Do you have stack & reach numbers for the stealth frameset? I didn't see any on ST or on your website. (well, there were some geometry #'s on your site, but not explicitly stack and reach).

Figures - I just bought the 82/101 wheelset last month for $800 8'0 I'll just have to convince myself that the Sapim CX-Ray spokes were worth the added $150

Planet X Pro Carbon 82/101mm TT Wheelset...Full Carbon...MSRP $849 X-Mas BLOWOUT: $649

Question:
How about the 50 tubulars for cyclocross? I'm looking for a 2nd set of racing wheels and this is a great price as long as you think they will hold up. I've been using a set of Token 50 carbon tubulars for a few years with no problems and I would think these are very similiar (if not the same) wheels.

The 50mm carbon tubulars have been used by MANY for cyclocross racing. They hold up extremely well, and the wheels are warranted for 2 years...however, the warranty will NOT cover abuse. CX racing does not constitute abuse!!

Here is a comment direct from the main planet x website in the U.K. "We even have Cyclocross riders racing on them. Tough, strong, light and predictable in all conditions, this is a killer wheelset."

I have 1 PX Clincher disc...it's been used 1x...by ME at B2B Ironman just 3 weeks ago. So, it has exactly 112 miles on it.
UK sells this new for 585GBP which equals $970USD...not including shipping.

I will sell this to a slowtwitch readers only for $700 INCLUDING shipping. PM me if you want it. There are NO decals on the disc. I DO have a magnet glued on for a computer.

SOLD - so I'm going to order a set - before I do, will the Aerobar be on special (there is an earlier post with someone asking)? I' possibly like to get both.

EDIT: Crap - I just saw that the build is using internal nipples - now I'm not so sure about these for cross use - will have to think about it a bit more. Sucks to have to pull a tire off to true the wheel.

Thanks

Any specials on the carbon road frame built as a complete bike - Ultegra and/or Dura Ace?

I've been eyeing the 2009 Cervelo RS which is on sale now and has gotten fantastic reviews. How does this frame compare in quality, weight, ride characteristics and suitability for hilly terrain?

Thanks

What are everyone's thoughts on the Planet X Pro Carbon 82/101mm TT Wheelset?

649 for a complete wheelset sounds like a hell of deal, but I"m curious if the depth on those wheels are too much for hilly courses, I'm doing IMWI next year as my first IM and cautious about wheel weight.

Very respectable wheelset and at that price it's an awesome deal. Definitely not too deep for hilly courses...not too heavy either.

The 82/101 wheelset is only in TUBULAR. If you are looking for a deep clincher wheelset, I have several pairs of 85mm front and 85mm rear made by Edge Design in Taiwan...a great set...no decals...2-year warranty...$789...3 left!! Same wheel as pictured below...no decals though. 1828g front and rear...Shimano or Campy.

Brian,

Can you split the 101/82 up? I'm just interested in the rear wheel in a shimano. I bought a set of the 50/50 tubulars. Also is there any discount on components? I'd like to get the stem, seatpost and seat to go along with the frame I bought a few months back.

Thanks!

I can do the rear only for $400. I really don't like breaking the set up, but I'm sure someone out there will want the 82 front...right everyone? PM me about the other components...I have LOTS of stems, seatposts, saddles, etc. PM me and we'll work through the 101mm.

VeloNews also just did an article on glueing tubulars - take a look on their website. It was for cyclocross tubulars so the gluing method is for the tires to STAY ON, I "think" Tri/TT people like to glue a bit differently - for easy flat changes.

I think the "Insane" deal is not the 20% off, but 20% off an already low price. Not sure you could find any similiar products at close to the same prices.

I have no problem at all with this being in this forum. DeSoto and I believe Infinit promotes specials from time to time, Bikesport MI used to, and there are others as well, I'm sure. As long as the subject line is clear (and this one is, although maybe we could loose the all-caps) then just don't open the thread if you don't like it.

I do cause its spam, plain and simple. And worse is spame IN THE WRONG FORUM. That's like spam squared. Worse, its not even that good a deal. So spam squared + not good deal.

Saying Bikesport did something, not a ringing endorsement BTW.

So unless you want to wade through tons of spam in the Tri forum, don't support spammers.

Hint- check out Ebay if you want this stuff cheaper. And you can put your own decals on it.

I wasn't commenting on whether this was a good marketing approach or not, simply that this approach is accepted for select vendors (DeSoto, Infinit, for example), but not, apparently, for others.

For what it's worth, I've bought things off of DeSoto's "Blatant Ads" posted to the main forum and will seriously consider betting a Planet X frame for my wife because I saw this one. So for this individual, the tactic works.

I've been keeping an eye on the UK site for 82/101's for a friend and just spent $650 of her christmas bonus.

