Really?! And we hate airline fees... They suddenly seem cheaper than that UPS quote to me... And, renting for a race seems like a great option too.

And, renting for a race seems like a great option too.I have shipped bikes several times via Fedex Ground and they all have fallen in the range of $45 - $90 depending on the amount of insurance I got. The $90 was for a Speed Concept that was in a larger and more reinforced box and was insured for $7500. UPS is a lot more expensive than Fedex for ground.

ditto, go with FedEx. I've never paid more than $80 cross-country.

+1 on fedex. Shipped 3 bikes across the country for 50-70 apiece, depending on the insurance on them.

I agree that FedEx ground works well. Then you don't have to worry about flying CO2 cartridges.
I sent a bike from Texas to Michigan for ~$65 in my own case.

Federal Express is cheaper, but when shipping my bike to CA in March it arrived late and frame was ruined.
Plus side they did pay the insurance claim.

I took some carbon wheels to ups and they wanted 138.00 to ship them. Took them to usps and it was 18.00. I'd guess the lady had no idea what she was doing lol.

$65 to ship my bike fedex from PA to WA for IMC last year each way. Less to drag around the airport too.
I used shipbikes.com and they use FedEx. I paid $77 for DC to Portland, OR and it took 5 business days.
