I just got a ninja master prep for christmas and it is awesome. 60 bucks on amazon looks like. It is a top piece motor that attaches to different sized containers for food processing or attaches to a pitcher for smoothies. It's powerful too!

Same boat - have been vegetarian for quite some time but haven't found a decent blender - have an old Oster - but seem to go through the blades more often than chains on my bike....also looked at a VitaMax - but $500 for a blender is more than out of my league....would be interested in hearing any good suggestions...

Built really well. Has a bigger than usual square glass jug that means you can make extra. 800w motor. Buttons for different blending options.
I had one that lasted 4 years of heavy use and just bought the exact same model again. Previously I used to burn out blenders every year or so.
It is way better than my sisters very over priced Kitchenaid blender, which has a smaller jug and puny motor.

We have tried several blenders and many have failed after just a few months. The Breville Ikon Blender has been the only blender to stand the test of time (3 years) in our household. It's even got a smoothie function that makes short work of frozen strawberries.

Ahh nothing beats a vita mix..sorry! My Wife and I put it off for a few years. Now that we have it we use it multiple times a day. For the amount we use it we would have blown through half a dozen $100 blenders, worth every penny.

I predict that years from now we'll look back and see the 21st century as a time when people became so lazy that they began to prefer grinding their food to pulp so they could swallow it more quickly. One of the very best weight loosing tips I've found is to stop drinking your calories. Time spent chewing is associated with satiety. Now if you're trying to gain weight smoothies make sense.

BTW, I love smoothies too but see them as a decadent desert for once in a great while.

Agreed... buy the Vitamix, you'll only need to buy it once. It's more than just a smoothie machine... meals, you can rock three meals a day in that thing (not all smoothies either). It is incredible. The ease of cleaning is a major selling point too. The cookbook we got with ours is really great. Currently we make smoothies, salad dressings, nut crusts for meat, sauces, sorbet, and soups. We had a Bamix immersion blender for smoothies and soups but upgraded and glad we did.

I won a nice KitchenAid blender at Steelhead 70.3 a while back and it's still going strong.

Such a Bad Runner

I had a Magic Bullet and I liked it. But it only lasted me 2 years with consistant use.
I liked it because I only made shakes for myself and using the same cup to blend/drink out of made it quick and easy.

My dad had a Ninja that he gave to me for X-mas. It works well. Blends much better than the Magic Bullet but I miss the convenience of using 1 cup.
With the ninja, I need another cup and I need to pour it out...etc. etc.
The Ninja is much more quieter than the Magic Bullet which is good for me since I have a 1 year old son that is usually sleeping when i'm finished with my workouts.

My dad has a Vitamix and has had it for years. Still works perfectly to this day.

You can get a very good medium-sized food processor for $150, or a small one for less. It works as a blender, and can also do many more interesting and useful things (Hummus!)

As far as I know, Cuisinart is the best brand and Kitchen Aid is a half-step behind. I've owned one of each.

i justify spending $500 on a blender by knowing that if i dont buy the vitamix ill just be spending more on cheaper blenders and over the years ill be spending more total on multiple blenders. vitamix's great 7 year warranty is fantastic.

While not under $150, on the advice of some in this thread I picked up a Blendtec blender. The thing is AWESOME! Highly recommended.

And I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond using one of their 20% coupons, so the price came down quite a bit.

Kichen Aid gets my vote. Had one for three years now that I use everyday - hasn't failed me yet!

I've been a professional trainer now for about 15 and have went through my fair share of blenders. From my experience you need to keep a few things in mind when shopping for one. The obvious first thing is motor power, get one with at least 600 watts of power. The more powerful it is the easier time it will have getting through ice for making smoothies. You also want to get one with a sturdy base, if you don't the thing will be moving around your kitchen counter, so dont get one with a plastic base. Also make sure you get one with mutliple speeds and they all should have a pulse setting, you don't need more than a couple speeds.

Don't waste your money on a Vitamix or a Blentec, you're trying to make smoothies here not disintegrate iphones. I've have a KitchenAid 5-speed for about 5 years now and I paid about $100 at the time. It still works like new after many drinks and shakes. I also heard good things about Oster, Ninja and some Hamilton Beach items. Just like in my workouts I like to be efficient and not overspend for stuff I don't need. Frugal5.com is another good reference for low price high quality blenders.

Highly recommend getting a Costco membership if you have the opportunity. First off you can get an Oster that works very well for $30, second of all, if it every breaks just take it back to Costco and the problem is solved. The Costco guarantee is better than any guarantee Vitamix, Oster, or any other brand offers. And when I say "well" I actually have found that the Vitamix gets sooo hot, that it actually can blend a smoothie that was frozen fruit, refrigerated juice, and ice into warm soup, which if it was really cold I guess would be desirable, but not usually what I wanted. The Ninja is absolute piece of garbage, and the Blendtec falls into a similar category as the Vitamix. Regardless of the brand decision, all of them should be purchased at Costco.

