Official TrainingPeaks Thread

OK I have been trying to keep up with all the questions and comments in regards to TrainingPeaks so here it is. The "official" TrainingPeaks thread. Any questions related to anything TrainingPeaks (New, Classic, WKO, Mobile apps, Device Agent, etc...). Hopefully this becomes a one stop like the Speed Concept and other "official" threads. Fire away and I'll try to keep up, if I don't know I'll try and find out!

This is sort of only a little official as I don't really work there :)

Some of the functionality does exist but you still need to create the ATP in the Classic version. Once created you can view it in the week summary.

WKO 4.0 release date? I know it's been said that it will be released before the end of the year, but can you be more specific? Seems like if it is actually out by year's end, then there ought to be a date that you're shooting for.

I should have put a note in regards to release dates. I don't know anything other than what Gear posted online in June. If/when I do know I'll post an update.

If you open a support ticket they can unlock your license. If the data was synced with TrainingPeaks online you'll be able to resync via WKO or login to TP online and download your history.

In general I've liked the new Beta version while I've been using it over the past few months. One issue I've had with the Beta version is the choice in measuring swim distance. I liked the older version because you could choose between yards or meters while you were adding a workout (it had a little drop-down menu). This was helpful because I swim regularly in both yard and meter pools. The Beta version doesn't seem to allow me to make this change while I am adding a workout.

I know this isn't a huge deal, just wasn't sure if there was a solution I was missing.

It is in the pipeline. The new version uses the option you choose in your profile (Imperial or Metric) and applies it globally but the ability to change individually per workout is on the map.

Hi Rodney,

I've got a good one for you - I did a duathlon the other week, and I *thought* I had my Garmin watch set in multi-sport mode, but in fact it was in Run mode. So when I uploaded the watch data, the whole duathlon showed up as a run. A few days later, I get an e-mail from Training Peaks congratulating me on my new Run Threshold limit of 3:43 mpm (formerly 7:30)!

Of course I immediately signed up for Kona, and look forward to turning the Queen K into a molten strip of lava with my new running powers and finishing 90 mins in front of the Pros!

But now it seems my training hasn't quite lived up to TP's expectations (still awaiting the blood work results to confirm why this is), so I'm wondering: Is there a way to re-set my Run Threshold limit manually back to something closer to (as in, exactly) what it was before my stunning run performance of averaging 3:15mpm for the middle 11 miles of the race?

Thanks for your help,

Brian

Yeah you just need to reset your Run Pace zones. You can enter your former pace and it will recalculate your zones based on that. Click on your name in the top right, Settings, Zones, Speed/Pace and enter the old per mile pace.

Then scroll all the way to the bottom of Zones and uncheck the box to Automatically apply new threshold changes :) Keep the email checked so you get notified but just apply the actual performance improvements :)

Too bad about Kona!

Thanks, Rodney. Those Zone #s look a little more reasonable now.

TPs is awesome, but a little tricky to navigate when you need to get under the hood. By design, I presume.

Take care,

Coaches edition in the "new" training peaks.

When I click on the icons on the left (athletes, workout library, etc...), I get a blank cell and nothing comes up. It is all missing. When I am in classic mode, it all works perfectly. Please advise? :-)

I can't find where we can save the run or ride into a route we have established, maybe its highlighted but I can't find it.

You have two options, if you have the files or can get them from Strava you can do a bulk import - http://help.trainingpeaks.com/...sting-Data-into-WKO- or if you were syncing the data with TrainingPeaks you can re-sync http://help.trainingpeaks.com/...ingPeaks-data-to-WKO

When you get your laptop back you'll have to submit a support ticket to have them re-activate it http://help.trainingpeaks.com/...on-another-computer-

No this hasn't ever existed. There are HR by Zone and Peak HR charts as well as various run pace/speed charts that you could sit side by side. There is an option coming for custom HR based charts but I am not sure what that means.

Right now the only way to move athletes between coaches is to detach and then readd or for the new coach to send the attachment link and for the athlete to accept it. There is a new feature coming called client groups that will be adding improvements such as the ability for a head coach to drag and drop athletes between the assistant coaches. There is no ETA on that right now but hopefully it is not too far into the future.

Its rather annoying I have to go back and forth.

Releasing a half-functioning version is worse than waiting longer for a fully functioning one while switching back and forth between them while development and de-bugging continues.

Is there a way in the new training peaks to:

1) Access messages to / from my coach? I keep needing to go back to old style for the message function

2) Easily see on any given bike activity the various sensor data highlighted? On the old TP in any given activity in the chart section I could just hover the mouse over the power data (or cadence or HR etc.) and it would show just that which is much easier than the new system where I seem to have individually hide and then un-hide stuff.

3) See power balance (question whether the metric is useful but leaving that aside) without having it clutter up the activity details by inserting an unreadable R (or L can't remember) only power underneath the main power curve?

4) There will be lots more questions.

Check out the efficiency factor of the workout or interval of interest. It's only available on the map & graph screen. It's average pace / average HR.

So if you are getting faster on zone 2 runs, that number should increase.

Add a metric to a day and you can enter weight there. I don't have a Withings but I believe that is what it is supposed to do.

1. All comments you enter are under Post Activity Comments. If your coach responds there rather than replying to the email it generates, it will be there too.

2. You can hover over any point in the activity graph and see the data at that point.

If your laptop is wiped that usually means all the data is lost. You can reinstall WKO and have it reactivated by contacting support. Then you can download your history from Strava and import into WKO or if you were syncing to TP you can resync.

Re 1 - Old TP allowed for messages from me to coach and vice versa outside any specific activity - so for eg a general discussion on how things were going are chatting re a specific event target. It seems now that TP only caters for activity / post activity comments?

