So going to make the return after injury this Sunday...UPDATE Race completed!!
Somewhat nervous, because I think the knee was talking with me today at my daughters lacrosse game. So the low down is: Short sprint, that 2years ago I was 5th OV (1st AG), and last year I was 4th OV (1st AG)....so the pressure is on.
It's been 6 weeks since I have been off crutches and PT went very very well. My husband raced this past weekend (water temps 56 ugh) and it was his first race as an Elite (he was 4th OV). It was hard to watch the girls head out of transition, and knowing so many of them and how I usually stack up against them. When Jeff came through the final quarter mile I was screaming so loud at him - usually I am still on the course so I never see him finish, it was very very cool, but my heart wanted to be out there so bad, but coach and PT said at least one more week, so this Sunday is it.
...so please just send me get through it strong thoughts.....
Thanks.
Kat

Kick some butt!!!

Good luck to you. I can empathize (sp?). I am racing Memphis in May on Sunday and was looking forward to a strong showing. However, I have been in a walking boot for the past week due to an Achilles injury. I can still race, but, I am nervous about it! So, with two of us focusing on "get through it strong" thoughts, no way way you can fail!

thanks everyone. should be an adventure. my bike is very strong right now, maybe even stronger than last year, but the run should be an interesting test. My plan is if I feel the knee at all, I am done. This is a big year for me later season, I don't want to screw it up.

Good Luck Kat, glad to hear things are healing up!

I will be doing my first 'race' since my femoral neck stress fracture this weekend as well, if you consider a slow jog at a 10k in Central Park a 'race'. I am really looking forward to it though, it will be my longest run since my injury.

This will be the first race ever where my goal time is to go SLOWER than a certain pace :) Need to keep my healing on track so I can get up to Pumpkinman healthy!

what race is it?

Sugarloaf weekend up north. If I can stay healthy for another 2 days I get to do a 15k. Bunch of friends running the marathon (I am sooooo jealous).

Good for you. Speaking as someone who is back in tri after 2.5 yrs off, it is hard and intimidating and full of nerves and anxiety... but it's so DAMN FUN!!! Have a great race and let us all know how it went.

AP

PS: My 2nd race "back" is Monday so I know how you feel...

So after a very crummy Saturday (feeling wise), tummy ache, bloated feeling...and restless, sleepless night, the hubby and I drove off at 5:15 for Massachusetts.
It was a relatively quiet drive and the normal pre race nerves etc. Got to the venue, and it was a TT start due to pool swim, and I realized I was seeded far better than last year (45th vs 130)....
Swim went ok, albeit, a little slow because I did get passed and the guy who passed me inadvertently stroked into my left leg as he was passing and I think I might have freaked out a little "bad leg, bad leg, bad leg". The exit of the pool is in the deep end and it is not an infinity edge and you really have to hike yourself out....again, a little paranoid as to how the knee would handle but it went ok.
Lightening fast transition, I passed three guys at the bike rack, one who passed me and two who were ahead of me. BIKE was awesome, fast fast fast, definately a cyclists course, very hilly big ups and downs and because its short, it gets treated like a TT. Although, splits aren't separated out on this course I had to rely on the computer for the time and mph...fast 21.5, on this course I was psyched. Did my flying dismount, scared because of the knee, but it was an all or nothing thing!
Now... was the test.....RUN.... 3.2, not far by most standards, but considering I did not get off crutches until April 4th, and did not start really running until the 14th of April, I was happy. I did my longest run, this past Wednesday and that totalled 6, so this was definately challenging. My husband considers this one of the hardest short course runs out there (BTW - he came is 4th OV today). Tough long uphills with quick steep downhills. Downhills are definately when I feel it the most, but today, not too much (the power of adernaline). I was definately conservative. Cadence and turnover just wasn't there....but that's ok, I haven't done any speed work since last September.
I can't say I am elated, but I am happy to have this over. I crossed the finish line in a new AG! Last year I was 4th OV...and today....7th. Not bad, big competitive field, I had a top bike split (husband said fastest - but results aren't online yet). Strange and maybe good thing was, I didn't run/rush over to the results table (a first for me) and instead took a nice shower, got a banana, called my kiddos, and then went over...the pressure was over and felt just happy to finish....watch out though, I am back and once coach Kurt (Trukweaz) gets me "runnin" again....I'm going for it again!