I am struggling with the jar weakness and leaking that whonnoswho posted about on the Healthmaster 100. The blade is loose and the liquid seeps slightly out and has made the bottom outside of the jar a horrible rusty mess and it takes about 20 mins to clean the darn thing every time I use it I spent $200 on it and only used it for like 8 months and customer service pretty much told me to deal with it. The Cuisinart dual blender/food processor https://thehomedweller.com/best-blender-under-100/ is a great deal at around $100 (amazon even has the “premier” version for $105). The blender container is glass, too. The food processor is on the small side, and it isn’t quite as flexible as a regular food processor (it’s pretty high speed even on the lower settings, so it’s harder to use for chopping and such), but I thought the set was quite handy. The blender tackles ice well and the food processor is the perfect size for hummus. Given that it is a model less made for heavy duty use (at least compared to the Vitamix), it’s nice to have the option to use the food processor for some of the tougher tasks. Also: Consumer Reports actually rates the Braun PowerMax as their top pick in blenders, and it happens to be one of the most affordable: $35 to $60 or so, depending on the seller. Good luck!

When I saw the title of this post, my first thought was, "There's a blender that costs more than $150? Why?"

And then I saw posts about $400 and $500 blenders? Good god I feel old.

We have a Vitamix at home for the primary purpose of breakfast protein smoothies (powder, frozen berries, greens, all the things) and there's a Ninja at my office where I've also kept a stash of supplies for making post-training smoothies there. I must confess: I REALLY like the Ninja. The only downside is - as I've seen others call out - the blade. 1) it is sharp and bc of where it's placed you have to handle it a lot 2) since it's removable, I may have - a time or two - put all my ingredients in without the blade. The blade situation makes Vitamix more convenient. We had it on our wedding registry and some good friends told us to take it off so that they could get it for us from Costco at a better price point, so I would also second that recommendation that I've seen other's make.

Depends on which one you get. The one I've got (or rather the wife's as it was a gift from her sister) is the low end model...aka it only has 2 speeds (low and high). But it is awesome and works like a champ. Been awhile since I've used it but usually make protein shake smoothies when I did more strength training (milk, ice, banana and chocolate or mocha flavored whey protein...pretty good tasting after a hard workout).

I do yes and mine does have speed settings versus some other models. However, I admit, I just like to chop, chop, chop for maximum speed. Sometimes I get a nice cold smoothie, sometimes it is a tad warm. Regardless I usually just slam it down. Eating has been a chore for the better part of a decade.

We were in the same boat - we didn't understand what could justify the cost of the Vitamix and spent just as much on various blenders which never lasted before we got a Vitamix. It's a night and day difference.

And it's super easy to clean; after you're done making your mix you fill it up with water and a few drops of detergent and let it blend at max speed. Then rinse with plain water and you're done.

Bumping this thread, as we are looking for a new blender (assume price is no issue).

Right now I am between a Vitamix and a Breville Hemisphere - any recommendations or others I should consider?

I have a Ninja at home with all sorts of attachments and really like it. Bought this Ninja for my daugher at college as she's into clean eating... relatively small foot print and works well! Simple to use and clean up is pretty easy. For ours the base with the blades had to be replaced as the bearing started to seize up after a lot of use... replaced it for $ and back in business. The one I got my daughter is pretty simple and not crazy expensive....

I'm still in awe of the fact that the Vitamix will literally BOIL the contents in the blender without a heating element!

Ninja owner here for like 4 or 5 years. We've got the one with the base and two size blend containers and blades, dough hook, etc...

Works great. Only caution is for the lids, don't dish wash. The rubber seal on ours started to get really gummy and get black nasty tar on stuff in the dishwasher. Our fault.

It got a LOT of use making baby food at the old house.

Vitamix rocks! I have one and it was a great purchase. One way to tell is look on e-bay or elsewhere and see what used ones sell for. Not much less than new, so they keep value in case you change your mind......you'll get almost all back. Their demos show the way to make tortilla soup in the blender as the blade friction makes it get hot (and even boil). I buy fruit in quantity, freeze it when it gets long in the tooth and the Vitamix makes awesome smoothies without breaking a sweat. I hate to add ice to my smoothies as the taste is watery, so this is awesome. You'll never look back.

I've been drinking veggie smoothie every morning for years, and I like it pretty thick with less water. I've tried several different blenders from Walmart, Target, Nutri Bullet, Ninja but don't waste your money. Vitamix is the way to go. I bought mine new on Facebook Market place for $120 and it's the best. I think old model can boil the content, but new model is not getting hot like that. I throw in avocado seeds just for the hell of it and it blended just fine.

We got a Blendtec and love it. The blades are dull so there is no chance you can slice your hand open when cleaning it.