On 2 - the usefulness of being avle to hover and see just that metric was that you could more clearly see the trend. so in your pic example while i can get specific details of a point in time values it's harder to see the details in the trend across just power for the activity as they are buried behind the other lines. Old TP let me hover the mouse over the power axis on the LHS and while I did this it would show just the power graph. This now seems to be gone?

re 4 - :)

Several questions:

1. How, if at all, does one create weekly goals and weekly comments in "new" mode? I can still do so in "classic" mode, but I'm stumped figuring out how to do so in "new" mode. If it's not currently a capability, can it be added? I rely on both of those.

2. When, if at all, will "new" mode allow one to add a note related to a metric? In "classic" mode, I can input a note next to weight, which I use to record my hydration. In "new" mode, there's no ability to add a note.

3. When/how will TP and Garmin work out a way for folks like me (and I am sure I'm not alone) to get my 910XT swim workouts and my Edge 500 bike workouts into both TP and Garmin Connect? Right now, I am able to, but I'm on borrowed time, relying on Garmin to continue supporting their old (non-modern) web site. Garmin wants me to uninstall ANT+ Agent and use Garmin Express to get my Garmin workouts into Connect, but if I do, I can't get my 910XT swim workouts into TrainingPeaks, because TP's Device Agent relies on my ANT+ Agent to read my 910XT workouts. Right now, I have to upload my Edge 500 workouts to Garmin Connect through their classic (not modern) web site. When Garmin stops offering the classic version of Garmin Connect, I'm screwed -- I will have to choose to either not get my swim workouts into TP or not get my bike workouts into Garmin Connect.

You can setup Garmin Connect to automatically sync your files over to Training Peaks. https://home.trainingpeaks.com/garminconnect

Then when Garmin Express uploads your swim to GC, it will automatically be sent over to TP.

So, if I have this right, first I upload everything to Garmin Connect, and then it automatically gets sent to TP via AutoSync, which I authorize once, and then works automatically after that. Sounds great, but... does the AutoSync function in TP.com rely on my having ANT+ Agent installed? Or will the AutoSync function work with Garmin Express installed and ANT+ Agent uninstalled?

The last time I tried to uninstall ANT+ Agent and install Garmin Express, I lost the ability to get my swim workouts into TP. Are you telling me that's fixed now?

Yes, once you make the authorization everything will be automatically sent from GC to TP (via Garmin Express) from that point forward. I don't have a 910 but I do have a 500 and a Forerunner 220 and all I do is plug in the two devices and within a minute, everything is sent to GC and from there, to 3 other sites.

Garmin fixed Garmin Express which originally did not save the workout files locally. Now you can upload to Garmin Connect and AutoSync to TP via Garmin Express and you'll still have the workout files local if you need them. TrainingPeaks gets the data directly from Garmin Connect.

Appreciate the answers, but when I went to add Hydration Level and "Note" to my metrics page, it went great until I tried to "Save" or "Save and Close." Trying either kicked me out of that page entirely and onto a different page that wanted to know when I bought my last pair of shoes. I tried to modify my metrics page a few times, and no go. There's a bug that prevents me from saving my modifications to the metrics page. The functionality will be really nice, when all of the bugs get worked out, but you can count me among the many who wish that TP had not moved to a broken Beta. Actually, you can count me among those who mourn the loss of the original Classic (the one that preceded the version that is now called Classic, but our voices were drowned out long ago). Thanks for your help.

The problem with relying on auto-sync is that it doesn't do it in a "smart" way so I can't use it (thus am avoiding new GC and still using ANT Agent and manually uploading stuff to TP).

By non-smart I mean that, for example, on days when my training schedule calls for say a 90min turbo session with tightly defined power targets etc. I do that session but I also still do my normal commute (say 45mins each way) to and from work on the bike. Now that commute doesn't actually feature as a planned session on TP (clutters things up too much and is usually done more as a recovery session) but I do want the data in TP. So, when I upload things to GC if I have auto-sync on I sometimes get the commute loaded up into the planned turbo workout file and the turbo workout just loaded as an unplanned session. It offends my OCD sensibilities! It seems (but isn't always 100% consistent) that if I do the commute earlier in the day than the turbo then the commute goes into thh planned session whereas if it's the reverse then it generally works out that the turbo session goes where it should.

Any work arounds as it would be nice not to have to do it all manually and just let auto-sync work but ...

AutoSync passes through the FIT file the device uploads to Garmin Connect. No file, no sync. It does work differently with other apps based on how they implemented it.

Thanks I figured it was something like that, Strava I don't think syncs either so probably also uses the FIT files, myfitnesspal seems to get it manual or activities from a device.

For the past few years I have recorded swims with a 310xt. For pool swimming, this was basically a stopwatch.
I recently upgraded, now I get much richer information.

When I upload it to TP, I now notice that only "swimming time" is recorded in the summary. E.g. if I swim for 1h15, only about 55mins is actually moving time. I understand that this is because TP uses this time to calculate sTSS (which I barely use).

I would like it if the full 1h15 was contributed toward my weekly totals rather than just the 55mins. This would then be consistent/comparable with the previous few years on TP and also my records pre-dating that. Is there a way to do this, or will there be?

Better swim metrics and data collection is on the roadmap. Right now you can edit the workout time manually after it syncs. It won't re-sync and overwrite your edits.

I don't think it will I went back and modified the time on an OWS and it didn't. Personally I think sTSS is at best a good guess, a better than nothing, as opposed to TSS and rTSS and have never been too concerned with it.

I feel the same way about sTSS, I don't use it myself but I asked it for the benefit of others who might. I presume that one day they will figure out a better way to calculate it and provide a way to update the historic results.

