Bike short question for Ladies Only (warning! Graphic)

So when on a long ride (100+ miles), what's your advice about pubic hair? I've been warned not to shave as the stubble is deadly, but I can't wax (allergic to the wax).

I've been going native, as they say, but it's causing some issues with hair and the lycra of the bike shorts.

What do you all do? Epilate? Depilitate? Go natural?

My n = 1 experience is that I have had no trouble with shaving. Obviously, you want to take care with a very sharp object where you can't see ;-) For me, it's just 5% more personal real estate that I have to manicure, so it's no big deal. If I shave the underarms, then I shave the undercarriage...

I don't know anything about pubic hair regrowth being deadly but why not cut it?

I've not had an issue, but I'm also a devoted chamois cream user. You might try adding some of that to the mix. I personally go the waxing route, but I understand that's not an option for you. Have you tried sugaring? Similar to waxing in terms of results, but uses different product. It's pretty popular here in Seattle, but not sure if it's an option where you live.

Good luck!

A combination of Epliate and shave (electric shaver).

I'll put in another vote for sugaring. Works like waxing, but should take care of the allergy to wax issue.
Also, try to exfoliate as well as possible before and after bike rides. I'm prone to ingrown hairs which are a pain.

I was really worried there were going to be pics in this thread!!

I think most people would be fine with shaving. Just do it more than a day beforehand.

Some kind of chamois cream is helpful.

Perhaps the biggest thing is making sure your shorts fit well (not too big) and that you really pull the material right up to the top of your legs (really hike them up). This way when your legs are pedalling your shorts stay exactly in place instead of rubbing back and forth.

Good saddle goes a long way too.

Happy riding!

I hope you find a solution - I don't seem to have these issues. I go natural. However, I do shave the sections that would stick out from a swim suit - and recently I've started laser hair removal treatments for that.
Definitely make sure your shorts aren't baggy AT ALL. They should be tight, but not cutting off circulation. I use bodyglide.

This....."If I shave the underarms, then I shave the undercarriage..." is absolutely hilarious & a brilliant way to put it!

Depending on the time of year I either shave (combo electric & manual) or wax...prone to the ingrowns so I definitely have felt your pain before.

The suggestion of "one day prior" (or two) should give some assistance. Chamois cream is absolutely key.

Good luck.

I was dissappinted that their wasnt any pics! :-)

Wife has a similar problem to the OP.
While she isnt actually allergic to waxing, she is very sensitive, so if the wax is just a touch too warm, she pays for it for days.

As others have said, beware of ingrown hairs and make sure you knicks fit correctly.
I know the wife also avoids long rides for at least 3 or 4 days after getting waxed.
