Any rec for TV speakers/soundbars for a treadmill?
I'm looking for a not-so-expensive speaker setup for my garage treadmill so I can have my wife use the treadmill without resorting to bluetooth headphones.

I myself love my BT headphones, but my wife dislikes them enough that she won't use the treadmill/TV because of them. (She's a 'normal' person, meaning she's a sporadic runner at best, so anything I can do to make it easier for her is good.)

I was looking at some soundbars on Amazon that were about 100db, wasn't sure how loud Id need to go. Ideally, it would be loud enough that even I could use it myself (I typically run 8-10 min/mile on my TM).

If anyone is happy with their TV speaker setup for treadmill, use, throw me the recs!

Anything >$50 will be enough sound to hear over a treadmill without terrible distortion.
I'd suggest getting one with BT so it is a little more flexible. If your TV is wall mounted, get one that can bracket into that mount so that it swivels with the TV.

There is a Vizio around $100 that gets really great reviews. Spending more will get better sound, but you won't hear that benefit over your own breathing, let alone the treadmill. If you'll use it outside of workouts, consider better models/brands.

Curious if anyone else has any real-worse use situations with either a soundbar or other audio setup that does not require BT headphones to listen to TV while running on a TM.

I've killed 5 BT headphones in the past 2 years, of 4 different brands including Jaybird!

My treadmill has built in speakers for you ipod etc and they actually work well... I have a 12 foot aux cable I run from the laptop / tv to it OR to a set of headphones... I also put a 70$ sounbar on the TV from bestbuy the house brand insignia it works great and they are usually on sale for a lot less.

I've never tried my built in treadmill speakers, but I'd honestly rather just go with a soundbar or speakers since I sweat so much onto the TM console (through the speaker grilles) so I don't even want to bother.

With your $70 Insignia soundbar, do you have any problems hearing 'soft' movie conversation while running, say, an 8min mile? How loud do you typically have to crank the volume? If it's not too crazy, that would work for me.

ours is pretty loud I will be honest for soft movies and conversations I almost always use the headphone setup. My wife always uses the soundbar and has never had any issues understanding a show or movie. However, its in the basement and with the door closed I can still hear the movie up stairs.... I had never used the treadmill speakers either but the other day my headphones came unplugged and the speakers took over and I was presently surprised it was like having the sound bar 1 foot in front of me.

Cool thanks. That's interesting regarding the TM speakers - I will have to give it a try given your results!

I use an old set of powered computer speakers, point them towards myself on a shelf on the wall and I have no problem hearing over the treadmill.

Most Goodwill/resale stores have piles of these for 5$ now that computers and monitors have built in speakers.

Cool - what pace are you running or what pace does it get hard to hear them?

I just setup our new treadmill last weekend. I have an iPad that is used for entertainment, and that is connected to a 27in monitor that I mounted to the wall in front of the treadmill. They are connected with an HDMI cable (there's a lightning to HDMI adapter that Apple sells.) The monitor I have has speakers in it and the HDMI cable sends the sound to the monitor and there's no way in an iPad to select something else. So I have a short male-male headphone cable connecting the monitor to the treadmill. Added bonus is there are nice big volume buttons on the treadmill so you can change the volume while running easily.

All sounds great and easy to use.

Do you find that the Dunkin Doughnuts iced coffee is a good pre / mid / post run fuel? I find it just makes me have to piss and gives me the shakes but......

I can tell you're not from New England - it's spelled Donuts ;)

I was actually setting everything up still when I took the pick. Not that I would be opposed to some Dunks iced coffee at the aid stations.

You are correct sir, from the PNW. Might not be bad. I saw a guy putting Tim Bits ( Tim Horton's***** Donut****** holes) in his special needs bag for IMC. I was a bit jealous and plan on doing that this year..