Meanwhile I will do it as you say. I was so excited about the automated upload procedure... (920 to phone to Garmin connect to TP)

I have used TP for the last few years with no problem. This new beta, now going live, does not work for me. I've opened a couple of trouble tickets and only get what works for most people...my wife uses my Garmin's - 500, 910 or 405. She only wants to see her numbers on Garmin Training Center but it now uploads her workouts to TP...then i have to manually resolve. She is not tech savvy and will not create another account we have to logon and use, we have too many already for all the various places we touch.

In the past i would upload the workouts that pertain to my coaches instructions review results and make comments. Done in a couple of minutes.

This new process requires more time and is not as functional...looks pretty though. Is there a way to minimize my effort/time on this? Can i keep the old interface?

I asked on the trouble tickets for someone to call but have not heard from anyone and no resolution through TP normal channels...sorry to broadcast here.

If I understand your issue correct You can disable AutoSync with Garmin Connect.

How do I disconnect the AutoSync from my Garmin Connect™ account to my TrainingPeaks account?

If you need to disconnect your Garmin Connect™ account from TrainingPeaks, you can do so from your settings in Garmin Connect™. Open My Profile and click on Account Information. Scroll down to the section labeled Applications and click on the Remove Permission link next to the TrainingPeaks connection.

If that is not the issue please explain further.

thanks for the quick response! the initial issue that forced me to auto update were manual updates that would not load in beta. when i attempt to upload files it either sits or errs especially with larger files. i would move back to classic and the uploads worked perfectly in a few seconds. TP Help could not resolve without auto update. i use a mac with the latest OS and Safari updates as well as the current version on the Garmins.

For multi device, multi user scenarios I think you are best served with Device Agent. It allows you to control which files are uploaded to which TrainingPeaks account from your Mac (or PC)

Thanks again...but, i really do not want to add additional software and interfaces for me to manage & maintain.

I just want TP to work with the same functionality it had in the classic version and allow me to upload my files. If you want it to look prettier that's fine but don't change the basic functions that allowed it to work. Is there a time frame for correcting the code in the new version so i can upload tcx files like i did in the classic version? Or, is that no longer an option?

The new version is easier than the old. You simply drag and drop the workout file onto the TP calendar.

I'm confused now as to what the problem is.

Rodney just wanted to update and say I accidentally found the way to make it work, I've only done it once and maybe it was a fluke but well it sync'd a manual workout today from garmin to TP.

In modern to manually add you can either click the + on the activities widget thing OR once in the listed of activities that looks like how the old version of connect showed them you have the manual add or import buttons at the time. By selecting that manual add you get a much more detailed form for the manual add. For example I was adding a swim this morning and that had a box for pool length and after having put my yardage in with with it showed how many lengths were done, not that I care just neat.

Anyway I saved it as usual to go manually upload to TP and sure enough it was there already!

I have nothing else to add at the moment so I haven't confirmed it but will do so in the morning and update if needed.

It is not drag and drop - beta times out when doing this with tcx files. Tried it with fit file and it does not have all the information of the tcx file.

But, did not mean to confuse you. The simple answer is the 'upload' button in beta should allow users to upload tcx files just like it does in classic.

Let us know when this beta bug is solved! Thanks

FIT is preferable to TCX from a data perspective but TCX files upload fine via Drag and Drop, the Upload button and Device Agent.

Other than downloading a course onto a device TCX files in general aren't anything special. TCX files are bloated but that's not because they contain more data.

It works with the Modern version but not with Garmin Connect Mobile manual activities :) That said the mobile app properties are limited, maybe the Modern app is doing something different.

That would require one of those not windows phones so haven't tested mobile at all :)

I'll retest the quick add next manual work out to see if they updated something overall or if it still only works if you go to the activities screen then add vs the widgit add.

Not sure if this was mentioned already.

I just looked at a bike workout and while looking at some lap data I noticed that it says "Pwr. Bal. 51.7/48.3%" which I would assume means 51.7% left, 48.3% right. However, when I look at the same data in GoldenCheetah and Garmin Connect, they both say 48% left, 52% right.

I checked another workout and see the same thing.

TrainingPeaks Athlete Edition

Can someone explain to me exactly what this does? I have been using WKO+ for years, but don't know if this online thing has anything to offer me. Is it only for if you are using a trainingpeaks coach? I am looking for something to just help me organize and plan my upcoming season.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff

From what I understand WKO is a lot more in depth. The basic athlete edition is effectively a calendar with the ability to upload workouts and get a simple look at the data, not much different from Strava or Garmin Connect. The Premium Edition adds a whole bunch of analysis options as well as some other extras.

At a guess I would imagine using WKO for analysis and Training Peaks Basic for planning would probably have you covered.

A fair bit of WKO3 has been rolled into TrainingPeaks. You can use each on their own or together. TrainingPeaks is online and has mobile apps and can sync to your calendar (iCAL, Google, Outlook, etc...) and/or get email notifications of tomorrows workouts. There is a good comparison of the two here...

We don't use the planning calendar at all since we have our own and i'm only interested into analysing data ..

The question is, do i have to buy 2 version of WKO+ for both of us ... or with one version i can add as many peoples as i want ?

Thanks !

Rodney, Thanks for offering help on ST....

I have an issue where I cannot upload my bike files (TCX format) from Garmin connect to Training Peaks BETA. I have used the same process for years...Save file from Garmin Connect to my computer hard drive as TCX file, then upload to specific workouts my coach puts on TP. I seem to be able to upload run files, but not bike files. I get an error message after about 15 seconds of attempting to process. I can switch to Classic and upload without issue, but not in BETA. Any ideas?

I am not using the auto-sync.

