'm hoping to arrive a day early on Thursday and ride 60-80 miles before our festivities start.

1. Any LBS suggestions where I can rent a bike for the day? I ride Cervelo S5
2. Could use help on a good route to ride. Hills are preferable.

Thanks!

Check with Moxie Multisport in Scottsdale, I'm sure they can get you set up with a bike and provide a route or group ride.

Rent a bike from these guys:

...and ask them to give you the route to Bartlett Lake (or use Strava route planner or heat map). From their location, it's about 70ish miles and 5,000 feet of climbing. In June, start early (better to arrange an early start before the rental shop opens) and bring lots of water. You can get water/snacks at the Bartlett Lake Marina shop if it is open.

Moxie said they don't rent bikes!

McDowell mountain cycles in Fountain Hills. Great road riding right from the shop and Nice trek bikes in the rental fleet. Ask for Marty or Rob.

Ride up through Cave Creek and Carefree down to Bartlett Lake. It's quiet with a fantastic descent and climb back up.

I was in the area for business last week.

Rode from the Royal Palms Resort to Phoenix South Mountain Park after work one evening. Enjoyed the experience of going from an urban to a park setting in less than an hour. Plenty of good climbing in the park.

Rode from JW Marriott through Paradise Valley towards McDowell Mountain Park on Saturday. A good suburban ride with plenty of open road on smooth, wide blacktop. With more time, I would have liked to continue on into McDowell Mountain Park.

I can send you my courses if interested. However, I hacked both together on Garmin the night before each ride. I'm sure the locals would be a better source of more refined routes.

Ps; riding in the morning is infinitely more pleasant than the afternoon when temps >105.

Yes. It's a highway with a large shoulder (b line) you can get to it via normal roads that make up the course. Bring tubes. 3 or 4 if you stay out on the b line. Less if you go back into Tempe. Gas station at McDowell to fill up if you need it, or McClintock and mckelleps.

Supported training rides the 23rd of sept and another day in oct. lmk if you have any other questions

Would you recommend parking just off the B line? Say if I just wanted to stay away from TTL area and away from the traffic.

Unfortunately the gas station there changed hands and they do not let people park there now. You could park out in fountain hills at the target on shea and go from there.

I think the In and out of Tempe is ok and can be mentally more challenging.