I've also eyed a complete bike after being impressed while building hers and seeing how nice a bike it was,
and the deal wasn't bad either: 899 pounds (when it was lower)=$1350 for a complete Ultegra bike, unbuilt.

Now she'll have a complete PX setup. Thanks for posting this on ST.

These, of course, were estimates not knowing your exact address, but it should be within a few dollars one way or the other.

The website says the Carbon 50 Clinchers will ship December 12th. Are they currently in stock? I am from Toronto, but will be in Florida from Dec 18 to Dec 30 and want to have them shipped to me while I am in Florida to avoid duty issues.

No problems at all. Our shipment has arrived, and will be in our warehouse this Thursday, the 10th. We'll send them wherever you need!!

Can you use glue tape instead of actual glue?

Absolutely. We recommend the Tufo Extreme Tape.

Would you recommend tape over glue? What glue would you recommend? And what valve extenders and size would you recommend (or something else)? Sorry for all the questions. I'm new to tubulars.

Gluing is the "preferred" method. With this being your first time, I would not necessarily recommend you doing this yourself. Your LBS should be able to do it no problem. We recommend the Continental glue...don't use Mastik...we've had some problems with their chemicals damaging the carbon.

Are you kidding? Advice to my customers and prospective customers is why I do this!! This is the best part of the job. As you can imagine, I stock several different types of valve extenders. I also have them in silver, black, gold and red. Just tell me what you prefer, and I'll send them out to you for only $13...including shipping!!

Sorry. Misunderstood. I was not dissing him. I was trying to convey that I buy a wheelset from him and then I hit him with a hundred questions. My point was that after having to answer all my questions, the sale probably wasn't worth it to him. He has been GREAT in responding to my many posts and has also answered several PMs I sent him. Sorry if it looked like I was attacking him or ungrateful. Strictly a miscommunication. He has been great. I have been a pain in asking so many questions.

Absolutely!! So, you know the price of the wheels as listed. The valve extenders, carbon specific brake pad and skewers are $42 for all 3. I have the Vittoria Corsa EVO CX tires in stock (only 2 left), and I will mark those down from $150 to $140 for the pair, and the cassette will depend on the kind you want. The tires are the NEW Vittorias, with 320tpi. I have a LOTof the 2010 Sram Force Powerglides in stock, and will offer that for $62. Let me know!!

Yes...we do sell tires as well. My 'high-line' are the NEW Vittoria Corsa EVO CX, 320tpi tubulars...I'll sell the pair for $140. If you want a good training tire, I sell the Schwalbe Milano's for $90 for the set.

You are correct...what's missing is that Zipp certainly has a nice advantage with their patented dimpled technology. Zipp is an outstanding wheelset if you can afford them. These PX 82/101's are ALSO fantastic wheels, and are used by MANY of my pro's. Head to head in the wind tunnel...Zipp likey comes out on top. Last comparison...Zipps cost about $2,000 more.

Sorry for my ignorance but doesn't the 82/101 refer to rim depth and if so wouldn't these match up the Zipp 808 an 1098?

Great timing!!! I just sent out a special LAST NIGHT on the Uncle John special through Constant Contact. Frameset is normally $549, and I just reduced it to $399 through the new year. Use the same code: SLOWTWITCH at checkout in the "promotional code" box for the discount!! We have ALL sizes...even the 590mm!!

Ordered a set of 80/101 for a friend as well. She likes looking at them, says they're pretty(and that's all that really matters, right?) In this weather they've been wall art for two months. Hopefully she will get a chance to ride them soon.

Any upcoming deals on a Stealth frame or complete bike? I built hers up this time last year and was impressed.

Thanks for the note...glad she thought the wheels were "pretty."

Your timing on the complete bike question is perfect...and you are literally the FIRST person to hear this...

We have just ordered 30 complete bikes...18 stealths and 12 road bikes...a little experiment for us. We have always specialized in custom building...but we also knew that with the discounts we got on 30 completes, that there would be a nice market for them.

So, we have two models...for sake of argument, call them the "pro" and the "amateur" models. I have ordered 9 of each. Of those 9, 3 are small, 3 medium and 3 large...ALL BLACK STEALTHS (White to come later in the spring/summer).

The "pro" build has Sram Red components, 82/101 carbon tt wheelset and planet x carbon aerobars and extensions.

The "amateur" build has Sram Rival components, Planet X Model B alloy wheels and planet x carbon aerobars and extensions.

The "pro" build is going to sell for $2,899 and the "amateur" build is going to sell for $1,799.

I am going to start taking deposits immediately for these, as I believe that most will be sold prior to arrival on March 17th. Deposit will be $500.

Below is a sample of what the bike will look like...obviously this picture has Shimano components, but you get the drift...Black Stealth, Planet X 82/101's, and Planet X carbon tt bars.

Blessings,

Brian