Thanks again for any help..

There is a problem with large file sizes. TCX files are ridiculously bloated. As a comparison a 1hr run (GPS and HR) is roughly 3MB in size vs. 84kb in FIT format and I have bike files into the 20+MB range for 3-4 hours with HR, CAD, PWR and GPS. Regardless it is known and if you are stuck because your device only outputs TCX files there are three workarounds.

Garmin AutoSync
Device Agent
TP Classic

You just need to add one Daily Metrics entry and it will use that. Add a manual activity, under Add Other select Metrics, add a weight and save.

Excellent! Thanks for your help. Couple more questions though...

If I add a new metric going forward will all the calculations be based on the newest metric? It seems the data will not be accurate if this is the case as the calculations for all my previous power files will be based on my current weight and not the weight I was when I did a specific ride?
Quote Reply
Re: Official TrainingPeaks Thread [noxious] [ In reply to ]
Its based on the weight for that time period, not the current weight.

If the last weight I entered was 70Kg and I go out and ride 280W it will calculate 4W/KG based on that weight. If next week I enter 69Kg it won't go back and recalculate last weeks ride but if I go out and ride the same 280W ride it will calculate a higher W/KG for that ride.

You can set a time period for the Power Profile (it defaults to Dashboard time period) and see trends over time.

Hi,

I finnally bought WKO 3.0+ ... i love it !

Only problem i have is, when i downloaded my girlfriend data (running and biking) with the device agent ... the performance manager graph showed some weird TSB value ... (high tss score and very low tsb)

I found out it was the RTSS value from some of the trainning run she did that raised the TSS score ..

For an example: Run1 : 8.8 km ... 38 min ... 4.42 NGP ... average pace was 4.45 min/km.

The RTSS score : 258.5 !

Is it normal ? i find it very high ... she told me it was a 85% ride for her and she would be able to go for a bike ride without problems..

If we hit this value after a bike ride .. we are very exhausted..

Any metrics or setup i should check ?

Thanks

Ensure that her run pace zones are set correctly. You should never hit a rTSS that high for a one hour run :) You can set the zones with a recent 5 or 10K race effort or use the guidance in here to set them.

Is it possible to add your training zones as a chart to the dashboard page and add percentage of ftp to the chart? Seems clunky to have to go to my settings, view my power zones, and then manually calculate percentages (since workouts are typically described as a percentage of ftp) in order to build a workout properly.

If it's not possible this would be a great feature to add.

Given the team developing it and the time they have spent I suspect it will be special.

Has anyone had similar issues with the new TrainingPeaks?

Issue #1: I've tried uploading files from my Timex Ironman Run Trainer 2.0 to the new version of TrainingPeaks, but it will not load. It simply continues to try to load the file with no success and does not end until I click cancel. When I switch into the classic version, there is no problem loading the files at all.

Issue #2: In the new version of TrainingPeaks, all of my prior bike mileage disappears, but when I login to classic mode it is still listed.

I would love to use the new version, but the classic version does not have these issues.

(1) I go into the TP calendar mode and add a workout. I click bike and then attempt to load the file.

(2) Under the classic version, I uploaded my bike workout in the same manner as (1), but I would have to manually input the mileage after uploading the file. When viewing the workout in the new version, the bike miles disappears both from the weekly totals and from the individual workout when opened.

So I am assuming a few things since it is a Run Trainer 2.0 and you are needing to manually input distance you are riding on a trainer? I'll check on the upload problem but in the meantime can you try something?

Upload the data file either in Classic mode or with Device Agent but don't add the distance. Switch to the new app and add the distance. Does that work, does the mileage stay?

Also try opening an older workout and add the distance. Does that work, does the mileage stay?

Yes, your assumptions are correct.

I did upload a bike file in classic mode, but then switched to the new app and manually entered the distance in. It worked, where the mileage stays put and is reflected in the weekly totals. It also works when I go to older bike workouts and enter the mileage in manually in the new app, where the mileage stays put and is reflected in the weekly totals.

OK so aside from the upload issue what you are seeing is the behind the scenes workflow. In the new app when you upload a file and edit the workout the file isn't really processed until you click save. So while you are uploading and then adding the distance when you save it the file is processed and that overwrites the manual entry.

It's a bit of an odd situation and not a typical use case but it has been passed on.

I'll keep you up to date when I hear about the upload issue.

Where on TP web site can I find the exact difference between a "premium" account and a "Basic" Account? As a coach with only a few clients at the current time, I am being hit pretty hard under the new pricing structure. (doubling my monthly fee). Where can I see the things I would be missing if I had all basic clients. Basically, what functionality would I lose and would my athletes lose if I dropped all the premium folks down to basic status.

Thanks,

It is listed here...

In a nutshell the athletes lose the Premium features (PMC, some charts, calendar sync, etc...)

The coach loses post workout notifications for Basic clients.

edge 500 TCX

This is not a problem when exporting run files in TCX from a 310

Edge 500 saves it FIT format doesn't it? How are you getting TCX files off a 500? TCX file uploads are a known issue, the file size of TCX is huge compared to other files and there is a problem with those currently. Three options...

1.Use FIT files, Edge 500 defaults to this
2. Use Device Agent to upload
3. Upload to Garmin and use AutoSync

PS it's not a problem with run files because runs are usually shorter and I'm assuming you have a power meter, cadence sensor which adds tons of data :)

When I save them through Garmin training centre it saves them as TCX, I assume this does the conversion?

With the Edge 500 plugged into your PC/Mac you can simply drag the FIT file right off the device and into TP and bypass Training Centre. It is a known issue with TCX files and the new TP where large file sizes timeout.

I've also been seeing as issue with TCX files and Device Agent.

