Nope. It will only cause additional chafing issues. Use Body Glide or Chamois cream on the parts that may chafe.

No...The last women I knew who rode with underwear under her shorts chafed so bad she was bleeding by 20 miles into the ride. Tight clean bike shorts is all you need. And maybe some chamois butter.

oh hellllls no!
this reminds me of a story though. one year I raced for the UO cycling team in college, and there was only ever one or two girls on each bike team at the races. a bunch of guys from one team came up to me and basically said "you HAVE TO talk to the girl on our team. someone needs to tell her she's not supposed to wear underwear under her bike shorts, but we can't tell her, because we're boys!"
hahahaha

Wearing undies under bike shorts is newbie mistake #1 for both females and males.
Wash them after every ride and you'll have zero problems. In fact, buy several pairs so there is always a clean set available.

Were you around during the discussion on this topic over in the main forum (probably about a year ago)? I was stunned, disturbed, and down right grossed out over the number of people who did not wash after every wear...

I've been showering in my clothes (well, workout clothes) for ever and ever. It's great--you can give them a rinse out, and avoid the nasties...but don't have to put them through the rigors of the wash machine. Clothes last forEVER. I have some sport bras that are prolly 17 years old, and still holding up.

Totally never thought to shower in my clothes, but I do hand wash the good stuff so I guess I may as well go that route. Great tip!

This is my first year in tri - on my first couple of months of training I wore underwear just because I thought you were meant to - I kept getting chafing at the underpant edges but still thought I was just "getting used to" the bike saddle pain that everyone just "gets used to". Realised as my HIM approached that I was dreading the bike just for the chafe reason...so then decided maybe I should just treat my tri-pants as my swimmers - ie who wears underwear under swimming costumes? Exactly - no one. Well, my HIM ride went great - NO chafing! So...no more underwear for me - oh, and I also wash my bike shorts after every ride :)

absolutely not. my girly bits also appreciate a smaller thinner pad like tri shorts and competition bike shorts....
as to wash post every wear, mostly, but since I hang all workout clothes to dry prior to throwing in laundry (so they do not sit and mildew...) everything gets the sniff test and if it passes gets another wear.....

Do you keep Sportwash in your shower?
;-)
I have been hanging my stuff to dry out before putting them in the laundry per advice on an earlier thread. I am too sweaty when I workout so I can't do the more than once wearing. I also don't hand wash sports bras and I do need to start doing that.

i do the same-- hang my sweaty clothes on hangers on the shower rod after each workout. my brother, who I share the bathroom with, recently realized that the clothes I've been hanging in the shower (which he moves from time to time) weren't clean... hahahahaha

So using a front load washer is OK? I have one of those! If that means I don't have to hand wash I'm thrilled!

Front load washers are the best ones!
I was thinking about showering in my bike stuff and realized why I never thought of that... I very rarely ride without a transition run after. I do an easy ride every week that I don't run after, but because it's so easy my stuff stays virtually sweat and smell free so it's still goog (imo) for the next ride.
Don't mind me... just had an "aha!" moment lol

Another advantage to jumping in the shower in clothes after a workout is that you remeber to rinse/wash your HR monitor-I'd forget other wise.
Re: underwear with bike shorts? [falk]

Abso-freaking-lutely no underwear under ANY workout clothes...it's 2 less seams to chafe.
As for yeastie beasties, I get out of bike/tri shorts ASAP after the workout. The sweat, chamois butter, moistness from down below have been fermenting and will grow mushrooms!
BTW, Desitin or Boudreau's Butt Paste (any diaper rash cream) works great for chamois lube.

We all know that some guys, particularly young bachelors can be total pigs, especially if they don't have a girlfriend at the time, but I'm actually quite shocked to hear that some women don't wash their bike shorts every time. Heck, even I do that.

even if they don't have a built in panty I tend to go commando....so not me who gets the chafes!
and no swamp ass here - I do make my shorts pass the sniff test which usually only happens after short rides. tops for some reason rarely pass the sniff test.
