Zipp 650s on Rinny's bike
Jay Prasuhn tweeted about this article and while the boys might not be interested I think the womens will. There have been conversations about 650 vs 700 wheels for smaller women but the wheel option for 650s are limited. Looks like Zipp is listening.

My last read of the night...interesting! I will be looking to buy new race wheels before IM Lake Tahoe next September and I'll look at them.

However, since FLO Wheels are literally across the street from where I work, the Firecrest wheels will have to be a LOT better than my 'buy local' pricing ;-)

SSP,
Does FLO produce 650 wheels? Couldn't find any on their site.

Well, you were right. I'm sad to say that 650 wheels are not in FLO's inventory and I don't expect them any time soon. Oh well, I guess I should be glad that major wheel builders are providing options at all...

I have a pair of 650 clincher zipps. With skewers and a wheel builder cover for the rear. With cassette and travel bag. Great condition.

I paid about 2k for the whole setup. I'll sell them to ya for $750

You are probably joking, but i just found a P3 aluminum in 54 and 26 inch wheels, still new in the box, right around the first bike that cervelo made in early 2000. It should be here any day now, and i'm going to build up my super bike from that frame. I still ride the same bike but newer(about 7 years old, the red/white P3) and i have not found a better fitting bike for myself. I have some sweet H3's race wheels that work for all conditions and have never had an issue finding tires for them. I believe this bike is about as aero as they get, 26 inch wheel bikes are very slippery..

wasn't joking at all. understandable that shops don't want the extra SKUs and companies don't want to spend the extra money opening moulds, but it doesn't necessarily make for the best bikes (i still can't believe how many people ride 44cm-48cm bikes with 700c wheels... what a travesty!).

on a related note, didn't the p3 come in odd sizes above 51? 53, 55, etc.?

and actually, it's possible that that was the case with the p2 series when they were still running 650c above the 48cm frames.

The bike i have now was put out around 05 i think, and it is a 54. But i think you are right in that the ones before were odd sizes, as i seem to recall that i had a 53 back then..

Figure you're using 26" because it's close to the 650 size, but so others know, there is a good deal of difference in size. I own a set of the old HED 26" wheels like Tomac raced downhill on at one time, and am thinking of building a purposeful gravel road bike using those wheels. My tri bike is an old P2classic with 650 tri-spokes. Sweet and fast ride, and looks awesome.

Interesting, but wasn't she disappointed with her recent bike splits?
Has anyone made the 650-700 or 700-650 switch and noticed a significant difference??? I did the same IM course on both with the same splits. I was nervous about switching up to 700 on a hilly course, I am not a powerful rider.

Unles it is a fit issue, where you can't get into your preferred position with one wheel size or the other, their wont be a big difference in speed.

I don't doubt that one size or the other may be a touch faster but I'd be shocked it it was over a minute difference for an IM.

I rode 650's for years, and have 700's now. I don't notice the difference really but biking has been a strong point for me. As a matter of fact, I'm re-doing my old school kestrel 500 into a road bike with the 650 wheels I have. Hate to see those 650 zipps go to waste hanging up downstairs!