I got a Polar M400 in a post Christmas sale - when I download the TCX file from Polar Flow and upload via Device Agent it contains the time and distance but no GPS track (although it records the start and stop point) or pace data, presumably why it calculates zero rTSS score.

If I upload direct from the Training Peaks app it uploads all the data without a problem. Obviously I can just keep doing that but given that it's the same file it seems a bit odd.

Hopefully there will be a push from Polar Flow to TP at some point..... don't know whether that is down to Polar or TP to sort that one?

So the same TCX file uploads with no GPS/Pace via Device Agent but works fine if you upload direct to TP? Do you have the latest version of Device Agent (3.0.93.14)? If DA is up to date and this is happening I'd suggest contacting support, this is odd!

The issue is as you describe and Device Agent is up to date.

The direct upload shows this file compared to this one via DA. Same source file.

Note: not actually for Rodney since he doesn't actually work for TrainingPeaks, but if someone who does is listening here's my 2014 Christmas list (yes, I've been thinking about this for a while)

Feature Request/Enhancements for Premium Accounts:

- When I upload a run activity it automatically calculates things for me such as NGP, which is a great metric. Unfortunately, I need to go back and use the elevation correction tool to ensure that my data is more accurate. I would expect that the NGP would be automagically updated. Instead I have to click upload and then recalculate to get the elevation relevant calculations to update. It would be excellent if I could set the "Elevation Correction" to automatic and it would use that data for the relevant metrics. I'm guessing most people haven't even noticed that the NGP doesn't update after doing an elevation correction (hopefully I'm not imagining this!).

- My coach prescribes several interval workouts via the description block. It would be nice if he could develop the workout in a similar fashion the the Garmin Connect Workout Builder and Sync that back to Connect in some fashion. After that information is in the site I would upload my activity and it would sync back to TrainingPeaks. TP would then see that each activity "lap" coincided with a given workout step and would pair the data against that effort. I could see in one quick glance (greens, yellows, and reds like the workouts) how I did on each effort. With the ability to automatically sync runs to runs, bikes to bikes, etc. I would think that this is a good logical next step! Sure there's some difficulties here, someone decides to hit the lap button a couple more times after the workout (then he's an idiot!), someone doesn't use the workout feature and screws up the laps (another idiot!), etc. but I think that something of this sort could be worked out!

An option to enable automatic elevation correction has been suggested (by me and others) and I believe it is under consideration but NGP goes update when you apply elevation correction if/when it actually changes.

As for part two that might be difficult but you can suggest ideas here http://peaksware.uservoice.com/...ks-customer-feedback

Done, submitted a request.

I'll have to keep a closer eye on the elevation correction, but I swear the last few times I've had to manually recalcuate the workout. Maybe I'm jumping the gun before it updates in the window?

The colors relate to workout compliance, as in how close to the planned time/distance you completed. http://help.trainingpeaks.com/...lored-workouts-mean-

You can upload directly to TrainingPeaks using either Device Agent or simply drag and drop the activity file into the TrainingPeaks web app.

Time splits will show up if they were recorded by the device.

Thanks for the quick response. The link you gave me explains what the red, yellow and green colored workouts mean. What does purple mean? I have 2 rides that I did this week. One is purple. One is green. Both were completed 100%. Why are they different colors?

I'll download device agent to my Mac. Can I then turn off the Garmin Connect Device Agent? I'm assuming they are different...

I'm having trouble seeing my swim splits in TP after they've been transferred automatically from Garmin Connects. How do I find them?

If you have uploaded data but the workout is still purple it means you didn't enter a planned time/distance. If you have Device Agent you still need the Garmin ANT Agent to copy files to your Mac. You could also just enable Garmin Auto Sync which will sync your Garmin Connect to TrainingPeaks.

If you expand the activity you will see the splits and rests as you hit the lap button on the device.

Sounds like your garmin is splitting the mult sport into 3 files. You can choose to have it saved as one file if you wish. On the other hand you can plan your bricks as different workouts for each sport, then your current settings would work fine

OK, that is why it uploads as Other. Because the Garmin doesn't have a pool swim mode it tags it as Other. The only thing you could try is to manually upload it via the upload button in the swim activity on your calendar.

Strange that Myfitnesspal and Strava have had no issues the last while.......

My *favourite* was when Trainingpeaks blamed and AWS outage for downtime *before* they moved to AWS.

What exactly caused your issues I do not know.
What I do know is that there was a period of 2-3 days with regular outages, complete outages. AWS was blamed.
A few months later a huge deal about moving to AWS was made. I chuckled.

Rodney - whats going on with TP? I let my long subscription lapse as I felt the beta wasn't ready to go live and was missing huge features. I had intended on resubscribing when the feature set caught up with what it was, and maybe even caught up with the dashboarding of Garmin Connect and Strava. but it doesn't look like anything is happening? Or at least at a non-glacial rate.

Is there a road map for when TP will meet feature equivalence with the older version?

I would go through and find locations again and send on screen shots but the normal version of TP has none of the features enabled to check whats missing.
Hence me relying on release notes for updates on progress - of which there appears to be little to be honest.

On the dashboarding again the normal version is totally crippled so cannot do screen shots but its worth checking out Garmin Connect dashboarding capabilities as TP was so so far behind the competition.

I use GC quite a bit, it looks different but I don't see any killer features that aren't common on all platforms (in either version of GC)

The big ones I remember as missing in the early beta were nutrition (MFP sync now), equipment tracking (added), Power Profile chart (added) and ATP. ATP shows up for an athlete but coach still creates it in the classic.

