Ran Past Tyler Hamilton in the Boston Marathon Yesterday...
I was moving through the field pretty quickly yesterday at around Mile 13 or so, and I spotted some guy running ahead of me wearing a backwards skaterboarder hat with a t-shirt shirt that said "HERE TO STAY: ROCK RACING" on it. Pull up next to him, and lo and behold its Tyler Hamilton. Pretty sure he was running bandit b/c he wasnt wearing a bib (I think i remember reading somewhere that he lives in the boston area?). We chat for a couple of minutes, then he goes, "Man, this running stuff is hard..." I told him I thought placing second in the Giro with a fractured shoulder seemed pretty damned hard to me...

I had to move on, but before i passed i wished him luck with everything, and no matter what, he's done some pretty kick-ass inspirational things in his career.

Neat story I though you all might enjoy.

He's from Marblehead, MA, originally.

hell I'm just impressed he "jumped into" a freaking marathon. I can't imagine he's been doing much running in the last few months.

Sounds like he's been running a lot...AWAY from stuff and accountability.

Did you say hi to his vanished twin ? (Inside joke I guess....that was his defense originally for having another human beings red and white blood cells in his body...LOL).

I am just amazed at how many perfect people who have never done anything wrong or cheated or broke any rules in their rntire lives have chosen to post their anger at Hamilton in this thread.

That's awesome. I know from my own experiences that any words of encouragement during such a difficult time are very helpful. It seems that there are plenty of people that will shake their finger at him, especially on this message board it seems, but just want to say that was very cool of you to give him a boost, as you pass him no less! And, you can always say that you beat Tyler Hamilton in a race, details aren't important!

I just thought it was cool that Liz Hatch smiled at me at Sea Otter last weekend!! Ha Ha.

Cool story. Thanks for sharing. I certainly question choices the guy has made, but he obviously has a love for endurance sports and that's what I'd be feeling if I ran into him while running Boston.
