Hotter (temp-wise) to wear wicking bra top or white wicking shirt?

Opinions needed for run clothing for IMAZ Sunday. Temp is predicted to be 92 degrees, very sunny.

Wearing white, short-sleeve jersey w/plenty of sunscreen on bike course. Will reapply in T2. I am already super pale and intend to stay that way.

Only been run training for 2 months due to chondromalacia in both knees, so there will be a lot of walking. If I'm bloated off the bike like last year, I'll put ss white wicking top on regardless :)

How is your sweat rate normally in those conditions? Does the wicking keep up with the sweat when it's hot and dry?

The benefit of wearing the SS shirt is protection from the direct sun. Also, when it flaps in the breeze there is a cooling effect. When you drop water on it the wet will cool you for a while.

I think a bra top can make things worse just because of the amount of skin exposed to the sun and potential sunburn. But, I don't run outside in one, only on the treadmill.

So, depending on the sun, I'd wear the SS shirt as long as there is good room in the shoulders and it isn't constricting. Also, needs to be lightweight. A bike jersey may be too heavy.

(EDIT: oops - logged in as hubby on home computer - erinleigh)

The problem is I don't know - I didn't run through the summer due to knee injury, and our weather has been really nice and cool in Tucson thus far, so no chance to do a dry run. I've done 20-30 minute brick runs in the afternoon - temp upper 80s - but nothing long enough to really know what is best.

The ss white wicking top is underarmour - light and not the snug fit.

Well, you can always start out with the shirt and dump it at special needs. You might not get it back though. Or, I've also tucked a shirt in the back of my shorts and let it flop over my butt.

Personally, I would run in the shirt to keep the sun off of me, and keep me "warm" when the sun goes down.

My only advice to you is . . . nothing new on race day. If you haven't done it in training, don't do it in the race.