You have to be more specific that "it's crippled" :)

Thanks. That is what I found. I am just in the process of cleaning up my libraries and when I am in classic it still gives me the option to sell that particular library. I seem to recall that feature in the past and a few coaches like Gordo offered their libraries for free. But all I could find were plans for sale

Yes, in the Dashboard add the Fitness Summary chart and then edit the options for the chart and select the date range (custom or one of the many ready to go options) and then select the report type (planned, completed, etc...). This will give you a pie chart with the overall volume of all activities. If you hover over any area it will give you details for that activity type.

Alternatively you can use Distance or Duration by Week/Day charts to make a bar graph for individual activities and just edit the date range.

Just an FYI for any Suunto users....

Quote:
TrainingPeaks has announced that they are now compatible with all Suunto devices. This collaboration will allow athletes using Suunto products to seamlessly push their training activities to TrainingPeaks for tracking and analysis.

This compatibility is based on an automatic data transfer between Movescount.com, Suunto's online sports community, and TrainingPeaks. After performing a one time account sync, data tracked with a Suunto watch is automatically transferred from Movescount.com to an athlete’s TrainingPeaks account.

Athletes can set up this sync by going to www.movescount.com/connect/trainingpeaks. In just a few steps you can ensure all your workouts are automatically synced to both Movescount and TrainingPeaks.

I know previously it was said it shouldn't work since there is no .fit or other file associated with it but it was working if you used the + manual activity button in activities but not the + sign in the widget.

Any thoughts on what is up there? Was it more of a it worked by mistake for 2 months sort of thing?

Only problem is that in will only sync future workouts, not sync up everything from the past.
While I understand that this helps prevent doubling of data that you might have manually entered.

Nonetheless, it would be great if there were a way to batch export from Movescount...

I know there is still work going on at Garmin but other than that I am not sure. In general the process is upload to Garmin and Garmin sends the file to TP.

For QA you need to switch to Classic however Scatter Graphs (which are in a way the same, just different) are available in the new version.

I am not 100% sure but with Garmin Connect Sync the 30 days past limit was a Garmin API limit. I can only assume (and I am only assuming) that it's a similar issue. There used to be a Greasemonkey script for Firefox that would allow you to batch export from Movescount.

I bought a runners world training plan for 10 weeks.

How to get the colours on my calendars? I saw a few have colours. (plan/actual and missed - red colour i think)

Does this apply to triathlon plan alone? help needed

Complete the workouts :) There are two ways to color code the workouts, by type or by compliance. It is dependant on your settings not the plan but the default is compliance.

Workout type colors are muted a bit in the new version so they aren't as apparent but if you upload an activity file or manually fill in workout details it should apply the compliance color but it depends on your settings. I'm assuming you have it set to "Color Code Workouts by type"

I see the issue. Compliance is based on planned time. The training plan is distance based. If you were to enter something in planned time then you would see the compliance colors applied.

Been training for the last year and been using Golden Cheetah to analyse my activities. Now I have just signed up to TrainingPeaks and would like all my past years worth of activities in TP, which is easy enough. My current FTP is 268w and a couple of months ago it was 285w, so when setting up my profile in TP I have entered my FTP as my current 268w. The thing is when I import an old activity file into TP from when I had an FTP of 285w the TSS and IF is higher due to it calculating the TSS and IF values using my lower FTP value of 268w that I've entered into TP compared to what it actually was back at that point in time when I performed the activity.
How do you get around this issue? Would be good if you could enter your different FTP's that you've had over time with a date so all the activities after the date you got a new FTP has the appropriate metric values for that given activity at that point in time instead of using your current FTP that you've just entered into your profile when signing up.

I have just actually thought of what I might have to do.
Do you have to enter your FTP into TP from when I first started training last yr and then import all the activities after that date up until I got a new ftp. Then enter in that new FTP and then import all the activities from the date of the new FTP up until my FTP changed again and so on?

Hope all that makes sense

Couple of updates....

Quote:
Over the past two and a half years, TrainingPeaks has worked to build a new platform with additional features in order create a better experience for our users. We are reaching the end of this process and on July 1st, the Classic version of TrainingPeaks will be retired. The following is an update on features that will and will not be available in the new version of TrainingPeaks.

On June 3rd, we will be releasing the Annual Training Plan for the new version of TrainingPeaks and retiring the Classic version of ATP. All data that is currently in your Classic ATP will be moved over to the new ATP.

Additionally, we will be bringing over features including filtering workout libraries, sharing training plans, and dual calendar, backfiller, exporting data, and color workouts by sport type. However, there are also some features that will no longer be available in TrainingPeaks. These features include:

Forums - (replaced with http://help.trainingpeaks.com/)
Routes - (can be exported to GPX)
In-App Messaging - (sorry I thought this was coming over, premium athlete/coach have email options)
Workout Builder - (current workouts go read-only)
Virtual Coach

To re ask a question I asked earlier in the thread - will there be a facility in the new version for downloading all the data to a CSV file?

It's exists in classic currently but obviously won't be available for much longer.

Athlete settings is there currently, data export is coming, you can currently upgrade a client to Premium unless they are a "shared" athlete and attach a coach.

I haven't posted on Slowtwitch in ćons, so forgive me if I transgress any conventions!

I'm curious about the why of disabling Virtual Coach. I've been sidetracked by anćmia (boo, hiss) but I've been planning to coach myself to another Ironman next year (2016). I read the Training Bible and was excited to see how I could use the Annual Training Plan and the Virtual Coach to set up a week-to-week plan that I'd use as the base for the work-outs I actually scheduled.

Did no one actually use the Virtual Coach? Is it a deprecated methodology?

No one on the Web seems at all concerned about its imminent demise.