Just get a Vitamix and be done with it.
My first one was a '5000' and I used it for 19 years, and just recently handed it down to a friend, still in perfect working order.
Bought a new E320, they just rock. All the other blenders are always compared to a vitamix, and none blend as well, including blendtec (though close).

^^^^^^^^^^There's a reason you see them in most of the high end cooking shows with the chefs. Save the shopping time and any future disappointment and get the Vitamin.

I went with Blendtech and I'm very pleased with it. Great for smoothies.

Another vote for Blendtech. I have had a smoothie almost everyday for the last 20 years. In fact, many days its two smoothies. Destroyed many blenders in the early days but the last 10 years I have been using a blendtech, its flawless. Only draw back is my older model is a loud.

About 2 months ago it gave me the "overload" reading... couldn't fix it diy unfortunately, so we bought a newer model. We've used our vitamix in the restaurant for going on 7 years now and it still works like the day we bought it. It's amazing how powerful these things are and there is so much cool stuff you can do with it. Pm me if you want some ideas.

Had a ninja for years as my only blender, it really is amazing bang for your buck and really is ideal for a one person, one portion type of setup.

Splashed on a vitamix a couple years ago and yes there is an amazing difference but the price is a big factor for a lot of people and I remember buying the ninja my main reason for doing so was it meant the price difference went into a set of wheels!!!

We moved the ninja to second home and there have been some things we've missed but overall the vitamix is worth it in our opinion. Vitamix is quick to rinse but I will say that the ninja is so convenient with the 'take away' containers which did add a lot of convenience for us. We tend to make both smoothies together (double portions) in the morning which is perfect in the vitamix. You do have to pour them (and subsequently dirty) more containers along with the big jub, but we're out the door right after so it's not a big deal to leave the vitamix washed and drying on draining board. With the ninja I would make them individually, pop the lids on and away you go. Wash the container at work/after training etc and have it clean for the next morning. Not exactly a deal breaker when chances are anyone on this forum will have water bottles and lunchboxes etc to wash daily anyway, but still worth considering.

My two cents would be if space is a premium or if you are single, ninja is awesome. If you have the countertop realestate and have two people using it, the vita is worth every cent.

Same here. I was SUPER RELUCTANT to spend any amount of $$$$ on a blender. After burning the motor on two blenders in under a year, my wife brought home a Vitamix. She got it on sale at Macy's, but it was still around $300. I was actually kind of mad about it.

But approaching three years of making smoothies every morning at least 5 days/week, it's still going strong. Despite the bitter pill of the initial outlay, I have to say that she made a very wise purchase.

I have Ninja and a couple of other mediocre Walmart brand blenders and some old one with glass jar.
Vitamix is the best hands down. I got the new model brand new in box for for $150 from Facebook marketplace.
If you search hard, you can find a good deal.

Nutribullet is my favorite blender, 900 watt Nutribullet can make smoothies. I was impressed with the high power and hard blades that are not worse than other expensive blenders. It is lightweight and easy to clean, and most importantly it is so affordable. Of course, noise is an inevitable flaw.

Recently I bought KitchenAid because it was recommended by Americas Test Kitchen. I'm glad I did. I mainly use it for smoothies. It crushes the ice easy and makes them so smooth and creamy it's like a milkshake. I don't see how any of the more expensive ones could possibly do a better job.

I have a refurb Vitamix that cost just a hair under $150 with a Groupon, I believe...Vitamix runs a deal every couple years. 5 year warranty, IIRC, instead of lifetime, but it works like new and has been doing a great job for me for the 5ish years I've had it. It's truly the Cadillac of blenders, and I'm very happy with it.

I also have had a couple Ninjas.over the years, and have one on my counter next to the Vitamix. It's a great blender for the money (well under $100 with attachments, on sale), but it does give a different texture to what I blend than the Vitamix.

Sometimes I prefer one, sometimes, I prefer the other, but I'd highly recommend either.

Yep, refurb Vitamix, I'd buy one again in a heartbeat. I've got the model with a knob to adjust the speed, I like the manual control it provides.

I've had a Ninja before, would not even consider it now. Vitamix blenders are to me one of those few things that just work, and work well.

I'm polishing off my daily smoothie right now spinach, frozen peas, protein powder, peanut butter, almond milk and water. I'm getting over a cold so last night it was greens and lots of berries with a banana.

I have a NutriBullet Original 24oz. 600 watt. I'm a fan of it! I see it's $60.00 now. I find it's easy to clean and use. I use to have a magic bullet, which was great too! Long story as to why I don't have it anymore.

If you can, buy a Vitamix on sale....When I bought mine, I think it was 30% off. I use it regularly, and would have spent just about the same having to replace blenders. I've had mine for at least 6-7 years now. Sometimes, Bed bath and beyond will have good coupons, and Macy's sometimes has really good sales. Good luck, and happy blending:)
