Escape from Alcatraz Help
So I arrived in beautiful San Francisco today with my 19 YO daughter in tow to have a fun mother/daughter Escape from Alcatraz vacation. I race, my daughter gets the race shirts. My daughter's bag and my bike arrived, but my bag with everything, and I mean everything (wetsuit, normal clothes, race clothes, prescription goggles, three pairs of running shoes, bike shoes, helmet, back up race clothes, really everything) is missing. There were later flights tonight that the missing bag could have been on if they had found it, but it is still missing. I still have some moderate hope it will be found tomorrow, but my experience with missed bags is that if they know where it is, it is on the next flight. Like missing people, the longer the search goes on, the less likely a happy outcome.

My question for our SF women (Katey, CLM--hey I lurk--a lot) is there one place I can go on Friday morning and just spend my way out of this predicament? I don't want to sound like I have tons of $$$$, but I'm from the east coast so this really is an event tri, it is the highlight of my year, and my 5 year tri career really, and I'm just trying to come up with a plan B. I literally only have my bike and the clothes I wore on the plane at this point. I don't have many options.

And to think I thought the swim, bike and run would do me in! Clothes?!? I'm stressing over clothes and equipment. If you knew me, you'd appreciate the irony in all of this.

Thanks for your help.

Sports Basement has everything you need. Even corrective goggles. Although I'd still hold out hope that the bag will arrive!

Sending you a PM.

PM me.

I have multiple helmets and depending on size, could loan you a wetsuit and an extra pair of running shoes. I also have a ton of t-shirts and the like that you can have if you need extras. And, like Ariel said, Sports Basement will have everything else.

Also, depending on size, I could bring a pair of running shoes and/or wetsuit, and some goggles... I'm heading out early early Friday am. PM me if needed.

Note: My coach told me long ago, always carryon your goggles and running shoes, at the very least. I always carry on my race outfit as well.

Thanks ladies. The bag is still missing (3 connecting flights later) and my plan is to show up at Sports Basement first thing tomorrow morning if my bag hasn't arrived by then. I figure if the bag is really lost, I'm going to need all this stuff replaced anyway.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course, and I thought about carrying on some of my equipment, but this race requires a lot of ap-cray. Three pairs of running shoes, neoprene cap, etc., and I decided to just trust that my stuff would get here. Oh well.

Oh, and if you see a woman running the run leg in loafers, that would be me. Ha Ha. At this point I'm just trying to make myself laugh.

I'm definitely racing local for the next year or two!!!

You definitely have to fill us in on the outcome of this predicament! How did it go?

Sorry I missed this earlier, but you had lots of helpful suggestions. But the real question is: what did karma have that you would want??

Oops, I really didn't mean to leave the world hanging. Sorry! My bag made it on Friday am. Whew.

What did Karma give me? A very wonderful helping hand. Thanks for asking. I really don't mean to be coy; I was just asked to keep it to myself. So I am.

How was my race? Err, "race" you mean? It was absolutely fantastic. Oh, the whole population of ST can yell at me (and I'm sure many will) but my race was a keeper--an event--not fast. Yes, I overshot the swim. Yes, I had one hell of a time getting my wetsuit off. Yes, I knew that if I were racing, I was "done" at that point. Yes, I kept at it. Zero problems on the bike or run. I loved it and the many fantastic folks I met on the way.

I'm not shy, but every once in a while I love being a lurker. I saw CLM a few times and she is really beautiful. Duh. I was too tired and upset to introduce myself this time but perhaps I'll do next year's ST GWE. (Girl's Weekend).

A sincere thanks for those who cared.