Thanks for any thoughts! Richard

It really came down to two things. 1) Not that many people use it 2) If we were going to rebuild it in the new app, we didn't just want to rebuild it as-is, we want to make it much much better. As we considered the effort it would take to make it work like we really want, we decided it would be better to work on some completely new functionality that we have planned. Down the road at some point, we may build a whole new VirtualCoach, but for now, we've got our sights set on some really cool new stuff. It had nothing to do with the methodology. Note, the ATP will be out in a couple weeks, and it's much improved from the old one.

A bit frustrated on what seems like a simple current feature in the current version not being converted to the new TrainingPeaks platform before the discontinuation of Classic July 1. According to tech support the use of workout codes to sort will not be implemented until after the July 1 cutoff and the only way to sort workouts will be by title. That leaves the only option to categorize workouts is by adding a sort code to the beginning of each workout title. Not only will having a code at the beginning of each workout title look sloppy, it will take a few hours to add the codes with the hundreds of workouts in my libraries. And then adding the codes back into the workouts once the feature is added back after July 1 more of a waste of time.

In the Fall of '14 in the TP feature request section it was said that the option to sort by code would be added to the new version.

I understand the need to have customers migrate to the new version, but it would seem like doing this conversion during such a busy time of year for an endurance sports coach not great timing.

I think you might have misread or support wasn't clear....

Sorting by workout codes is on the list for July 1, or very very soon after. They realize it is an import feature and are not abandoning it.

Editing workout codes will come later in the summer.

Below is the text I received from support and I think it is quite clear that sorting by codes will not be implemented before July 1 according to them. Having the ability to find workouts easily has been one of the benefits of TrainingPeaks compared to other online training tools. My concern is that starting July 1 it will take quite a bit longer to update programs for athletes without a method to easily find workouts.

Even if it is implemented shortly after Classic dies it will impact me quite a bit. I just don't understand why Classic is being dropped before this feature is updated in the new version since it is important. What would very very soon after July 1 be; a week, a month? When it is being added impacts the decision on if I spend the time and do as tech support suggests and add a code to the beginning of the workout title.

Also, does editing codes mean adding in codes to new workouts? Would codes in existing workouts be transferred to the new system?

I apologize on the delay in getting back to you on this.
I checked on sorting and I misspoke- my apologies.
Sorting by workout code will be coming, but not by July 1st. We are working on updating this feature and will take a little more work than what we had originally hoped. As for searching, right now, it is searching by the Title of the workout. Some coaches and athletes have updated their workout titles to include Endurance, Strength etc so that when they try to find a workout, will be able to see it in our new system. We are working on bringing over more search/ filtering functionality, but haven't quite got it finished as of now."

This is the list of what is in and what is out when the classic app is retired on July 1, 2015.
http://help.trainingpeaks.com/...-Flash-Site-Classic-

Filtering Workout Libraries is on the todo list for July 1. Sorting, searching and displaying workout codes is part of that. If for whatever reason this is not done by July 1 it will happen within the month of July. The new app and the classic app both pull from the same database, so existing workout codes will not be lost.

Do you still have the files from your Garmin? They are usually stored on your PC somewhere. If you do you can bulk upload with Device Agent.

Trying to get in compliance with TP's process but workout did not load from Garmin Connect to TP yesterday. Downloaded app and Mac says it is not from an approved developer or approved in App Store. I bypassed security on the system and loaded Device Agent. It is not intuitive but got it to work but it crashed as soon as download was complete and i had to re-boot my Mac - yes, everything is updated and current on Mac. I've had numerous slow loads in the last few weeks from Garmin Connect to TP.

1. When will software function in the way demanded by TP? (i.e. Garmin connect loads every time)
2. While you work to improve this function can you provide Classic view or at least a way to load TCX files manually in TP? Strava can do this without problems or errors - why not TP?
3. When will the Device Agent software be approved for use on the Mac? It is buggy and causes issues as is.

1. Garmin sends to TP, if it is not syncing it is typically just a backlog at Garmin that causes it. You can try disconnecting the sync, waiting a while and reconnecting but it's usually just a backlog on the Garmin end.

If you are having issues with file uploads via a browser or via Device Agent contact support who will assist with troubleshooting.

Lay out your week of workouts and then copy and paste that into subsequent weeks and make the required edits or,

I have a premium athlete account. I am writing workouts to save in my library. I go through writing the workout putting in the title, time, and description. When I am done and go to click save, it deletes a large portion of the text I just entered in the workout description.

Tried using both chrome and firefox. Logged in and out of my account. etc. The issue persists.

Thanks in advance for your help.

No I hadn't. I knew I would get a pretty quick response on this thread so I tried this first. I will email support.

Thanks for the quick reply, and maintaining this thread as well!

OK you have two options....

This seemed a little silly so I wrote a utility for myself that inserts recurring workouts for the next n weeks - kind of like the meeting recurrence feature you find in outlook or gmail. It uses the TrainingPeaks webservice API to insert the workouts. Is this something that would be of general use? Are there other TrainingPeaks tools that athletes/coaches want?

If under an Athlete account, we can't plan workouts even with the Premium version? Just purchased Premium for a year and it seems that feature is only for Coach accounts. Any way around this? If not, can I change my account to a coaches account?

Try logging out and back on? Premium athlete should be able to click on any day in the future and then select workout type and specify planned durationand any other details. you can drag and drop those workouts around. you can also select past days/weeks, click copy and then past them into a week in the future to quickly plan a future week.

You can also open up your workout library (on lefthand side) and create workouts that you can later just drop onto particular days.

If you're not seeing that functionality then I'd check with their customer support.

My mistake, should have worded differently. We can't create a specific training plan? I see and have used the ATP feature, but thought that I'd be able to create a completely customizable, specific plan and then import the whole thing into the TP calendar.

I think it's just to give you a guide for planning your year and determining what period of the year you are in.

It's then up to you to pick what kind of workouts you want to do based on information givin. please correct me if I'm wrong though.

I did a ride this morning and for the first 15 minutes or so, my Garmin Vectors were out of whack. Either that or I'm on form to win the TdF. They settled in and for the next two hours all the numbers look right. Is there a way to edit just the power numbers for the first part of the ride without doing it second by second? I intend to probably just make it a single number (average of the rest of the ride) across. Not completely accurate, but at least I get some credit and it's way better than now.

Using Chrome.

Hard to explain, but if I add a workout for Monday,
1. I choose the activity as a Swim
2. I can rename the workout
3. I can't change the duration or distance from zero

how is everyone scheduling strength workouts in TP?

Would like to use TP for that but i've just been typing the routines in the description box of the workout- is there a better way?

Or just use TP to schedule the workout and use another medium as reference for the lifts?

I might be missing something obvious here, but is there a way to filter what calendar items show up on the Android app? I can do it fine on the web-based calendar (the little drop down menu at the end of the title bar), but can't seem to fine any options on the app.

To elaborate, I've just been playing around with the MyFitnessPal sync and it seems to work fine, but I don't really want all my nutrition and weight stats clogging up the calendar on the app, I just want to see workouts there:

No there is not. I do find it becomes a bit clearer if you tick the TSB Fill box.

When "analysing" a workout, is there a way to select multiple laps to get the stats (min/max/avg Power, HR etc)? I can select only one lap at a time, or "drag" across the graph to get a selection. But when I activate check boxes next to the laps, nothing happens (only 1 lap - if selected) is shown in summary stats.

Does anyone know of a way to customize the ATL constant that is used by the ramp rate charts? Either on the web or mobile. (I assume they overlap on the backend somewhere, but not sure how much logic they share.)

Thanks!

Yeah. It's a specific property of each individual chart. So you have to edit it on every chart you want changed. Go to dashboard, then click the properties button. The time constants are at the bottom, maybe in an advanced section. Can't recall exactly.

Thanks Tom. I've changed all the individual charts that I've added to my dashboard, but I can't figure out where the setting is for the ramp rate chart. The one that's on the home page on the web, and that's called "PMC Report" on mobile (distinct from the "Periodic Chart" which allows you to show the actual PMC).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tried searching, and I can't seem to find the answer.

If I'm not using a multisport watch, is there a way to split a single garmin file to different sub-activities? eg if I use the lap button to mark transitions between Swim / T1 / Bike / T2 / Run? I'm using the basic version, but will likely be upgrading to the premium version eventually.

Hi all,

I've recently switched from an iPhone to Samsung, and for some reason I no longer have the EF metric showing up for my runs. It is there for my rides, but I'd also like to view it for my aerobic runs.

Is this a feature TrainingPeaks have removed? Or is it something to do with my switch from
iOS to Android, or is it simply a matter of not having the app set up correctly to display it?

If it looks like the workouts are downloading but then all you see is the screen with the TrainingPeaks logos, then you have to many workouts stored on the device. Unfortunately CIQ apps are not allowed to delete files on the device. This is something we are working with Garmin to enable. So for now the older workout files need to be manually deleted. This can be from any desktop or laptop computer. When plugged into a computer the Garmin device will appear as a external USB drive. To remove the older workouts you will want to delete all the .FIT files in the /Garmin/Workouts folder. We hope to have a better solution in the future.

Is there an "official" TrainingPeaks rep on ST anymore?

It looks like the last time Rodney logged in was 2016. No one else from TP has posted in this thread, and I can't find any other threads with an official TP rep---granted searches are a bit difficult to construct for that. But, browsing through "trainingpeaks" results didn't net any obvious alternates.

I don't think Rodney is around anymore. I'm happy to help, if I can. I do a lot of planning in TP using TSS.

I'm not sure I understand your question, though. Do you do structured hill workouts, like hill-repeats or something?

Ah thanks! Yes, I am planning a hill repeat workout and knowing this hill at 9% gradient and the Strava CR is at like 9:15 pace, I am planning to go for 11:00 or so pace. So when I put the ~1.5m interval, I am only asked to input % of threshold pace and obviously, that has no appreciation for hard this 11/mile will actually be (the CR is a pro runner). Because I use TSS as my #1 compliance priority, this will likely result in a yellow or orange for being too hard. I know I could go through the motions of calculating TSS manually given I know the gradient of this but since I have many hills to choose from around here, I was hoping for an easier way to have the planned TSS in these hill repeats.

Question: Do you use the structured workout pace to drive ALARMS on your watch? In other words, are you trying to have your watch tell you if you are running too fast/slow and beep at you in those cases?

Or...are you just trying to calculate the predicted TSS for the run assuming you run up/down at your target paces?

If you are just trying to calculate the predicted TSS (and are NOT going to use pace alarms)...then you can just work off of % flat-ground pace. TP will compute Normalized Graded pace after the fact in order to compute actual TSS...which is the same as "flat-ground pace", theoretically. I've done this in the past, by running the workout once...and then used the recorded data (NGP for each segment) to construct a TP workout that matches.

If you want alarms for going too hard/easy...then you'd have to switch to a HR based workout. Or...get a running power meter like a Stryde, and program based on running power instead.

It is definitely the latter I am aiming for and that's what I was afraid of but I guess if I can figure out the target pace a 5% hill and a 9% hill, that is good enough of an estimate for hills close enough to the two levels. This does give me more reason to give stryd a try. Thanks!

2. Does something like Normalized HR exist? For example, to control your speed on the bike. Or is a powermeter the only solution?
